Love BBQ with Mackies, but I think my favorite is the rmx of Kindzadza-FIght or Die. I love when a remix keeps the feel of the original song, even better if it adds to it, as this does. Its always a bummer to hear what is supposed to be a remix and you cant tell how its supposed to be a remix. Thanks Highko, for keeping true to Leo's vision!

yeah, I saw Horror Place last June near Los Angeles, and I honestly can say that party changed the way I look at trance! Ive since bought the album and its one of my favorites!
-
very nice toy! Fun to play with and pretty too! It looks like I could spend a very long time with this....
-
how about a dj mixing thread, for example what to start with, advice, links to places to buy gear, tricks, places to upload mixes etc. I mention this because Im looking for somewhere to upload mixes that doesnt have a million popups, or "click here after 60 seconds". Or that dumps the file after a week ie yousendit.

Looks like fun!

SOULSYNC :: June 17-18 in SoCal :: Derango, Polyph

wow what a great party! The lives were all amazing, Horror Place, Derango, and Fractal Cowboys all played at just the right time with the right vibe. The atmosphere at this party was exactly what Ive been searching for! Wonderful beautiful amazing people and their dancing and music! I'd never heard the Fractal Cowboys before, except as a preview for Mega Jesus of Evil, and Im still astounded! Those guys make some of the most psychedelic trance around! Absolute bang the face against the invisible giant bassdrum while turning somersaults with the soul! Overwhelming. Madness. Great stuff. Quite an inspiration! Those sounds! Like theyre made with genetically modified human parts bred to create one sound very well and long, like vthbththabthta coming from a giant cavernous salivating mouth. Will they release an album? I truly pray! the site was a beautiful place to spend the night. Trees spread their branches over the dancefloor so we could dance all day and not get overheated, trust me it was pretty hot sunday. The fire was built up all night, very skillfully by a tribe of elves (were they elves?), and by daybreak it was a mass of giant logs keeping the cold of night away. Magic was made in that place. WOnderfully large amounts of thanks to all the DJ's and artists, you guys rocked and will probably rock again! Giant huge thanks to the people who own the property, for letting us make some memories there! And another giant massive thanks to the people who threw the party, I definitely will be at your next one, maybe this time closer to Reno? Anyway keep up the wonderful work! Booooom shankar! Joe -
yeah its one of my favorites. SOme of the tracks are a little faster than Im used to but they're still pretty good, and original. And if not original, then well done, which is more important IMO.

thanks all for your good words of encouragement and advice. I do want to use a better program, but as of right now I cant really afford something like Cubase SX, or high-end VSTi's. Not at the moment, at least.
-
well I do know that song needs some work, and Im not trying to put these out there as professional or anything. I work with freeware vst's and free samples. THe bassline in that song is really REALLY deep, like you wouldnt hear it if you dont have good bass response. This is my newest song, as a result it hasnt had a lot of time to "stew" so to speak, I havent really gone back into it and messed everything around. I like the sound of it the way it is, and if you think Ive got a lot to learn, you should've heard my OLD stuff from like 1.5 yrs ago.

really that bad huh? Can anyoine tell me whats wrong with the songs?
-
http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=500173&T=5662 my newest songs, no more yousendit. If you feel like it that is, you know, its your choice, you may just hear something... oh you could call it dark psy... but... you know.....

Just for the hell of it

8|________) jaw on the floor.... wow.... whoa..... I can only hope that someday..... maybe..... I could do that too..... -
Ive uploaded 3 of my best and newest songs onto ACIDplanet. THey are darkpsy, inspired mainly by the Russian and SOuth African styles. I do try to make the style my own. I use Renoise Tracker to create the songs, along with all manner of freeware VST's. I use Kristal Audio Engine for final mastering, which makes it sound much better than Renoise alone. Let me know what you think! http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?AID=500173&T=4942

very nice uplifting tune, not cheesy like some can be, very unique. I like it! Its nice to hear something new in the morning/prog area. Reminds me, not of the sounds, but the feelings of oldschool. Very optimistic trance!

for sure, Im definitely going to wait for Pioneer's. I want something that will last a while, and something I can mess around with, not just a plain cd player. The going price on cdj100's is btwn 300 & 500 US$, not that much more expensive than a cheap setup. Ive found mixers for less than 100 US, which brings up another question, What should I look for in a mixer?
-
my favorite was always "gulf breeze" from Abduction. A great album as a whole though.

