cool man, count me in too my 2006 reviews: Terminator - Spirits of the Plants Fungus Funk - F.People V/A - Psytisfaction 4 V/A - Solstice Black Compilation #1 Naked Tourist - Mad Different Methods V/A - Violent Reaction (and a shitload more written in 06 for 05 releases, but I guess this list is enough ) *keeps fingers crossed* PS Nice gesture faze, how come noone thought of this before???
-
still giving it a few listens before posting a full review in the apropriate section... but my general feeling is this: some parts of tracks are VERY good (ex. last part of track 1 with the 303 and the tribal chanting WOW tribal full-on, seems such a simple idea yet noone thought of it before), but some parts are just mediocre full-on. It's really hard for me to decide if I like it or not, that's why I'm not giving it a full review yet oh yeah and also FORGET everything you knew about MFG, this has NOTHING to do with their older style (well, except a few trademark synth presets here and there)
-
well I know that he made a lot of reviews BEFORE but haven't seen much latley anyway, don't mean any disrespect or anything
-
funny because you always say that you make a lot of reviews yet I very rarely see actual reviews by you when I read the reviews section... maybe some links to actual reviews by you might help me shut up? Look man, I don't have anything against you, it's just that every once in a while you post a topic arguing about how the reviews should be and it kindof pisses me off cause I don't see YOU contributing that much to reviewing anyway (apart from the mentioned topics where you bitch about them...)
-
Why not make your own Goddamn reviews and stop bitchin all the time...??? It's not the first time you complain about reviews on this site... PS actually I find all those "in-depth" reviews aren't really usefull, that's why I'm making much shorter reviews myself latley
-
just bought 6 CDs from him. Excellent service and quality

I don't understand how so many people were crazy about Psykovsky before this album release yet there are almost no positive comments on it...
-
hmmm well don't get me wrong, I liked their (his?) album a lot BUT I found that there are shitloads of better acts out there ie. Ghreg on Earth, Psykovsky, Droidlock,... and to everyone using the new "forst trance" buzzword... either someone explains me the distinctive elements allowing to recognize "forest trance" or STFU!!!

psychedelic techno comes to mind when I listen to most dark psy released these days
-
so aparently Toi Doi discovered the dark trance scene and decided to have a go at it as well... It's nice and stays out of "normal" dark trance clichés. But still, I can't say it's a classic or anything, just a nice album to have in your dark trance collection. Of course we are light years away from Technologic but then again this is night trance whereas Technologic was morning so I guess this explains that 7/10
-
man this is the kind of argument that makes me go mad... if you have a choice between some dull track with a perfect 4/4 kick and a mad track with contantly changing basslines and measures missing kicks to add to the crazyness, would you really hesitate which one to chose?
-
I didn't say it was 100% progressive, I said it was a crossblend between progressive and dark psy

1. Doors 2. Bom bole 3. Transformer 4. Thru love 5. Tripping point 6. Shamanistic rap 7. Strong blast 8. Psychedelic awakening 9. Fluffy on 10. Mega mix bonus track In case you didn't know this already, Terminator is former half of Paransense and has recently tragically died in an accident at the beginning of this year (RIP). So this is his last album... and it is an interesting album, I'd call it "dark psygressive" since it somehow manages to blend the trademark fast bassline with the progressive psy vibe: no actual melodies, more like sound patterns evolving one from the other and a general "flatness" all through the track (in other words little or no climaxes). Although I must admit the overall vibe is pretty original... it isn't really my cup of tea... And I must admit that judging by the track names and all I was kindof expecing some oldschoolish vibe going on, which isn't at all the case I have massive respect for Zolod's former work as Parasense and I deeply regret that the dark psy scene has lost one of its pioneers... but this album isn't really my thing. Although I suppose that progressive psy lovers will love it [EDIT 2008: OK I don't know if it's the drugs talking or something, but coming back from a psy party I decided to give this another listen. I mean, like all the way home I was thinking "man I MUST give this thing another try". And, somehow, I got the feeling that the artist was on to something big. I don't know how to explain, like somehow he managed to catch waves of energy and put it though music... Well I guess the main idea is that this album can be REALLY apperciated when high... but only when high. my 2 cents ]

