well from what I know the "members" of Etnica is I-Max and whoever he choses to collaborate with...
-
Ike and Tina Turner
-
hehe that's true too
-
heyyy I just randomly stumbled on this: Crazy Malamute - The Collection released in 1999 but tracks sound like they were made in the early 90s. They have that nice slow and dreamy feeling it's great. Well one member of Crazy Malamute is DJ Dag so I guess he knows how to make proper trance I definatley recommend this to all fans of "pre-goa" trance
-
well I loved CS - Sinking Sand too when it first came out but my main issue with it was that there wasn't anything new in there, CS were still doing the same thing that they have for 10 years. It's good but some progress never hurt anyone

and who the hell is Lucas???

I know what you're saying man, it seems like outright impossible to find decent melodies in psytrance these days... the ONLY artist that comes close is Khetzal (check out the tune starting around 5:00 in Listening Winds or the one starting at 4:30 in Anamatha) now THAT's how psytrance SHOULD sound like IMO... HOWEVER I have found new hope in what I call "morning dark psy": basically a crossblend between uplifting morning melodies and the ultra-fast hard dark trance bassline. Sure, it's not as deep as Khetzal but there are some nice atmospheres, best example of this IMO being the melody starting 4:00 in Psyfactor - Frear Square. I sure hope more artists will give us stuff like this in the near future also, this in a completley different league, but if you liked the little melodies in Atmos - Headcleaner a few years ago, chances are high you'll like Shiva Chandra - Midi Kill (Medical Remix) as well. No oldschool here but I found myself smiling and nodding my head like silly
-
hmm you have a point there OM I bet Derango is just a new WMD for terrorists: First step: make the underground youth listen to Derango Second step: ? Third step: World domination conclusion: nuke the Scandinavian forests before it's too late
-
no no Spacemunchi played before... according to the flyer it should have been Silicon Sound...? But I doubt it cause it didn't sound like full-on at all (unless the dude radically changed his sound latley). The tracks played sounded a LOT like "classical trance": you know, stuff around 120 BPMs with a lot of beautiful atmospheres and tribal elements. I really wonder who it was?
-
well it kindof went back and forth between Simon Posford, Astral Projection, Infected Mushroom and Pleidadians/ Etnica. But out of all these acts, it seemed that Simon P still retained most momentum... untill now that is...
-
I bought 2500 Euros (!!) worth of vinyls and CDs from him. The deal went flawlessly. Of course it'll take some time to individually check each of the 550 records but they all seem in good condition. Definatley a trustworthy person
-
hey Anoebis I was wondering, who was the DJ who played at the Suntrip party after Jaia? Cause he also played some REALLY nice stuff that reminded me of old trance tracks. Was it new material or old?
-
So I remember a time on Psynews where there was no competition: Simon Posford was GOD and there were people on this forum who were so fanatical about it that they were prepared to personally take a plane to anywhere where someone didn't think so and kick their asses... HOWEVER I see things changing these days. So who is the new king?
-
that would be Dragonfly
-
look what he said about Derango was RESPECTFUL!!! It's not like he said "Fuck you Derango lovers, I want Simon P!!!", he simply said that if the topic was about Derango then he would've probably got more replies and I REALLY don't see what big moral line did he cross when making that remark... definatley nothing that would justify all the comments that came afterwards. No really, what world are we living in if someone gets insulted because he doesn't like Derango and mods step in to feed the flames rather than poor water over them... how this forum has changed in only a few months
-
I didn't hear him nag about this forum in this topic... he just asked a simple question and he gets shit from everyone... WTF??? OK, so maybe oldschool is dead to most of you but the PLUR spirit should still be there, no matter what music is trendy to listen to these days...
-
yep, that's exactly what I was thinking
-
HEY NOW!!! the poor guy asks a simple question on Hallucinogen and he gets insulted by everyone... Just why is everyone ganging up against poor radi??? If I was still a moderator here I wouldn't tolerate that... shame on you people!!! Ever heard of a thing called PLUR??? PS I thought that what made psynews a special place was exactly the fact that the majority still liked oldschool and didn't care much for trendy full-on...?
-
for what it's worth I found Derango's appeal died off fast on me... Ghreg on Earth and Psykovsky are definatley better
-
hehe you have a point there... and how times change cause if this topic was posted a few years ago in a few minutes you would've had like 20 "OMG!! OMG!! Simon P is GOD!!!" posts. There was a time when I was thinking that if Simon released a track where all he'd do is fart into a mic for 5 minutes then you'd have people saying "OMG OMG how original!!! Simon P has done it again!!" Guess he's definatley not in anymore these days
-
I think the first "Hallucinogen" track was Gumbo - The Quickening released in 1993... nothing special IMO but interesting to hear where it all started
-
LOL but I don't think it's "official" merchandise... Just anyone can print a picture on a white mug so IMO it's just someone trying to make some money... as long as there's no psy remix of fucken Britney Spears, oh wait Toxic have already done that
-
ah cause there's a difference between progressive and minimal...? I thought it was the same thing, just that it was trendy to call it minimal around 2000 and now it's trendier to call it progressive... just like "the 3D Vision sound" later was called "full-on"
-
What new directions do you think the psytrance genre will take in the future?
-
nice album!!! And this coming from someone who HATES progressive is a big compliment Indeed, some tracks lack direction but in others you have these VERY catchy melodies which just make you smile and nod your head to the rythm. Not to mention a pretty heavy use of 303s which isn't very common these days. Still, the 303s are used in a "minimal" way but I'm always a sucker for acid lines. faves: 1, 5, 7 rating 8/10 FINALLY a progressive album I enjoy
