but does anyone have the tracklist? No offense, but if this is one of those cheap tricks to raise quick money by putting old tracks on a CD and guilt-tricking people into buying it because"it's for the good cause" then I'm giving it a thumbs down and will prefer continuating to donate money to charity organisations... it just makes more sense...

ah yes, it's good to see I'm not the only one who feels this way about dark trance
-
believe it or not, that has already happened But like I said, even if I personally don't take some at a party, I enjoy the "contact high" from others... And I can't believe so many people voted for the "freindly psy trancers" thing... don't you know that 90% of those "freindly psy trancers" wouldn't be so friendly if they weren't high??? Don't mean to advocate drug usage but don't get cause and effect mixed up or you might end up walking away with a distorted impression...

ja ik spreek een beetje nederlands maar niet veel

best: Mandalavandalz, Flying Scorpions (BTW any news on them, any upcoming new releases?) worst: Haltya!!! I can't stand more than 2 minutes of their music!!! That cheezy 70s disco-like atmosphere... ARRGGHHHH!!! Except Red-Eye Jed-I, that was a pretty cool oldschoolish track
-
well I DID like it a lot on first few listens... now I find it pretty minimal and repetitive... @phatpat: funny how tastes may vary... for me it was the other way around: at first the new 1200 Mics sounded good but not great, now it's actually in my top 5 of 2004!! BTW I also agree on Horus the Chorus. I found that melody a total killer on first few listens, now it sounds childish and simplistic...

hehe I know people won't like what I say but I went for the drugs (hallucinogens, definatley not cocain and shit)... for me a psy party isn't a psy party if there are no drugs. I mean, yes the nature good, decos are important, good music is important, friendly people are important... but if I'm not high (or people around me) then I can't help feeling that something's missing. I always get the mental image of some mad scientist in a lab who ads ingerdients over ingredients and everything's boiling and all and then suddenly he adds one little ingredient more and it all clicks together (IT'S ALIVE!!! IT'S ALIVE!!! hehehe) Even if I don't take any, I like the "contact high" and seeing people's faces when high. Also it is the drugs that make people friendlier than usual instead of the "I don't know you so get the fuck out of my face!" attitude that prevails in clubs. It's so nice to be high and talk to another dude that's high too... Also, with the crap music that's being played ourdays at parties, how can you enjoy it otherwise??? sorry if I offended anyone with my remarks, keep in mind they're my personal opinions and everyone's entitled to their own

Here is my top: Four Carry Nuts - Mechanical Age: I remember getting over enthusiastic about this one, now I honestly can't find what I liked so much about it... The Misted Muppet - From the Legend: I actually said it was THE best 04 release... guess I was wrong about that one However it came after a dry spell of mediocre release after mediocre release so when I finally found something worthwhile I was so happy about it. Space Cat - Mechanical Dream: at first I found a lot of nice warm melodies... now I don't know where those melodies dissapeared!! Funny how perceptions change... Miraculix - The Arrival: i remember I liked this one, didn't find it THE best, but a pretty good album... now I listened to it a few days ago and found it HORRIBLE!!! It all sounded so amateurish and mediocre... So what about you guys?
-
no offense Nemo, but honestly you should've imagined that there would be more people from Israel or Canada or South Afirca than from San Marino, Monaco and Liechtenstein.... ah well, what's done is done ah even in the psytrance world there are fights Well, I'm happy that all the Belgians are back on this site (I was feeling a bit lonley for a few years )
-
well that's also due to the fact that EVERYBODY knows of eBay but not many of other sources. Actually I can sell without problems a PDA screen protector for around 4€ on eBay when if one looks around well will find a pack of 10 such protectors for 10€ on the net!! (thus I sell it 4 times more expensive -- but don't tell anyone ) Other factors can be lack of trust in international shipping and/ or lack of credit card... there are quite a few factors that influence the price. But like Ukiro said, some stuff goes higher on eBay but there are also a lot of bargains if you know how to look for them. So I guess the age-old adage Caveat Emptor still has it's value

horayyy!!! I remember a time when this place was filled with Belgians until that pesky psygarden opened no offence, just that I don't know much dutch so my comunication is kindof limited over there. and yes, the 2nd one was Anoebis
-
5 people from Belgium?? I thought they all migrated to psygarden... only see 2 around regularly (a part from me of course )
-
yep indeed... good if you're into popish-rock but not for psytrancers IMO... Also, the Return to Tunguska track was featured in the intro to the Shpongle Live in Eilat desert set that is (was?) commonly available on the net.
-
so what's supposed to be the use of this poll again??
-
ok, probably not the best place to discuss this but... I'd hardly consider IFO to have fine and smooth melody structures... believe me, I knew when they changed. It was precisely that "in-your-face" style that I liked about IFO... it's true they became much more discreet with FOL but that's another story...