1. Propaganda rmx 2. Beloochi rmx 3. Wishful sinful 4. Indigo child 5. Compos mentis 6. Erlkoenig 7. Kuklusklan rmx 8. Pump the spam This album is DA BOMB!!! Just when I thought I heard every dark trance album worth of a listen released in 2005 I stumbled on this one... and it totally took my by surprise!!! Although I should probably mention that I've never heard a single track by Psykovsky before so I can't really compare the remixes on this album with the originals. The album starts "slowly" with Propaganda Rmx and already you can heard that this album will be quite a stormer... A darkish and mechanical atmosphere is hovering all around you through the track which only only starts to fully unleash its power around minute 10:00... and then we go on to track no. 2 Beloochi Rmx . Again, it starts a little slowly... for about 40 seconds and then the killer bassline hits you in the face like a bullet train! Along with the sound of a dog barking and some distorted astronaut voices... and then another killer melody around 1:55 and then the track just builds up and up. First time I heard this track my heartbeat rose and I could sit down! Just one more word about the bassline: this is the FASTEST droning bassline I have ever heard in a dark trance track. I don't think it's physically possible to make that droning sound any faster than this. Of course you need a good 200W system at minimum to fully enjoy it then comes Wishful Sinful which starts darkish with some samples from Master Yoda himself The darkside clouds everything... Impossible to see the future is... but then turns into morning trance with a well-known tune (although I forget exactly which one... I think it's the one from the classic russian game Tetris?) The end result is pretty nice and most of all, he manages to use a sample from a well-known tune WITHOUT sounding cheezy And then comes THE best track on this album IMO Indigo Child . First a "calm" bassline making you think that we're on for a stroll in the park... then the bassline becomes louder and louder and then BOOM at 0:40 it just hits you. Then some wierd electronic bleeps come in a little afterwards, makes me think of R2D2 singing lol. Seriously though, the first thing that hit me when I listened to this track is that if Pleidadians made IFO in a period when dark trance was the norm, the tracks would probably have sounded like this. Don't expect to find IFO style melodies or anything, I'm just saying that this track gives me the same "hurricane of sound thats ready to make your roof explode" feeling as IFO. It makes you wanna pull your hair out of your head with your bear hands, that's how intense and crazy this feels. Of course, don't expect much if you don't have a powerful system turned to the max... Corpus Mentis starts a little dull but again it builds up around 4:50 with an oldschoolish melody... don't expect much oldschool though, but again the way this dude manages buildups is simply insane. And the way the climax sometimes misses a beat (like in 5:35), it just ads to the madness Erlkoeing (WTF is that for a track name??) is one of the weaker tracks here IMO. BUT it has one surprise up its sleeve: around 2:50 I heard what seems to be a little melody in the background... then when I paid more attention I realized it was a sample from a 90s pop song Chris Isaac - Wicked Game (you know, the track that got you all horny when a teen cause the video featured Helena Christiansen half naked ). This must be the most intelligent use of a sample EVER!!! hehe hope he won't get in trouble copyright stuff Then we move into more morning territory with Kuklusklan Rmx again, the buildup starts around 4:30 and pushes up and up, making you go totally insane The album closer Pump the Spam is pretty weak in comparison with the rest here... Conclusion WOAH man this one's a KILLER!!! 6 out of 8 tracks are total stormers!!! It's been a while since I haven't been so crazy about a release. I've been listening to this one CONSTANTLY (at LEAST 15 times a day) for a week and it just gets better and better!!! AND, unlike most dark trance releases, every track here has it's own identity, it's not just interchangeable stuff, they're all mad tracks, but each is mad in it's own way. Unless I have any more surprises I proclaim this to be THE best dark psy release of 2005 10/10 faves: 1 (!!), 2 (!!!), 3, 4 (!!!), 5 (!!), 7 (!!!)

man you try to push this album so much one would think you're getting paid a comission for each album sold

