Lemmiwinks replied to naroyaran's topic in International Multi-Day Festivals

The BEST psytrance shop as far as I'm concerned... only problem is that they only distribute known labels so stuff released on small lables are hard to find if not inexistant

Tell me what you think about the reviews layout?
Lemmiwinks replied to Lemmiwinks's topic in General Psytrance
how the hell was it easy to search??? If you were searching for anything else than the latest releases it was practically unusable... Also, if I put them all in one place then this site isn't anything special compared to isratrance, trance.net or sonicblend... IMO we need a system that attracts reviewers who find those too confusing (and which was the main reason why in the database days people prefered reviewing here...) -

Ale man that would be nearly impossible... genre-splitting is a VERY subjective thing (for example X-Dream - Radio was released in 1998 and people STILL argue whether it's minimal or melodic... also Indoor - Progressive Trance was called "progressive" in 1995 but now has NOTHING in common with what we call progressive today. And there are like a million other examples.). Not to mention that I have never ever heard of a genre called "kids trance" and the examples you give in Nitzhonot are anything but Nitzhonot (Harr-El from California Sunshine is one of THE godfathers of goatrance BTW). So to come back on topic, before putting into different genres you'd first need a general consensus on just what elements define that genre and that just isn't the case... Otherwise you'd need someone who listens to ALL the albums to decide where to put them and that's impossible as well... -
Tell me what you think about the reviews layout?
Lemmiwinks replied to Lemmiwinks's topic in General Psytrance
what you mean by clicking on "Goa Reviews"? I agree but that isn't an option for now until that V2 version will come. In the meantime all I can do is reorganize them under a forum version... -
Hi there! I'd like your inputs on the new layout for the reviews section. The main thing that's bugging me are the comps: if I put all releases of a year in one section then the comps will be all over the place. Some start with "V/A", others start with "VA", still others start directly with the comp name. Then the even more difficult part is that some have a space between the "VA" and the title, maybe an example will be better: say all comps start with V/A. Then you have them sorted differently if the title is "V/A Name" or "V/A - Name" or "V/A-Name" or "V/A -Name"... Now I could set up a rule saying that everyone should start their reviews of a comp with a standard title (say "V/A - Name"). But then I think that there's a good chance that not everyone will respect that format so I'll have to edit the posts all the time. The other solution would be to make 2 subforums in each year - one for artist albums and EPs and one for comps (like the system I'm currently trying out for 2005). I could eventually add a Chill-out section making this forum's sorting look almost identical to the database system we loved so much. This would be more convenient as all the comps would be in just one place but then there would be too many forums... So what are your ideas? You're also free to tell me other ideas, they are all welcome Just a few replies to some FAQs: no this system won't replace the database accessible when clicking on the left menu bar on "Goa Reviews". It would be too difficult to manually copy all the reviews and what's the use in copying in 2005 reviews written in 2000 anyway? It will be a bit awkward for older releases since they will be double-featured but keep in mind this is only a temporary solution. And I heard some complain that the Forums section should stay on top... personally I think that it should stay below the reviews simply because this was initially a reviews site so it would be a way of "going back to our roots". The main idea was that people would come to psynews (goatrance.free.fr at the time for those who remember ) to read/ post reviews and then they would eventually drop by the forum to discuss some psytrance matters... then it went to discussing non-psytrance matters (hence the off-topic section) and now it seems more like people come to the forum and occasionally read/ post a review or 2... Personally I found the original system better and basically what made this site much better than other psytrance sites. What do others think?

Filteria wins by far! After a while I didn't find it as good so it just stayed on my shelf... but then I played it again a few weeks ago and it was AWESOME!!! Somehow it all grew on me. Whereas at first I found the tracks to be lacking indiduality now I found each track had it's distinct personality. Also whereas at first I found it sounded almost like a copy of IFO now I find it has it's own style, similar to IFO but distinct nonetheless. All in all I have been listening to this album a LOT more now than when I first got it!!

It is too big a job It would take weeks if not months and I think you're missing my point: the idea is simply to have a more bearable wait in the anticipation of V2.00 of this site, it's definatley not a permanent solution (that one will probably integrate old and new reviews in a nice automatically-updated database and will be heaven for reviewers all around the world ) -
100% agree... but the technical aspects would be MUCH more difficult (the main reason that the database system was abandoned and we were left with just the forum section was that the "database" is static, so someone has to always check for now reviews and manually update it). And then don't forget that this is just a temporary measure in the wating for the big psynews revamp... which will come someday... So see this as a compromise in the meantime, it's definatley NOT a definitive measure...