Post your best or most stupid OLDIES

tell you the truth, I still use a tracker!! ITs Renoise tracker, which is also a damn fine VST host. I used to use nothing but samples, but nowadays the only samples are sfx and the kick. This song is one of the best of my early ('03-'04) songs, made before I had any real understanding of psytrance and song mechanics and logistics. I just knew I wanted to make psychedelic sounds, rhythmically. I call it Sacred Freedom, the Logans Run samples really illustrate that idea. I used to call myself Spiral Starflame (cheesy I know but theres a story behind it, or was... or something). The file is 22.01 mb mp3 output from the tracker I used, ModPlug, which actually had VST support but no real vsti implementation. Not like renoise at least... ok so here it is. in all its awful sound quality... sacred freedom @ yousendit today is th 17th of april -
Ive just reviewed for the first time today, I chose "Hasta Las Patillas" on Discovalley. I guess you could call it in depth, I just basically explained my feelings while listening, and the imagery in my mind. DOes that qualify me for the drawing? This is a '05 release, reviewed just today the 17th of April 06... http://www.psynews.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=37137

This is one of my favorite cds in my collection. Very psychedelic, dark-hard-nightime monster throbbers and cerebral cortex-grabbing mayhem all wrapped up into 9 tracks. So here we go! Track 1 N3XU5-Sacrificial Chamber Starting out with an urgent, "hey! Hey! C'mere! Take a look at this!""What is it?""Its a Datasphere from ps12""Where is she?""Right above sector 14""there isnt anything in Sector 14!""There is now!" immediately followed by a sound like a knife slicing, scraping, hitting stone, then a motion sensor bleep and the bass starts in, not too insistent but captivating. Some squish/squeals and some people in trouble bring the song to speed. Not the darkest of dark songs, although the samples are pretty ominous, not very fast either, compared to some... To me it would be a good opener for a set, get them interested then throw something harder at them. A melodic break with a slowed down bassline, then jump back in to full 16th note bass. Almost could work in the morning, in the right vibe... Track 2 SofiaX vs Kindzadza WooHOO I love this song!! Starts off with some ambient sweeps and throws the bassline up like bad sushi. Definitely Kindzadza's bassline, throbbing kicking your ass all over the place. Sounds like ghosts, lasers, people chanting, body parts being removed... A dark voice heralds the screamy lead. "This is The Beginning" HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! AAAAAAAAHH! THen we get eaten by the crazy beasts and thrown into a dark subterranean pond. We look around and its so dark we cant see, then a train comes by and shows us the madness all around. We jump on as it passes, riding it like a snake... With all manner of beasts and spirits cavorting... The bass chugs along then changes to Kindzadza's mindwarping style, like Reality itself is being twisted... Head banging like Slayer, we hear a sample some may remember from Kindzaza's album- "operator please I need an exit!!" from the Animatrix. A short break, with a slowed chopped voice sample, another Beginning, and its SMASH TIME!! Stomping in the center of the earth sending our laser signals to distant worlds so they can know how powerful our minds are! A full-power song, as you would expect from Kindzadza, and SofiaX makes the picture whole with a galaxy of noises from the netherworld!! Track 3 Brain Waves- Spectral Paranoia Starts out with a Japanese man saying something, comes into the stomping bass familiar to fans of this kind of darkpsy. This song seems a bit manic, percussion all over the place, with a cybernetic-analog sound behind, bringing in the crunchy synth. SOme tambourine comes in after a strange noise and takes us farther along. The crunch continues for most of the song, the bassline doesnt change, the synth noises become more holographic as time goes by... Not my favorite of the album, but not bad, reminds me of DIgital Talk meeting up with Paranoize... Track 4 Kindzadza-On The Nite SIde Leo does his own thing onthis one, starting with clocks, like Pink Floyd, and a twisty bassline with tribalish percussion. "we find fury in energy" A somewhat familiar synth sound, but well done as one would expect! Playing around with the sample and synths he brings us into a cohesive space riddled with arpeggios squinching and grolophing all over us. More bells, more ripping synth, some higher frequencies explored with an analog flavor. Into a 6/8 segment, as do others on this compo. Stomps that around for a bit, a short break, then back to the headbanging. All in all a good song, great example of Leo Greshilov's style. Track 5 Para Halu-Dead Lights "The itsy bitsy spider..." I never knew a childs rhyme could be so ominous. Then some samples from It, " I swear Ill come back..." And we're in that special Para Halu place. A bassline sounds like its bubbling from a volcano, synths almost clearly crunchy. More It samps, and squishing ensues! Very entrancing song, very dark as we all know Para Halu must be. SOunds to me as if it would be pure magic outdoors in the forests. Ilove the sound of dark synths echoing through the trees! The theme continues and a stretchy synth brings more It, and another 6/8 segment. A short break full of synths and then we go back into the cave, this time to Destroy Pennywise the Clown!! We're not afraid!!! Track 6 Kindzadza vs. SofiaX-For the Princess Starts out with a creepy dwarf saying something about the princess. The bassline through this song is more repetitive than their previous song, the synths are more cybernetic than squishy this time. Of course theres squishing going on too. Atmospheric and creepy like a good dark song ought to be. Bassline key changes towards the middle are not bad, but nothing special IMO. The bass gets nice towards the end when it does the whole bend-the-universe thing. A good track but in a compo like this good isnt good enough to shine... Track 7Furious-Run Forest! Fight club samples, a tried and true russian bassline, quacking synths, percussion like drops of water, but for some reason I cant get into this track. It almost seems as if it was made to fit the samples. Which I believe have mostly been used before. Not a bad song but see above... Track 8 Candy Power-Micro Cosmos "We will know, that we chose to go crazy. Whereas, everyone else is just crazy." Candy Power is credited as Roman-DOminator (which I can only assume is the same Dominator on Deja Vu, I really enjoy the album Paranormal Connection) and Kat-Equilibrium. I love the opener sample, the bassline is very Dominator-esque, again like its bubbling out of something, a swamp or melted permafrost. The synths swirl around similar in a way to Derango, with a shuffling hat line. Would work well alongside forest trance, indeed is almost forest trance itself, if it wasnt so dark. VEry nice tune, on par with Para Halu's track, not as good as track 2. Track 9 Innersound-Meditate Tomorrow Scrunching squishing and a rumbling bass bring this one on. A twickery thing bouncing across the dimensions comes in, accenting the rhythm nicely. Distorted sawing synth lead making brain cells divide as well as die off, a lot of noises that werent apparent the first few times I gave this a listen. 2/3 through, it sounds like we're having a tooth drilled by a mad surgeon with a pet rhesus monkey screeching on his shoulder. That tooth is so stubborn though it takes a bit more muscle to get it all out... And once that old rotten tooth is out, oh what a relief!! We feel much better now. A great tune to end a comp with, no outro, just full power right to the end! 9.8/10 Some of the tunes didnt really reach out and grab me like others did, although compared to many Ive heard this is a wonderful collection of songs. This is the style for anyone interested in pure, fast hard unrelenting, though not too scary dark psytrance. Very cerebral at times, very atmospheric, creating a mental image not unlike the cover art. My favorite song by far and away is track 2, sometimes I put it on repeat and throb my way to the caves... A welcome addition to my collection, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes hard/Russian style psy. Favorites 2(!!!), 4, 5, 8, 9 dig it, cats