he already sold them

1. DNA - No Good (Start The Dance) 2. SIGMA VS. TRANSMISSION - Smalltown Boy 3. DYNAMIC - 24 Hours (Guitar Version) 4. ORBITAL VIBES - Release Yourself 5. DNA - Stereo Flip 6. GATAKA VS. PERPLEX - Gataplex 7. TECHTONIC VS. E-JEKT - Mr. Cuts 8. PERPLEX - Cyber Girl 9. HYPERSONIC - Gothic So I realized latley that I've lost touch with full-on releases and decided to give this comp a try to see if the genre changed latley... well it didn't lol First off, this is full of remixes!! The first track is, as its name suggests, a remix of the classic from Prodigy . Like most remixes, it gives mixed results, although I must admit it's one of the better psy remixes of Prodigy's tracks I've heard. Then comes track 2 which, as its name suggests again, is a remix of the classic from Bronski Beat ... this one I don't like at all (probably because I already found the original annoying as hell lol) Then, comes track 3 which, as its name wouldn't suggest, is a remix of California Sunshine - Jajo ... the original was one of my all-time favorite tracks so I'm kindof dissapointed of the result here. I just don't like it when n00bs tamper with classic material... Then comes track 4, which, again, as its name wouldn't suggest, is a remix of Robert Miles - Children ... actually I find this one of the better tracks on this comp, nothing exceptional but pretty nice on the dancefloor IMO Then come some tracks that (finally...) are not remixes of some older stuff (or at least I don't think so). But they're all rather mediocre. ESPECIALLY the last track Hypersonic - Gothic which has a fukken annoying sample. Man this one really gets on my nerves! BUT there is one absolute killer on this comp: Techtonic Vs E-Jekt - Mr Cuts . Basically this is the only track that makes buying this comp worthwhile, I love it! If only all full-on was this interesting I'd be a happy man Conclusion so on one hand you have rather mediocre remixes of passed glories, on the other you have rather mediocre attempts to do original tracks... Yes, full-on (and Phonokol for that matter...) still haven't changed their formula in spite of 3 years of use and abuse... I'd definatley not recomend this comp if it wasn't for track 7... 5/10
-
funny, Etnica never stricked me as being full-on... I'd say that techtrance with some melodies is a more accurate description... and I remeber that the track Photonic was supposed to be a new Pleiadians track and I must say I liked it a LOT. Pretty intelligent and trippy stuff, although not IFO style, true. But if you want IFO style, you always have Filteria
-
this is one oddball album, I'll give you that... it's wierd, but not in the wierd-finnish psytrance way, it's just different. As others said, you can recognize some old trance elements here, although IMO there aren't much oldschool goa influences, more like old pre-94 german trance influences (mostly stuff released on Eye Q and Platipus). Although I can't really say if I like this album, there are certainly a lot of original ideas in it, but the overall result is kindof lacking consitency IMO and sounds a little too "goofy" for my tastes. And the bassline melody kicking in at 4:00 in Metalic Mista which is a blatant ripoff from Danii Minogue - Who do you love now WTF IS THAT???? Still, I applaud their overall ingenuity 7,5/10 Not an album I'd recommend warm heartedly but if you're tired of having your psytrance come in just 3 flavors (dark psy, full-on and progressive) then this is definatley one for you [EDIT: OK, after some more thorough listening I've realized that this album actually grows on you... Whereas at first the tracks seem just a bunch of incoherent ideas thrown in there together, after a (long) while it all starts making sense Current grade: 8,5/10 and rising Also I think it might help if I mentioned that this album is definatley one for home-listening and not for the dancefloor... ]

hey where did the original review of this album go??? I'm sure there were a LOT more reviews than just 1??? Problems with the database? ah well, anyway: Droidlock comes with their second full album. The first one I found quite forgettable but this time around there's a complete change in style: basically oldschool melodies with a dark psy bassline!!! It is a DREAM to listen to!!! I heard some complain that the tracks don't have enough layers but then again, darkish music works best when it's kindof monotonous so for me it does the trick just perfectly in the dark tracks (first half of the album). BUT the problem is that on the second half of the album Droidlock tries out the same forula but with uplifting melodies instead of dark. And there the result is a lot less apealing. Some melodies (ie. the one in Silly Rabbit ) are just plain stupid... Too bad cause they bring down the quality of the whole album. 7/10 (or more like 10/10 for the first 6 tracks and 5/10 for the rest...) anyway I'd definatley recomend this album to oldschoolers as well as to those finding that the dark psy genre is lacking innovation latley
-
ah Penta is at it again and better than ever IMO. Funny,, some people consider this as kindof a letdown after his first album, personally I find this release MUCH more consitent than the first. Best track here is Inverter IMO, man those melodies just sneak in behind your back around 5:30 and then slowly build up more and more until your heart starts pumping like crazy. Eater of Worlds is my second pick. And of course the other tracks are good as well... BUT I still like Gregg on Earth's Sigilweaver better Not saying this isn't good though, just that in 05 there have been soooo many quality releases in this genre that it's really hard to make up your mind on which is better than which. So I rate this a 8,5/10...

