  1. Well I suppose that with a serious label like Trust in Trance they can work something out
  2. hello Novacron, here is a list of artists that many people would like to see released but aren't because of lack of a proper label (as you know it, most labels today won't release your stuff unless it's the "flavor of the month" style): Crop Circles Chi Ad California Sunshine why not contact them and see if you guys can't wok anything out? I mean personally I cannot see how such high quality artists can remain without a record deal today just because they refuse to dumb their music down to crowd-pleasing full-on...
  3. It's not JUST because it's uplifting, it's because it is music that was made to appeal to a great number of people. When artists concentrate on selling the most possible albums then you know that they will make huge compromises on creativity and just stick to the norm because the norm sells, and that's when it all goes to shit... In the same vein, if psytrance is so apreciated IMO it's NOT because it's trippy but rather because psy artists care less about trends and exploit their creativity more. Well at least they used to before all this full-on crap hit the market lol Now I am not saying that SOME artists don't manage to make great stuff in the genre, or in any genre for that matter. my personal pick: Lange feat. The Morrighan -
  4. hehe now that you mention it, add Freeman to the list as well
  5. I disagree... just look at iTunes: people pay to dload stuff to their mp3 player when they could just illegally dload the exact same mp3s without paying squat. IMO the main issue is how much you pay. Some people earn a lot of money and find 15€ for a CD quite cheap. Others simply don't have the money to get all the CDs they'd want but they'd like to pay SOMETHING to show their appreciation to the artist. IMO the main problem with the psy world today is that there is no middle-road: you either pay the full price for a CD or nothing at all.
  6. hmm I think you don't get it: it's not a question of having it on CD or on your harddrive... it's a question of having it on your harddrive or not at all! Personally I've been toying around with this idea: make a site where you have to be registered to dload psytrance torrents AND have a "make a donnation" button. The money donated would go directly to the artists concerned. I'm sure a LOT of money could be made that way. Even if people contribute, say, 5 euros it won't cost anything to press the CDs, it would be 5 euros in the artists' pocket. What do you guys think?
  7. lol yep I forgot about them other than that yes I agree that all those oldscool names involving celestial objects (Astral Projection, Total Eclipse, Pleiadians, Sirius Isness, Cosmosis, etc) seem kindof corny today, but they sounded so cool back then... funny how times change
  8. cool I'm really interested in hearing new stuff from him
  9. I said it before and I'll say it again: Asia 2001 and yeah, Psysex comes in a close second IMO Also, GREAT short-lived project but really crappy name: Crop Circles
  10. hehe I'm just splitting hairs but you know me, I like splitting hairs
  11. first of all, Parasense wasn't Parasense in its debuts, it was Paranoic Sensations Second of all the "distinctive throb and rumble" as you put it wasn't really new IMHO since X-Dream and all the other german techtrance groups were already doing it before. Parasense just thought of pitching up the speed a little, I wouldn't call that revolutionary, just evolutionary
  12. nice but nothing special IMO (judging by the sample from Saiko Sounds). Nothing made me want to jump out of my chair and dance, no climax, no killer melodies, no mind-twisting 303-sounds... if this is the new sound of goatrance then I prefer dark trance
  13. heh funny how tastes differ... personally I can't bring myself to listen to a SINGLE track from AYS without fast-forwarding. As for Entheogenic, it might be nice but they try too much to sound like Shpongle IMO so they lose many points for originality. As for me... believe it or not but I've given Celtic Cross - Hicksville another listen latley after many years of leaving it to gather dust on my shelf and it sounded AMAZING!! I couldn't believe how fresh it still was after all these years. Shwazz still sounded "deep" and brang tears to my eyes and I couldn't understand why did I stop playing this tune in the first place. It also made me wonder why noone ever thought of putting celtic elements in their tracks ever since. So IMO this album wins many points for quality but also for originality (the ONLY chill-out album to use celtic elements AFAIK) and also the fact that it never had any commercialy-oriented follow ups Other than that... I'm amazed that noone mentioned Makyo??? At one point in psy history he was about to overtake the high and mighty Shpongle in populairty. IMO his songs are much "deeper" than many psychill out there, which tends to get a bit formulaic like "insert your favorite nature-sound, mix in a little ethnic (preferably arabic) singing and there you are. Put a Terrence McKenna sample on top and you're sure to have a chart-topper". And Banco De Gaia and Angel Tears also rank high on my list but since their tracks seem to be a little hit-or miss I'm not putting them on the top spot.
