again I say it's all a matter of offer and demand... personally I'd rather spend 1000 euros for that backdrop rather than spend a few hundred thousand dollars on this:
-
that's why I said . Same goes for an old album: some people will say "Do you REALLY expect someone to pay MORE for a 15 year-old record than what it worth when it was released?" and yet others will say "OMG!!! Only 50 euros for this priceless rarity, it's a bargain!!". It's all a question of offer and demand. As long as you have people ready to put the money on the table you'll have high prices. And believe me, nothing is this world has more variable pricing than artwork.

yes but Britney Spears sounds good everywhere because that's the definition of pop (popular) music... music made to appeal to everyone. So instead of getting something that sounds great in some circumstances and not others like some psy, you get stuff that sounds moderatley good everywhere. Name me just ONE dark psy track that sounds good on a small sound system and I will shut up same as I said above: some stuff is made to sound great on certain systems, other is made to sound moderatley good everywhere... I doubt you tried listening to those CDs on a multi-thousand watt system in open air
-
dude, did it ever hit you that this kindof music is played in VERY different circumstances, ranging from your average Joe jogging to psytrance on his iPod to artists playing this stuff live on a sound system pouring a few thousand watts in open air parties? I mean how could you make music sounding good in EVERY circumstance? Especially when there's a LOT happening in a track like oldschool. That's just the way it is: some stuff sounds great on a home stereo, other stuff just needs to be played on a HUGE sound system to get it right (like basically ALL dark trance releases...), yet other stuff was made specifically for open-air events (forest trance), etc... IMO it's is prefectly normal to have to fiddle around with the EQs to get your sound right. PS my pick of choice is Aphex Twin - Ventolin... if anyone manages to listen to the whole track on ANY sound system full-volume without loss of hearing, please tell me
-
yep I don't understand either why they've just stoped making music. I mean they were so over-productive in the first half of the decade, basically creating and promoting a new music style all by themselves, releasing it on home-burned CD-Rs cause no music label wanted to release it. And now, nothing Guess it's ultimate proof that you can only fight the mainstream for a while and then you go under.

so I take it none of you know what this device is used for

well post videos of your favorite EPs then I'm gonna join the club too as soon as I have some spare time to do so. Come on people, it is up to us to keep this culture alive! PS for the record, in 1990 I was 10 years-old, thought the best track ever was Alice Cooper - Poison and was wearing Iron Maiden t-shirts (not that I knew who Iron Maiden was but the writing looked cool)... I've come a long way since then lol -
yep same here... I liked a few of their stuff when released although I never was part of the "if this is made by Simon GODford then I MUST like it!!!" movement like so many where a few years ago. But now I must say that I can't bring myself to listen to one whole track without feeling the need to fast-forward! It's just too incoherent IMO: sometimes it's nice, other times it's just too random. Would be cool if there were some remixes taking only the nice parts though

hah what I find crazy is that it's called 1990 mix... I mean it already sounds revolutionary for 1990 and aparently then it was already out for years cause they call it 1990 mix. Crazy lol oh and thanks for the link Basilisk. Sorry, I've been off this site for more than a year so I admit that I've kindof lost touch with psynews life -
yep it's all a question of the artwork being an original or a print. Same goes for any artwork: a print of a famous Van Gogh painting can easily be found for 20€ but an original can be worth millions OK this ain't no Van Gogh but it might still be worth 500€ or more if it's an original I guess it all depends on how much someone who likes it is ready to spend.

