  1. If I'm not mistaken, I think it had something to do with the Samothraki dance festival...?
  2. OK ok I know this is just another GMS side-project and that GMS are the incarnation of EVIL on Earth but I actually quite liked some Zorba tunes... does anyone know if another album is in the making?
  3. 1. Are you elovetric? (Numanoid vs The Hypist rmx) 2. Boxrocker (Minoru rmx) 3. Pipes of peace (Joujoukas vss rmx) 4. Are you elovetric? (Thomas P.Heckmann rmx) 5. Punx play vidio game (Nothern Lite harder rmx) 6. New asian (Justin Robertson rmx) 7. Relax (feat. Native Starecase rmx) 8. Geo ash (PIiliavin and Zimbardo rmx) So Joujouka is back this time with a remix album... and going further and further away from anything that sounds even remotley like psytrance. Well, at least by now the "genre classifcation catalogue" seems to have caught up, that's why for example you can buy this CD on Psyshop yet Joujouka are described there as "a new wave electro band"... But let's not forget that other pioneers in goatrance gradually moved away from psy and are now producing stuff that have nothing to do with the genre (IM, X Dream,...) so if anything, Joujouka should be praised for being the first former-pioneers to move to something completley different So how does all this sound? The remixes of Are You Elovetric? and Boxrocker simply sound like rock music, you can almost close your eyes and imagine these guys playing in an MTV video! The whole sound is VERY much like Lords of Acid's later work. Personally I've always found the whole voice thing over electronic music ridiculous... Pipes of Peace sounds more like some crossover between industrial and techno, it actually works out pretty well in the end. One of the better tracks here. Now comes yet another remix of Are You Elovetric? but this time by acid techno god Thomas P Heckman. So you could've expected some screaming 303s in there at least, no? Well, no... it's just the same loop played over and over again for more than 6 minutes... Well, you do get an interesting melody developing in the background starting from 5:30 but it's just too little, to late... Punx Play Video Game comes again with the industrial rockish side... Again we're into MTV video realm here... Then a remix from New Asians . Hmm actually this one sounds pretty decent, there are some tribal techno influences. We're still far away from classical territory here but again, this is one of the better tracks on this album. Then comes the re-remix of the famous tune from Frankie Goes to Hollywood . Just why do these people keep tampering with that classic is beyond me... BUT this time around the result is actually pretty good and this is one of the only track here that comes close to (technoish) trance... Finally, a downtempo track with the remix of Geo ash . Well interestingly enough this one reminds me of some VERY old trance, things like Psychik Warriors Ov Gaia , Techno Grooves - Aboriginal and such: a tribal feeling and VERY repetitive sounds. So in some sorts this one comes clostest to the original definition of trance the way it once used to be. Conclusion Well I guess that by now we're all used to the idea of Tsuyoshi Suzuki having moved away from psytrance so it doesn't really surprise me that this album sounds like industrial rock on one side and techno on the other (with the exception of the last track). I won't rate this cause it ain't psytrance, I'll just say that if you want to broaden your CD collection with new "non-psy sounds" you might just like this. And the last track deserves special mentioning IMO since it's the ONLY modern track that sounds very much like some very old tribal trance (I'm talking about "pre-goa" stuff). But is ONE track worth buying the whole CD? I'll let you decide...
  4. hehe I never thought of it that way but now that you mention it...
  5. oh yeah and let's not forget THE mother of all psytrance songs with didges: Prana - Scarab
  6. hehe yeah I've always wanted to participate in a Dige seminar but never got off my lazy ass to actually do it... but I will someday
  7. hehe actually I DID ask mars why and all he could tell me was that Jaia USED to make oldschool... yeah and? if he don't play it anymore what's the use? anyway, I was too happy to see him to start an argument.
  8. don't really get your post... of course an artist can change his style like Jaia... but that doesn't mean that Jaia ALWAYS has made progressive, just that his latest album is. Furthermore I was to the party in question and found that Jaia SUCKED!!! Actually I don't really understand why the hell did they put him as the main act at what was supposed to be a Suntrip label party since he didn't represent the Suntrip sound at ALL!! Luckily Blue Planet Corp played afterards some nice classic trance... and then the cops stopped the party oh and I do... that's why I listen to dark psy
  9. I don't get it... just because they have ONE track on some comp means that they make progressive by default...? Also, look at the tracklist: I'd seriously doubt anyone would call Doof, Zorba, Blue Planet Corporation or Mumbo Jumbo progressive either... Oh yeah and I know that progressive is another one of those trendy names that don't really mean anything (for example you have progressive goatrance as in Indoor Project which has NOTHING to do with what we call progressive today), still, tribal morning goa is tribal morning goa and progressive is progressive
  10. I'm saying that if Feuerhake's older releases were progressive then my dad's name is Michael Jackson... Feuerhake's older style was tribal morning trance, it has NOTHING to do with progressive.
  11. what's next? you're gonna tell me that Astral Projection was always proggy as well? lol
  12. uhhh well it is odd cause I REALLY liked Sky Input when it came out. However I don't quite like this one. I guess most people said it here already: melodies sound too random, aren't as memorable as the ones on Sky Input and there's just too much of the same (except for the last downtempo track): the synth presets are the same, the melodies are similar, and basically all the bag of FX tricks are about the same for EACH track (and mind you all these elements were already virtually the same for the Sky Input album...). Hell, this guy even manages to make the Crop Circles track sound like just another Filteria track on the album! It's not a BAD album, indeed it makes your heartbeat rise when you're "in that mood", but somehow it leaves a bad aftertaste in your mouth IMO. Who knows, maybe I'm just getting too old for this? lol anyway, sorry Filteria but this one gets a 7/10 from me...
  13. ah just wait until the hoard of Derango worshipers show up
  14. HAHAHA I second that other than that I'd definatley like an interview with Psykovsky
  15. ... yet he complains about Skazi...
  16. funny, I always thought that the music we were listening to was goatrance...? What did you expect? Elvis Presley?
  17. sure, that's what THEY want you to believe
  18. now you've done it Charlie... if I were you I'd sleep at my friend's house tonight lol
  19. oh I get it... * tells FP to stop scratching his balls
  20. PS does the comp VA - Forest on Doof Records have anything to do with the "common" definition of "forest trance"...?
  21. well that's exactly it... I already comented on that in my Derango review: if the "forest trance" tracks had samples of owls hooting or troll chants then yes, I'd understand where it all comes from but simply having "wierd organic noises"... ?
