  1. hey there! Sooo, Oliver Lieb just made a comeback (well, ok he was never really gone in the first place), anyway I was surprised by his new style, that reaked of the kind of techtrance that ruled the psy world in the early 2000s! I must admit that I didn't see that one coming... So what do you guys think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ead0EoiQ0E
  2. just discovered this one a week ago, haven't been able to stop listening to it since http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghP2UGyL_K4 and this one's one of the trance anthems of the summer, über-commercial, I agree but still I have to admit I quite like it (especially that sampled vocal-part around (2:45-3:00) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP8OVYyuC60
  3. you're right there are big parts that aren't even dubstep anymore, it ranges between instrumental hip hop and hard electro
  4. Excisions' Shambala is the first mix that got me into dubstep a while ago, thanks to you guys recomendation here, so it has a special place in my heart, I've been following it since, although more and more dissapointed by the commercial turn it has taken but still, there are some nice tracks in there and it allows to get a good feeling of the evolution of dubstep IMO anyways, Excision just put his new mix online today, I thought I'd share http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFd7MHcYW1o&feature=youtu.be so what do you people think? It's even more commercial than 2012 still some interesting stuff in there nonetheless download link [EDIT to moderators: damn, I put it in the wrong forum, if someone can move it to Other Electronica please ]
  5. ha, believe it or not, Ovnimoon is featured on Paul Oakenfold's latest commercial trance compilation... guess he's playing in the big league now
  6. hmm yeah but that would still set me back a good 300€ at least... personally I always prefer waiting a few years for the newest technology to become a bit obsolete, which allows me to have a good computer for almost nothing (running now on an AMD dual core athlon 64-bit 3800+ based PC I bought for 75€ second hand )
  7. PS stupid comment but everytime I look at the forum topics for some reason I read "Musical Taste masturbation over time?" lol
  8. EXACTLY!! You took the words right out of my mouth Once I realize that artists are more concerned with following a certain formula rather than express their creativity I usually move on to another subgenre... which also has it's own "formula" but at least I don't know it yet so I keep listening to that for a while and then move on again etc. And I also try to keep in mind that no matter how overdone and formulaic a certain sub-genre has become there will ALWAYS be a track that will totally blow your mind if you dig hard enough and those are the moments where you feel it was totally worth it a recent example in comercially over-hyped full-on would be this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxCeXfXL-FE Now as a general rule, I have to admit that with age I tend to orient myself towards (relatively) calmer tracks in psytrance, I find it difficult to stand a whole party with ONLY dark psy or twilight (which are missing the whole point on the death-rebirth ritualistic theme that are what made psytrance parties special in the first place BTW). On the other hand I find that in periods where I just want to dance myself silly to some very hard and pumping music I prefer hardcore to psy (even to ultra-fast high-tech), somehow that distorted kick just makes me want to dance more than the fast droning bassline of psytrance. BUT, whatever I do, I find that I ALWAYS end up re-listening to my oldschool classics after a while and end up thinking "damn, these tracks just WERE better!"... is it nostalgia? or was there simply more effort and creativity put into them than with more recent stuff?
  9. meh, listened to their new album... there are some really great ideas but the progressions are very dull and almost identical in every track which makes it overall sound boring one exception though is this track, I'm loving it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PODpryLc8HE
  10. so I was wondering, is anyone actually using a streaming platform for psytrance here? and if yes, which one? I have to admit that the idea of having ALL the psytrance you want (and legally) in one place for less than the price of a CD per month is pretty appealing I've been trying out Spotify lately, the tracklist is pretty impressive, most of the new stuff is there and even some lost gems like Hyperion - Sun Flower! I must say I'm impressed
  11. well, I wouldn't mind passing myself for a chimp if it made me 10.000 bucks lol
  12. well I don't have those and it's still fast lol Plus I prefer doing an OS upgrade rather than throwing my PC to the bin and buying a new one every 2 years
  13. on the plus side it is MUCH faster than any other Windows I've had, and it seems VERY stable (something very rare for a Windows OS )
  14. Well goddamn, here I am, working hard for my money and a CHIMPANZEE gets 10.000 dollars for a painting??? Although I have to admit it is a cool painting What do you guys think? full article

    ?604?

ha yes, there was a LOT of elitism in the scene back then, I'm glad at least that part is over now
  16. NOW HOW THE HELL DO YOU DO THAT??? ok, although I must admit that once you get the hang of it, it's not that unpleasant, I think one should keep in mind more the tablet-way of manipulating programs rather than the classic desktop way, if you think of it as some sort of Android for desktops it starts making a lot more sense (although you'd wonder WHY would you need Android on a desktop, it's kindof like going the other way around in progress lol). Ah well, I guess I'll give it a few more weeks to really get used to it
  17. So after some problems with my photoshop I decided it might be better to go for an OS upgrade and... W...T...F??? there isn't even a Start button anymore? I spent half an hour just trying to figure out how to shut down the darn thing!! So, anyone else tried it out? Are you feeling frustrated too or am I just getting too old? lol

hehe yeah it used to be a "code" for goa parties printed on flyers, that way only people who "knew" would know what it was about, although today with internet and all it is very rarely used... BOM SHANKAR!
  19. what's especially funny is that the cover says "40 Goa Anthems" yet I've never heard of a single one of those artists but to come back to the original topic, I guess most suomi would fit in here, here's one of my favorites (funny first part but also a pretty good melody around 4:00 ): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3WFSb3bf8I
  20. yeah, no problem with lounge music it's the GENERIC part that I don't like... it's like it could've been made by any musician, there is nothing to jump out and say "hey, I recognize Boris Blenn's sound here"
  21. meh, 100% pure generic lounge music, kindof the same way his new EU stuff is 100% pure generic full-on... he totally lost it IMO