ah and to think I was about to miss out on this one completley... Personally I wasn't much impressed with GOE's former releases so I wasn't very keen on listening to a whole album by him. But then some people on this forum (including Ghreg himself lol) persuaded me to give it a try and I'm glad I did! Like Nightmare Trancer said, this finally puts back the dark atmospheres into dark psy. And track no. 8 oh man, it just hits you like a bullet train: you just have this VERY fast bassline (faster than the "usual" fast dark psy bassline) and layers and layers thrown in your face all throughout the track. It's simply incredible!!! also big thumbs up for the last track: uplifting melodies (yet not commercial...) on a dark trance bassline is clearly the way to go for monring trance IMO Bottom line: if you are to buy but one dark psy album released in 05 then this is it. The best. Period. [EDIT: actually since I've written this review I've come across Psykovsky's debut album and that one sounded even better than this so I hand over the dark trance crown to Psykovsky ... but second-best of 2005 isn't that bad either ] 8,5/10 (I'm giving it "only" a 8,5/10 because all tracks sound almost the same, except for track 9. Sure this is dark psy but a little variation never hurt anyone, no? )
-
well I was gonna say that Psyfactor is among the rare dark psy producers these days who still put dark atmospheres in their tracks... but then I listened to Ghregg on Earth - Sigilweaver and that one seemed WAY better... Not saying this isn't good though, just that if you were to buy only one dark psy album then I'd definatley pick Sigilweaver over this one. Although this has it's merit as well, especially by introducing us to a new sub-sub genre I call "monring dark psy" with the last 2 tracks: basically melodic trance with the dark psy trademark fast droning bassline. Fear Square is one of my top tunes of 05!!! It's so beautiful I actually had tears in my eyes the first time I listened to it Now if Psyfactor made a whole album like that I'd be in heaven 8/10 PS for the cover: don't people realize that Psyfactor was just taking the piss out of the whole dark psy concept? I like the cheezy cover, it makes me smile every time I look at it

Koxbox appearing on the next Chemical Crew V.A.
Lemmiwinks replied to pr0fane's topic in General Psytrance
hehe no, actually some were infected with the progressive one... at least full on isn't boring and flat -
nice comp! First of all, it took me a few minutes staring at the cover to see just where did people see a "techno om"... lol in the end I saw it, pretty neat stuff and IMO it illustrates the spirit of this comp nicely since this is basically techno released under a psy label. People might say that this is wrong, but IMO it's a great idea to get those elistst psyheads to listen to some different music for a change. You see the thing is that some people in this scene are soo damn elitist that they never bother buying anything that isn't released by a psy label... so when someone like XDream starts releasing Detroit techno on a psy label, they all applaud their "innovative sound"... without knowing that other techno artists have been making better stuff years ago... So for me, introducing some well established techno names to the psy scene is a good thing Funny, most people completely diss the Thomas P Heckman track, personally I find it the best one here! This isn't "just" techno, it's ACIEEEEEED techno! Man hearing that 303 line slightly changing all throughout the track gives me goosebumps. In a way this is more effective at inducing a trance state than most full-on released these days. Of course one couldn't have a psy label comp with techno music without XDream themselves... Here they give us a very cool tribal track, it's very different to anything they've released before and personally I applaud the change in style. Now if only they wouldn't have put that stupid sample of a "robot chick" in the middle of the track... God I find it so annoying. CJ Bolland (a Belgian, BTW ) delivers a nice tune but I must say that I've heard better stuff from him. And let's not forget that he's not "just" a techno producer, he started out by making some cool breakbeat ambient and is also behind a trance all-time classic called The Prophet (which I highly recomend to everyone to listen) Wasn't a big fan of Geomancer before and I'm still not now... this brings me to what I initially said: if you want techno, go to real techno producers, they make it better Kloq is another pretty cool techno tune. Then comes Prime suspect which reminds us of a LOT of X-Dream's "post-Irritant" style... which I hate!! Will someone shoot that damn chick so producers will stop recording her vocals and put them in tracks? man, it's so fucken annoying... Synthetic is a nice downtempo track with some industrial elements, although nothing really special here... then comes a VERY nice tune from Juno Vs X-Dream which is basically the original but on a higher BPM. I like this a LOT although I can't help getting the feeling that something's missing... first of all, like others here said, the track is just too short, it leaves you flat on the face after just 5 minutes. It's as if there wasn't anymore space on the CD so the compiler simply cut it down... Other than that I really don't like the way they recorded the piano sample: it's VERY loud, actually it's so loud that there is a slight distortion, which gives the track a eurotrancy feeling and I find that a pitty because that's not at all how the piano line sounded in the original. and I kept the worst track for last which is the one by Control F ... ok, I don't mind mixing my psy with some techno (preferably acid...) but no fucken hardtrance please! Conclusion ok, this ain't really psytrance but I like the whole idea of blending artists from different genres and, above all, almost all the tracks are top quality (which is pretty rare for a comp these days...). So I rate this a 9/10 faves: 1, 3, 6 (!!!), 10 (!)