go to Electrypnose's site, he's got a million songs to download, and a song for remixing! Very cool guy, like I would do if I ever release anything... Keep them dancing whether your paid or not!
-
oh and the artwork is very nice indeed!

you guys do know that trk 9 is a remix of an old Silverchair song, right? I dont know about all you, but to me it brings happy memories of my youth in the mid 90's. So I like it and you all can keep hating it and deny its enjoyment if you like... So everything with guitars and straight basslines is Skazi? Maybe try listening to some more Russian psy, like Psyfactor, Kindzadza, DOminator, Dissociactive. And maybe try to be openminded... Not everything with a guitar is skazi like, and if you cant see that I guess you have a right to your opinions... even if they are a little prejudiced... IMO the songs that move me most, are trx 8, 9, 10, & 1. THe otheres to me are just OK, Madness of Sun gets a little cliche-Russian for me. I do like the screaming, or whales or whatever. All in all an OK release.

well I bought this album before I read this review, and now I dont know if that was such a good idea, but Ive heard complaints about some of the best albums I own. Im gonna reserve my opinion til I have a good listen. "Don't listen to what they say, go see." -old Chinese proverb

a very enjoyable album, some melodic/morning elements to some of the songs make it a well rounded release. Im a big fan of the interchangeable night-morning style, you know, like Slug, Gappeq, and now some Electrypnose. Versatility seems to be the name of the game, and its a very fun game! fav trx- 3, 5, 6, 9, 11