  14. OMG the first release from Dimension 5 from 1991!! (their sound was quite different back then lol)
  15. hehe I actually have that EP at home I prefer East as well check this one out: Lost Entity - Anihilate from... 1990 could you believe that??
  16. ah sweet tracks like this are the main reason why I praise classic trance... keep em coming
  17. would be nice if they droped the vocals...
  18. yep, 100% agree... IMO people these days spend FAR too much time tweaking sounds instead of trying to find good melodies. For example back in the days Man With No Name just played with factory-standard synth presets but he gave us some of the nicest melodies ever IMO.
  19. well goatrance and psytrance were interchangeable terms in the mid 90s... only in the early 2000s did people start calling newer stuff "psytrance" as if to make the difference with melodic oldschool stuff. Same thing with "progressive" (check out Indoor - Progressive Trance from 1995... does that have anything in common with what is called "progressive trance" today?) and full-on (for example, Chi AD - Eye am the I was called "full-on" when it was released, again, nothing to do with today's full-on, which interstingly enough isn't that far sounding to what was called "minimal" just a few years ago if you take away the rolling bassline
  20. well it's all a matter of choice between listening quality and record life. Most DJs favor a needle with a very steep angle, like the Ortofon Concordes (named like that because they resemble the Concord's nose when it's landing): Since the needle has a steep angle it presses hard against the grooves of the record, producing thus a louder and clearer signal... HOWEVER the harder the needle will press against the record, the faster it will wear because of friction. So even though many record stores will recommend you this type of needle do NOT play a record you love and want to keep forever with them!!! if low wear is what you want, then you're better off with something like this: less funky looking but your records will apreciate it
  21. hehe yep, the hardest part is motivating myself to get in the car and go... once I get there I actually have MORE fun alone then when I'm with friends! First of all, if I'm alone, I'm a lot more open to chit-chat with strangers and other people have a higher tendency to talk to me cause they see I'm alone. You might end up meeting some very cool people that way Second of all, EVERYTIME I go to a party with friends we end up almost fighting in the morning cause some friends have had enough and want to go home and others want to stay. Needless to say that when I'm alone I don't have that problem... oh yes I should also mention that none of my friends really dig the music, if they come with me it's just for the drugs... and personally I don't feel comfortable with that.
  22. well it's all a matter or exactly what do you call "darkpsy"... for me the current wave of dark trance is simply taking the whole concept started off by X-Dream/ The Delta/ Midi Miliz/Spirallianz/ C.O.P. and various other projects revolving around the Marcus Christian Maichel and/or Arne Schaffhausen and putting a faster tempo/ bassline. Other than that, "dark psytrance" has been around since the early days of goa, although it was VERY different back then. Actually at one (very short) moment in goa history around 1996 I thought that the whole uk scene had a much meaner "hardcore vibe" to it which didn't really belong to the spirit of goatrance IMHO, tracks like Hallucinogen - Space Pussy, Tufáan - Probe, Doof - I Think We Can Go To The Moon... but of course it all has nothing to do with what we call "dark trance" today even though it was called "dark trance" back then Now if it's the kbbb kbbb bassline formula you're talking about... I've had the imense surprise of discovering that it was actually around for ages as well, for example on a long forgotten EP from 1995 Dancing to the Sounds of the Sun Vol 1 by a certain project named Special Go-Man Now if you were to go even further back (let's not forget that the whole "death-rebirth" concept of goatrance parties where dark stuff was played during the night and melodic stuff during the morning actually predates the creation of goatrance itself...) I found the label P.C.P. (Planet Core Productions) had a set of really trippy dark releases in the very early 90s. And before you tell me "hey, wasn't PCP a HARDCORE label???", I'd like to point out that the label was massivley supported by DJ Dag Lerner in it's early days (DJ Dag being one of THE first DJs ever spinning trance and the co-founder of Dance 2 Trance). Some records like this one even had "Hi to DJ Dag!" printed on them lol So it is my theory that in the early days (talking about stuff before 1994) a LOT of these records were played during night sets in trance parties. That's what I like about psytrance: whenever you think you've just coined THE "first track ever" you notice that similar stuff has been around years before, just that it didn't really break into the mainstream.