well like I said in the off-topic part... IMO the reviews section is more important than the forum one (let's not forget that at first psynews' main function was for reviewing...) so personally I find it better for the reviews part to be on top... Maybe I'll make a poll in the following days asking what others think. -
Please read and respect these rules/guidelines before posting new reviews. HERE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT REVIEWS. NOT SIMPLE COMMENTS, NOT DISCUSSIONS, BUT REVIEWS ! 1. Please use the appropriate release year before posting . If you're posting in a "multiple year" thread (ie. 2002 - 1998) then specify the release year in the thread title. 2. If you’re an artist / label that wants to promote a new release please use the “Promos” group and not this one! ANY promos found in the reviews section will be moved. 3. This section is for psytrance reviews and psytrance related genres reviews only! If you want to discuss the best releases this year, what albums should be considered “classics”, the reviews section layout, the quality of reviews, the latest Tool release, want to request a review, etc. etc., then please use the General or Off-Topic sections of the forum!!! This is intended for psytrance music and subgenres only so no reviews of parties or other music genres. A bigger tolerance will be allowed for old stuff (stuff released before 96) since back then there wasn't an "official definition" of psytrance. 4. BEFORE posting a new review, check if a review of the album hasn’t already been written. If it’s the case then write your review in the already existing thread and do NOT open a new one! Finding older topics should be easy, use the “Search” function: type part or the whole album title and don’t forget to limit the search to the subforum of the year you want to post in. If you're starting a new thread for a compilation then you should ALWAYS write the title under the format : "V/A - Name of comp". So that all the compilations will be easier to find. So do NOT start a topic with "VA" (no "/" between the V and the A) or "V/A :" (":" instead of "-"), "VA Name of Comp" (no "-" between the V/A and the name) etc. 5. When opening a new thread put the name of the album and artist in the topic title and make sure it doesn’t have any typos (or else the search function won’t work). If you made a mistake, you can easily re-edit the title by using the “Edit” button at the end of your post, if that function is not working, then report your topic to moderators asking to correct the typos. 6. Please say WHY you like/dislike an album and don’t write childish one-phrase reviews like “This is a killer release!! 10/10!” or “This sucks. 0/10”. Reviews like that are not very informative and don’t do much except annoy others who are looking for full reviews … Also, if you have received an album as a promo directly from the artist/label try not to be an ass-licker in the review… most of the time it shows and it’s VERY annoying not to mention that in the long run your credibility as an objective reviewer will be tarnished. 7. Personal grudges against artists or reviewers are not welcomed and will be deleted and might lead to moderation so try to use your brain before posting. If you have anything to say to the artist or another reviewer you can always PM (Private Message) or e-mail them. 8. It would be nice that whenever someone opens a new thread for a review they start with the full album stats (pic of the cover, track names, label, release date, etc.). 9. We advise and ask you not to write reviews for samples of releases. It's best if you post in the Reviews section after having listened to the whole release. Happy reviewing and as always, suggestions are welcome (as long as you post them in this thread and don't open a new one)

Well I guess you noticed that I revamped the reviews section to be much more user-friendly. The thing is that now there are still some old reviews remaining that I've probably overlooked. So if you want to help, simply copy-paste the topic title in this post (if you put the link it would be even better) and the release date of the album and I will move it to the apropriate section in no time
-
So you asked for it, now here it is! Not much to see now, but the faster you'll use it, the faster it will grow PS I woke up today and had this great idea for organizing the reviews section: basically we'll have a system close to the database system we loved so much (sorting by year and alphabetical). Hope you'll like it

Psynews’ "Buyer/Seller Feedback" subforum exists for members to provide feedback after buying something from or selling something to another Psynews member. Here are a few guidelines and tips: 1. Use it !! If you have a transaction with a fellow member, leave feedback for them! The more feedback exists, the better the resource the Feedback forum will be for other buyers/sellers, so buyers/ sellers who were hesitating to do business will step in and this will attract more transactions which in turn get more feedbacks which will attract more buyers/sellers and so on. 2. Do not be afraid of posting negative comments if you truly had a negative experience. The Feedback forum is not very helpful if it only provides positive feedback. (That said, negative feedback should be based ONLY on a negative transaction, not personal grudges.) Also do NOT use the feedback forum if you haven’t actually made a transaction. This is certainly not the place to settle personal grudges so misuse of this subforum will result in deleting the post and even to a permanent ban! 3. VERY IMPORTANT!! BEFORE creating a NEW feedback thread for a member or vendor, please make sure that an existing thread for that member or vendor does not already exist. This section is ordered alphabetically so you should be able to find the user pretty easily. Another way to do this is to use the "search" function, searching for the username in the title only, and limiting the search to the Buyer/Seller Feedback forum. If the person or vendor already has an existing thread, please add your comments there. If you need to start a new thread, please use the member's username as the thread title. Make sure you spell the username correctly so that your thread will show up in searches. If you started a new thread and made a typo, you can use the "Edit" button on the bottom toolbar of your post to reedit it. Don't hesitate to do so... And don't ask a mod to do it, you can do it yourself 4. Little add-on: although the Buy/ sell forum is only for personal use (no commercial links) I see nothing wrong with reviewing you favorite online (or offline...) psytrance shop. Simply start the thread with "SHOP" to let users make the difference between the 2. So for example if I write a review of psyshop I'll write in my topic title "SHOP: Psyshop". 5. Like the Reviews section, I have ordered posts alphabetically for more ease of use. This means that threads aren't bumpable anymore so don't be surprised if you just made a new thread and it doesn't show up on top. Just look for it in alphabetical order and it will be there. 5. Obviously you can’t give yourself feedback, an actual transaction has to be made… 6. Please limit comments to your personal transaction experiences -- the Feedback forum is not a discussion forum. If your experience was negative, try to explain exactly what happened on a factual basis -- you may be upset, but don't flame. If the buyer/seller is someone to avoid dealing with in the future, your explanation of exactly what happened should be enough to inform others. 7. If you disagree with a negative comment written about you, it is YOUR responsibility to contact the person who posted it and resolve the situation; you can ask the person to edit their negative post. A moderator can NOT step in and edit/ remove a negative feedback unless there are clear signs of abuse (ie. new user registers just to give negative feedbacks, signs that no actual transaction took place, etc.)

ah come on, I find it pretty funny actually reminds me of those Rage Against the Machine t-shirts with "Fuck" written like it was Ford For me it's just a way of making fun of the whole corporate marketing image.