hmm well I USED to prefer morning over dark... but latley morning has become so incredibly cheezy that I'm happy that we have a dark trance scene which still has some integrity left. That said, if I'm lucky enough to hear some morning trance that isn't cheese I'm a happy man
-
man I've latley done some random strolling thorugh youtube and was AMAZED by the quantity of "videos" of old trance EPs going around. I used to think that I had a good knowledge of early trance releases (mosltly early Eye Q and Harthouse), only to find out now that there were HEAPS of even better and earlier stuff going around except no one ever knew about it (except for people into the scene back then). check this one out for example: Konzept - Hypnautic Beats, goatrance from 1990 and noone mentions it!!! anyway, here are my favorite channels till now: skower73 iuhaha any more to recommend? PS I'd like to point out that these are links to EPs that have been out of print for more than a decade, I don't think that the usual "dloading music is bad mmmkay?" argument is viable here cause it's simply impossible to walk into a store and buy this... and even if would, how could you know what you're buying because these are virtually unkown names.
-
ah yes it's crazy how such great ahead of it's time music can go unnoticed while other people remember some crappy acid house from the same time... check out Konzept - Hypnautic Beats... goatrance from 1990!! thank God for youtube, keeping underground memories alive
-
yep it's probably an improperly named mp3...
-
come on people we're in MAY now!!!
-
don't know but it's one cool track I suppose it's some B-side of a new beat EP cause that's basically what most early "goatrance" tracks were.
-
No, I confirm that the track playing at min 18 and 19 is Neptune - Beyond Gravity... the track before is Yahel, maybe you mean that one instead?
-
don't know about that one but having listened to quite a few very early Overlords and Ian Ion releases I can tell you it's very likely to be crap. Most of the time they were making EBM and/or eurodance, and only very rarely strolled into the realms of trance. I also spent a LOT of time tracking down old stuff by them only to be VERY dissapointed when finally getting my hands on it. PS same goes for early KLF BTW
-
yep I agree, it doesn't sound like a released track (no bassline and kicks...) would be cool if the artist finished the track and released it though
-
links don't work
-
so I've randomly stolled through youtube and found this : can anyone please tell me what's the name of the track being played between 6:40 and 7:20 please?
-
well yes I guess the hardest part would be where to draw the line between "trance" and "something elese that inspired trance". Indeed acts like Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre have undoubtley influenced trance (and techno in general) but if you go down that path then the origins of trance could go as far as tribal chanting/ druming which would basically be the most primal form of music created by man... So for me personally, IMHO, for trance to be trance it has to have: 1. almost exclusive use of electronic music instruments 2. a 4/4 kick 3. produce a trance-like hypnotic dreamy state BUT also have "feelings" (ranging from happy to sad) But of course eveyone is welcome to give their definition of trance woah man it'll take me months/years to track down everything you've listed
-
ah thanks to everyone for their inputs... some tracks I do not know, I should check them out well legend has it that the term "trance" as an electronic music genre was officially defined in 1992... although a quick stroll through discogs will show you referals to "trance" already in the late 80s (KLF, Dance 2 Trance,...) that's because it became "epic"
-
loool when I see the crap that's being released latley I wonder if even big names put any effort these days
-
ok if you were to make a collection of tunes to explain the origins of trance, what would be your pics? I mean, ranging from "trance" that already existed in the late 80s before the actual name was given (even before? ie Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze... personally I considered that "trance" should at least have a 4/4 kick but it's up to you to define the exact startof point;) ), and building up until 94-95 which would be more or less the time when we had all these genre-splits and the death of "trance" per se (cause after that everything was "hard", "epic", "goa", etc...). The best would be to name some milestone classics that everyone knows, but also less known tracks that still sound great today And of course, a trip from the origins would imply naming oldest tracks first and moving on to newer stuff but if you find that 2 tracks split by a few years difference sound great together then feel free to put them together Also keep in mind that I refer to trance in BROAD terms, not just the sub-sub genre for psytrance... After a careful selection that lasted weeks and weeks I've narrowed down my list to these (ok I admit my choice is slightly biased towards drifting dreamy stuff cause for me, that's the best that trance had to offer back then). A Split Second - Flesh (1986) Amnesia - Ibiza (1988) KLF - 3AM Eternal (Pure Trance Original) (1989) Neon - Voices (Remix) (1989) Dance 2 Trance - We Came in Peace (1990) Age of Love - Age of Love (1990) Tainted Two - This is Not a Dream Song (Instrumental) (1990) Sven Väth - Accident in Paradise (1992) Jam& Spoon - Stella (1992) Zyon - No Fate (Back From Goa Mix) (1992) Dance 2 Trance - Hello San Francisco (1992) SFX - We Are Controlling Transmission (1993) Aquila - AM (1993) Humate - Love Stimulation (Lovemix) (1993) Genetic - Transmission (1993) Mental Planet - Anihilating Rythm (1993) Virtual Symmetry - See You (1993) Afrotrance - Spiritual Energy (1994) Der Dritte Raum - Stella (1994) Union Jack - Cactus (1994) Indoor - The Key (1994) MWNN - Teleport (1994) Arcadia - Interstellar (Moebius Mix) (1994) Sven Väth - Harlequin The Beauty and The Beast (1994) Jam & Spoon - Odyssey to Anyoona (1994) Azid Force - Magic Mushroom (1994) Cybordelics - Peter Pan (1994) Synthetic Progress - Acid Future (1994) Razor's Edge - Exquisite Sin (Exquisite Dream Mix) (1995) Banco de Gaia - Last Train to Lhassa (1995) Electric Universe - One Love (1995) Pleiadians - Boarding Pass To Balagan (1995) so what would your pics be?
