  1. well yes and no, indeed I think every country has good and bad acts but back in the "golden days" there were like heaps of GOOD acts coming from certain countries (Israel and UK come to mind) which overshadowed the bad... nowadays it kindof the other way around IMO
  2. I don't think there is a doubt between the 2 systems: we ALL agree that a database is a million times better... but in the meantime a forum is the next best thing during the wait for a better database system which will allegedly come one day (hehe this is becomming like all those biblical stories on the comming of the Messiah )
  3. LOL yeah; especially with that big white beard hanging out the front window
  4. lol didn't you know that ANY music sounds cool when you're stoned?? maaan I never thought of that... ever thought of getting into politics? Cause they could really need someone like you
  5. as far as I know there are 2 arists: Ra (one of my favorites ) and Trold...
  6. that's odd, when I commuted daily (meaning that usually I was already in my car by 7:30 AM) I found that NOTHING got me going better than some killer oldschool!! I'd wake up with a frown then walk through the rain to my car still feeling sleepy, then I'd put in some old Etnica or the likes and I'd instantly feel awake and have a big smile on my face MUCH better than a cup of coffie if you ask me
  7. well I have to admit it gets boring in the long run... I guess I'd like it better if I did it while lying on a beach and watching the beautiful scenery yeah actually I tend to prefer progressive/ minimal stuff when I drive to full-on madness... But i have absolutley no trouble in blasting psy full volume and keeping the legal speed limit (actually since gas is expensive in my parts, I tend to do around 110 km/h on the highway when the legal speed limit in Belgium is 130...)
  8. I think they come in 2nd after The Netherlands... Personally I voted for Israel for giving us such killer artists during "the golden age of goa" (96-98)... but the hoard of untalented artists releasng crap lately kind of cancels it out
  9. Well you can always read my review of 1200 Mics in the reviews section I'd just like to add that since I've written the review, the album is actually growing on me!! Especially the last 2 more downtempo tracks (I actually find Garden of Eden to be one of the best 04 tracks!!). So if you're open-minded enough not to diss it immediatley jut because it's a GMS project then I'd say go for it!! I'd definatley pick it over Raja Ram's Stash Bag 3... highlights of that comp for me was Eskimo - Popcorn with a sample from an 80s Italo Disco track!! Also call me stupid but I liked the Skazi remix of Smells Like Teen Spirit *ducks to avoid the rain of empty soda cans aimed at his head*
  10. it depends... sometimes it could be 10-12 hours a day (basically I sit in front of my PC, stroll through various sites and listen to music all day that's also the time when I'm "inspired" for writing reviews). When in my car it's 100% goa so depending on how much I travel by car it could be anything from 30 mintues to 4 hours (last year I had to commute every day, I actually was happy when there was a trafic jam cause it left me more time to listen to my music ) Then again, some days I'm not so lucky, have to go out and do stuff so then I listen considerably less... and then there are whole weeks, even months when I'm so put down by new releases that I stop listening to the genre completely unless at parties/ festivals (had such a "dry spell" last summer).
  11. I wouldn't call Dino Psaras full-on... As for me... well I've always had a soft spot for Melicia
  12. definatley 96-97... the time when you could just go to a local music store and blindly pick up a comp in the "goatrance" section and KNOW it would be a killer!!! My first contact with the scene was through various DJ sets late at night on the radio (and on TV!). I remember that I'd listen to a track and think "WHOAH!! This is a PERFECT track!! It just can't get any better than this", then the sceond track would come and I'd think "Maaan I can't believe this, it's even BETTER than the first!!", then the third "oh my God it's EVEN better!!" and so on until the set abruptly ended and I was litteraly shaking from all the emotions I felt... kindof hard to go to sleep afterwards hehe
  13. off topic lol sick bastard!! I was just listening to Colorbox - Cyanid when opening this topic and Kevin Smith's head movement synced perfectly with the track!!
  14. 1. MELICIA - Genesis 2. BEAT HACKERS - System error (Psytekk rmx) 3. SIRIUS ISNESS - Micro tunes 4. APOCALIPSE - Master peace 5. DYNAMIC - Alien craft 6. ULTRA VOICE - Far away (Bizarre Contact rmx) 7. SESTO SENTO - Dive to dive 8. YAHEL - We know 9. DYNAMO - Spun dry 10. DYNAMIC - Alien connection A lot of people think that this comp is fake, that it's just a joke made to show how cheesy psytrance has become latley... Well IT'S NOT A JOKE!!! This comp actually exists!! Just check psyshop and you will see... That said I must admit that I have latley had the dream of driving around town in a Mitsubishi Evo VIII with a 500W subwofer and pumping psy, so even if the concept is cheezy, I'm sure a lot of you already had similar thoughts And just go to any psy festival, you'll ALWAYS find at least 5 cars blasting psy around your tent... I mean, most of us men are atracted to good music, fine women and powerful cars, right? Why try to fight it? Anywayz on to how it sounds... well, as you probably imagine from reading the track names, it's full-on... however I don't know if it's because I haven't listened to some "classical full-on" in a while but I kinda like these tracks!! I mean, the ones I haven't heard yet cause there is some stuff that's pretty old here! Melicia , Yahel and Dynamic - Alien Connection for example have been released YEARS ago!! Also, a little search shows me that basically ALL the tracks here have already been released on at least one comp before, but I haven't listened to a lot of full-on comps in 04 so except from stuff I recall from various parties, I haven't heard most of the stuff here Sirius Isness is the real standout here IMO, it has a VERY nice melody which reminds me of the oldschool days, that track really bought a big smile on my face Actually one of the best full-on tracks of this year IMO!! Master Peace is also a pretty good track, so is the one by Sesto Sento . Nothing much to say about the style because you all probably already know by now the style of these artists... Conclusion cheezy concept set aside, this is a pretty nice full-on comp, good for those morning hours. Almost all these tracks have already been released on various comps so if you have a lot of full-on comps from 04 you probably already have most of these tracks as well... if not, then it's a good way to get the "best of 04 full-on"... 8/10 PS. A little side-note on the concept: if this was music made for those mega-1000W+ subwoofers then why no artists with a killer bass like Parasense , Penta and such? that sure would've been a good way to test those sound systems
  15. well yes and no... because now that I look back, in those days MWNN - Teleport and Hallucinogen - LSD had 3 minute radio edits and passed on daytime radio!! Even the cheeziest 1200 Mics or Yahel track doesn't manage to do that... so how do you people explain that??