Best Portable Headphone Ever
Lemmiwinks replied to tone's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
heh you're a long way from home pal... if you want something serious get some Etymotic Research ER4s... then we'll talk -
ever listened to IFO? it also had the same structure and intense melody use... But I see your point, listening to the whole album from start to finish can be a bit tiresome on the ears, I agree... although noone forces you to listen to the whole thing in one shot
-
100% agree!!! I heard some very old sets (around 1993 - 94) by some famous DJs (Carl Cox and some others that I don't remember right now) played at Ibiza and maaan the diversity was incredible!! The tracks ranged from commercial acid house to jungle to hardcore and even some goatrance, all this in ONE set!! Such diversity would be unthinkable our days I wonder why anything was good back then and now music played at a venue by a DJ must be a specific sub-subcateogry of a defined genre... I mean, who made these rules anyway??
-
DEBUT album??? This should be his 4th full album by my count... BTW killer stuff indeed, I really really liked his older stuff, especially the track called Pleureuse ... the beginning is so beautifull it brings tears to my eyes
-
well you're partially right... I'm stuck in a timewarp and still think it's 1996 anyway, I knew that my statement would sound too harsh for some (that's why I said "sorry if I sound harsh" ). And of course, it's only my opinion, I'm not God or anything (not even the dictator of some small 3rd world country ) so I guess not much people will change their opinions simply because I say what I think out loud. Anyway, for the "lack of creative talent", I've already said it (actually I was already saying it with minimal years ago): with progressive I don't get the impression of listening to a track that was made by an artist who had a creative vision and got in the studio to express it. For me, with progressive it's just a sound engineer that fiddled around with some sounds and FX until he got some interesting sounds... but there's no "soul", no "leading idea" in the track, it's just some sounds thrown on top of a 4/4 kick. Now I hear you say "but it's the same thing with full-on!", and you're right for most of the stuff (not very keen on full-on either), but at least there's a melody here and there, something that catches your attention. Like a friend of mine would say: with oldschool you could listen to a track, press "pause" on your CD player and you could mentally carry on the tune. With progressive, it might sound good but if you press "pause" then it's all gone, you can't even recall what you were hearing a few seconds after. By this I don't mean any disrespect to anyone who listens/ produces progressive, that's just the way it feels to my ears.
-
sorry if I sound harsh but for me "progressive" or "psygressive" is just a synonym for "lack of creative talent" Sound engineers are made to second artists, not make their own stuff...
-
indeed
-
hehe I was just about to say it was a great track but not funky but I see that others beat me to it I should listen to that track again, it's been a while
-
indeed, Psy-Harmonics had a phase where they were making VERY wierd stuff, actually even though Australia and Finland are at opposite sides on the Globe, their music sounded very much alike for that period IMO. That said, don't buy a comp with Texas Fagott AND Shaolin Wooden Men on it and expect it to be morning israeli oldschool à la Astral Projection and MFG... it's just common sense...

Butterfly News - Twisted Paramters By Kemic-Al
Lemmiwinks replied to Butterfly Records's topic in General Psytrance
from the moderator: in case anyone wonders if there's a connection between this label and the parent of Dragonfly: ""The label is dedicated to a long lost friend Sharyn who we lost in a tragic accident in Holland 4 years ago." WE USE TO CALL HER BUTTERFLY AS SHE HAD A TATOO OF A BUTTERFLY ON HER CHEST !!! As we mentioned before a label based in Malta Butterfly Records has absolutly no connection with Dragonfly Recordings in the U.K. and for sure there was no intantion of using the name Butterfly Rec. to confuse any of you besides there has been no releases under that name Butterfly Rec. U.K. the ectual label is called Butterfly Recordings and NOT records !!! as this has also been discused with Humphy connected to Dragonfly Rec. " now let's comment on the album and not on the choice of names, ok? have some respect for the artists involved, especially when they name their stuff in memory of someone who died...
