Not really. Everything has its use none of the others would work very well for. Except for the HAK-360, which I've currently lent to a friend. Then, of course, there are also those guys with 30 headphones, 20 iems, 5 solid state amps, 10 tube amps, 100 different pairs of tubes and 10 different mp3 players over at head-fi...

Yes, I've got very old Rev. 1 LCD-2s. Just recently I replaced the really old (and rather stiff) LCD-2 pads with completely new super-soft LCD-3 pads and they're, once again, transformed (sound and comfort). =) This is my head-fi profile: http://www.head-fi.org/u/1419/ramtha604

xb90ex http://en.goldenears.net/17313 ath-m50 http://en.goldenears.net/10034 momentum http://en.goldenears.net/19104 So apparently the ath-m50 are only very slightly "boomy" while the xb90ex are almost as boomy as it gets. If you look at the waterfall plots (the fancy, colourful pictures), you can see for the eb90ex, that 2.68 milliseconds after a ~200 hz note was supposed to end, the note will still be perceived at about -15db relative to its original volume (it shouldn't be there at all anymore, in best case). For the ath-m50 the same is true, but a bit better with about -18db. In general sound reproduced by the xb90ex decays slowly and steadily, while the ath-m50 smears the notes for 1 millisecond almost without any decay, but then it gets much cleaner quite quickly. Looking at the momentums, the waterfall plots look much better than either the xb90ex or m50 in the bass region, and they're supposed to be about as boomy as the m50. I don't know much how their classifications of boominess can be trusted, though, accordig to golden ears the hd25-1 is clearly more boomy than the ath-m50, while for me quite the opposite seems to be the case (hd25-1 should sound very similar to hd25-2). I don't know. If you can find a site with a frequency response chart of the mdr-xb90ex, you could compare that to the frequency response of the ATH-M50. There are plenty of m50 charts, xb90ex didn't turn up in a few quick googles, though... If you manage to find one and want to compare between different sites you would have to factor in the probably different frequency response target curves, which are essentially specific modifications to the raw, measured frequency response curve... here are the momentums: http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/SennheiserMomentum.pdf ath-m50s: http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/AudioTechnicaATHM50.pdf

I listened to the ATH-M50 recently and they have really overblown bass. If you like over-empahsized bass they're decent, I guess, but if you prefer a neutral frequency response avoid them. If you can get the Beyerdynamic DT250 (250 ohm version) I can highly recommend them (they might be slightly bass-shy, but the ATH-M50 are easily 10 times more bass-exaggerated than the DT250s are bass-shy). Otherwise the Sennheiser HD25-1 or HD25-2 should be fine, too (on-ears), they're just slightly lacking in mids with slightly muddy bass (too much midbass). If it's only the ATH-M50 or Sennheiser Momentum, I don't know enough about the Momentums to make a recommendation, but maybe get the Amperior (they're (probably) slightly improved HD25-2s) if they're available.

What Do You Listen through?
trancenonZENsedance replied to Shpongled247's topic in General Psytrance
That the format is inherently gapless doesn't mean that every player will support gapless playback from one flac file to the next. In fact there appear to be many players which cannot do this. I'm not sure where the problem with it lies, though, as it should be a case for simple pre-caching at worst... -
What music are you listening to right now?

Thanks. Who knows. I can certainly imagine that the border between "still profitable" and "too much risk with too little possible reward" is very hard to find for a release in rather small numbers and as a business a label is probably better safe than sorry. I'm sure there could be ways around this problem, but if noone (and I'm not excluding myself here) cares enough, I suppose the trend to download-only is going to continue. Blame capitalism/the world/the universe, I guess.

Nowhere did I write that I was angry about the label. If I was angry about the label, the reason for that would have to be that I'd already have made up my mind about why the last copy doesn't really seem to be the last copy at all - in this case I wouldn't have asked the centeral question of my posting (which you just deemed unimportant and rather chose to post, just to call my motivations into question). It's not your job to tell me when I have a story or where it's supposed to end. Yes, I'd be totally fine with them printing more copies and nowhere did I say something different. Why do you feel the need to explain this to me? I'm not done, just because you say so. I think you should stop discussing ME (= off topic), instead of discussing the release or the experience of the purchasing of the release (you don't seem to have to say anything of substance concerning this). Nice. One step at a time. Nowhere did I say something different. Do you think you're in the position to know better how I should manage my money than I do myself? I don't think so and I don't agree with you telling me how to manage my money. Yes, because the fuss you chose to read into my words wasn't even there to begin with. You agree (at least 11 minutes after wirting this) that it was a pain in the ass for me to make my order (that's the fuss that was really there), but you assume I posted about it, because I was angry about the label (that's the fuss that is/was only in your mind). The way you chose to discuss my posting, so far, was very fussy in a very unnecessary way. When you don't understand what I write, maybe just ask me for an explanation instead of deciding that I'm really just angry and have no point at all and telling me how I should manage my money, because as long as you don't even understand what I try to bring across, this is very pointless, indeed. For the sake of this fine thread of this fine release, I hope we can end this off-topic discussion now. I think exactly this could be case. I don't say I'm sure it is, because I cannot know. And if it is the case, then I still cannot know if that's a part of bandcamp or the responsibility of the label. And since I'm a curious person I was asking if someone could explain it.

Just say you don't know. Did you even read what I went through just to get what was supposed to be the last remaining copy? Did you even read what I wrote? I tried to get what seemed to be the last copy (so I wouldn't have to pay fantasy-prices to those people you speak about). Are you trying to piss me off, or do you just have a little trouble with reading comprehension?

Ok, the music is really great, but: I ordered 4 days ago, when there was only "1 remaining", since paypal was kind of slow with letting the money I transferred to it show up in my account I sat there for about 3 hours putting that last(?) remaining copy into my basket and out of my basket and into my basket (and so on), so noone would buy it before me, until my brother had time to create a paypal account solely for the purpose to order Green Room for me, using his credit card. So it works out and he orders the cd for me and bandcamp says "sold out". About an hour later: "1 remaining" again. The next day: "2 remaining". Today "1 remaining". Yeah, this isn't funny at all. Can someone explain this? Are people cancelling orders left and right?

I'm not a huge alcohol fan in general, but isopropyl alcohol works well for cleaning cdplayer-laser-lenses.

not youtube, but I just found this:

I guess what I wrote was a bit misleading/unprecise. I agree with you, not everything that's unsubtle is also cheesy. But at least, I guess, most would agree that something cannot be cheesy and subtle at the same time. When it comes to music like Filteria, then I'd say the music is both obvious and subtle at the same time. It's obvious what elements of the music are meant to catch the attention, but the music is not simple enough to leave it at that. There might be an in-your-face melody playing in the foreground, but usually the melodies aren't as simple as they might sound in the first moment (so there is already some subtleness in the in-your-face melody itself) and then there are the interactions and harmonies with the other elements of the track, some or most of which are not obvious at all. And then (imo) there's also the good cheese, like, for example, spiritual healing by the muses rapt. There is maybe not as much subtle stuff going on as in some other tracks and at the same time the main melody is (at least in principle) very simple and catchy, but it's so well executed that, even though I cannot listen to it at any time, when I actually want to listen to the track, it's extremely enjoyable.

my understanding of the word "cheesy" is probably best described as the opposite of "subtle". obvious blatant obtuse