  16. so in the 21st century men can't be physically atracted to woman anymore??? Indeed there's something about a hot chick how knows her psy that makes any man go crazy... it's like hot chicks who are into fast cars anyway back to the topic... I know this will sound druggy but my preference for a party is in direct proportion with the dose of acid I took...
  17. well I'm not sayig that they don't have a slightly different sound but you have to admit that they all sound similar... The only russian artist I've heard lately doing something completely different is Synsun...
  18. why should they? anyway, listen to Dark Soho - Long Way Home ... IMO it has what comes closest to a "Jeam Michel Jarre melody" in psy...
  19. I could live with that Anyway, to get back to the original topic, I found Private Collection to be his worst... Hallucinate was a bit better though... eve if it's not oldschool, there are some pretty decent tracks in there And yes, when you look back, Yahel has ALWAYS made cheese... even his first 2 albums (which I liked a lot BTW) sound like a "cheesiefied" version of AP... it's just that now his cheese is different from the oldschool sound (albeit not into eurotrance territory either IMO)
  20. my personal faves are Vertige and Amazon (the track), both from the album Amazon
  21. is it just me or is Ale tedning to become the next Jacob (except he posts psytrance-rlated stuff )
  22. ok, I had to re-listen to his albums to recall his stuff... the thing is that from 7 albums he only did ONE that really was good: Amazon. I'm sorry but albums before and after that simply didn't do it for me... However I realize now that Amazon did indeed have some pretty killer stuff in there so I take back my comments on him being amateurish
  23. 1. Non stop to nowhere 2. Light in the dark 3. Aliens cream 4. The toy 5. Long way home 6. Away 7. Magic 8. All the brithness 9. Peace of mind I hear that before Dark Soho were 3 guys and now one left so the new album released under the name Dark Soho is only the remaining 2 guys... and it shows... this has NOTHING to do with previous releases!! It's all happy vibes and cheesy melodies... where's the "dark" in "Dark Soho"??? All those goth guitars that made their sound distinct are now cheesy 80s rock riffs made to make people smile on the dancefloor... Aliens Cream is the standout here, it reminds me a bit of their old style (well actually it reminded me more of older The Delta stuff ). Long Way Home sounds like a mix between Dark Soho's "gothic psy" style and 80s synth stuff (Jean Michel Jarre and such), this feeling is probably given by the proeminent Moog that's on top. There's even a sitar in the mix with the electric guitar and the Moog!! I can't really decide if I like this track or not It does sound different to anything else that's been done before though. And that's it... all other tracks could've just as easily been released under some other name cause they have NOTHING to distinguish them from the "typical" full-on that's being released these days!! However there are also some nice downtempo tracks showing us a completely different side of their project. Non Stop to Nowhere has the trademark "goth guitar" and sounds like some breakbeat ambient... too bad it all goes to shit around min 4:00 when the beat becomes 4/4 and the track turns into some untinteresting full-on... why didn't they split this track in 2? It sounds like 2 completely different tracks "stuck together"... Peace of Mind is my fave track here. It's downtempo and has a lot of sitars in it. Yes, overall it sounds kindof 80s new-ageish cheesy but I like it Conclusion I was gonna say that I've never seen such a break in style for a group but then I remembered this years' releases by IM and X-Dream ... so in the end I'm not that surprised to see yet another group go for the cheese instead of staying true to their style. Ah well, as long as they don't add singing on top That said, there are 2 enjoyable tracks that remind the older style (probably unreleased stuff from before the 3rd guy left the group...) so it's not ALL bad However I definatley wouldn't buy their next album unless it's a donwtempo one... 6/10
  24. well I would've said Asia 2001 to Nitzhonot but you mention Luminus in there... And Total Consciousness is one of my top goa tracks of all time!!!
  25. I agree that compared to "modern psy" Asia 2001 released a lot of great stuff... but when you compare it to the "gods of goa" (Transwave, Chi AD, AP, Etnica, Pleiadians, California Sunshine, MFG, Hallu, Chakra & Edi Mis, Indoor, Space Cat,... to name just a few...) I find his suff mediocre...
