    Psygone - Optimystique

PSYGONE-OPTIMYSTIQUE Hypnotic 1997 TRACKLIST: 1.Camaro Kanitou 2.Salvi Da Tori 3.Outer Limits 4.Spirit Of The Jungle 5.Chemical Eclipse 6.Equal Bottle Blows 7.Twisted Minds 8.Cosmonaut 9.Strange Cocoon 10.Tasmania Ok, I know this album has already been reviewed in the reviews section but since they’re other cds reviewed here although they’re already in the reviews database I decided to review it again. After all, the database section doesn’t work, so we can’t post other comments (and there are only a few of them about Optimystique) and it’s also a good way for new Goa fans to discover this album, since (I guess) the forum is more popular than the old database section. Optimystique is the first and unfortunately the only album from Psygone aka Michael Kjeldgaard from Denmark. I didn’t knew anything for this guy since I found in a cd shop a 3cd comp called ‘The Power Of Goa Trance’ and the third cd was no other than this album. I checked the reviews section here and I saw that most guys thought that Optimystique was an ok, average album but I gave it a try. When I first listened to it I thought that it’s a good album, surely above average. When I listened to it again I thought that it’s very good, then that it’s awesome and so on. After some weeks of non-stop listening I realised two things. First, I had listened to it for dozens of times (maybe more than any cd I have) and second that it’s a MASTERPIECE!!! Many guys believe that the problem with Psygone is that most of his tracks are a bit similar, cause he uses the same formula in most of his tracks. Well, that’s true but if you listened to his tracks for many times, you will realise that each of them is unique. Camaro Kanitou opens this album. This is one of the best Psygone tracks and the most popular together with Kashmir and Tasmania. This is in the Psygone formula I said, that means an atmospheric intro,a great bassline, then one by one the percussion stuffs (kick, fast hi-hats,fat hi-hat,snares) then some melody follows the bass, then the leading melody. After that a break with some insane 303’s and it ends with the leading melody again. Repetetive? Maybe. Boring? NO!!! The intro of Camaro Kanitou is unbelievable, one of the best ever. As an intro I mean the first minutes of the track before it starts building for good. The leading melody is very good, not something amazing though, but the bassline and how the track builds in the first 2:30 minutes is unfuckingbelievable!!!! This is the best track to open a set in an open-air festival. Salvi Da Tori now is much more emotional with a classic morning melody. Since you listen to it you can’t get it out of your head. A bit simple and slow but amazing track for morning times. Very good! Outer Limits is what I call ‘Goa Energy’! The bassline is fast and superb! The kick and the light hi-hats are perfect for this track, the melodies fast and energetic but the best moment here is this MIND-BLASTING 303 minute!!! What can I say? Spirit Of The Jungle is in the same style. This is the best zoo track ever made together with X-Files and Trancelestial Psychobabas. What to expect from this one? 1)Elephants 2)Power 3)Maximal Goa melodies. The 303 break comes a bit earlier that the usual, around minute 3. Again an unbelievable track, one of the best here. Chemical Eclipse. This is how an eastern melody can be awesome without being cheesy. If you draw a line between the real Goa oriental melodies and the cheesy oriental melodies Chemical Eclipse will be near the line but never crosses it. Uplifting Goa 100%. The only down/midtempo track of the album is the one with the weirdest title: Equal Bottle Blows. Beautiful melodies all the way, one of the best midtempo tracks ever! And time for acid! Twisted Minds! Yep, it can twist both your mind and body for sure! Fast and acidic don’t let you breath for a minute. No breaks here, no lazy beats, killer all the way, old-school dancefloor smasher! A bomb! Cosmonaut is one of the slowest tracks with an ok leading melody around minute 4, then some very good 303’s and then at the magic moment of 5:15 we get ONE OF THE BEST MELODIES EVER! Damn what a track!!! Strange Cocoon. Psygone style 100% again. Power, great energetic melodies and wild 303’s again. Sorry not much to say, just this: It’s fucking awesome!!! And for the end THE Psygone track. One of the best tracks ever made, Tasmania. A bit different from the rest, more complicated, atmospheric and even more powerful. Some of the best melodies of the whole album are here and some of the heaviest 303’s ever too. One of the classic Goa tracks, believe me. Overall? Well, just how I wrote in a topic I’ve made, Psygone’s individual ‘ingredients’ aren’t something awesome. I mean his melodies are great but they can’t be compared with Pleiadians or MFG, his tracks are crazy but not so mad as Transwave or Prana and so on… Then why Psygone kicks ass? First of all: this guy can give you so much energy with only a kick, a bass and some hi-hats, when other artists must use hundreds of sounds to achieve it. Second: he has maybe the best basslines of all Old-School artists and third: this is pure Goa, different and unique, this is MUSIC! If you don’t have it, get it now! 11/10 Fav:All

    FSOL - ISDN

Amazing album but I prefer Dead Cities and Lifeforms most. Best track EYES POP - SKIN EXPLODES - EVERYBODY DEAD!!!
  3. Ormion

    FSOL - Dead Cities

True The best FSOL album IMO. Max and Glass are awesome!!! 10/10
  4. Of course!!! Old School is THE maximal music! From the full-on acts only South African and 3D Vision are actually maximal.
  5. Damn you! I was ready to write a review myself! Yeah, this is a great compilation with some insane stuff! Best tracks are Xenomorph (the haunting melodies remind me a bit of Sandman-Nostradamus), Mubali vs oCeLoT (insane!!! one of the best I've heard this year) and Sequipa vs Baphomet Engine (a surprise track with mindblasting melodies!). The rest of the tracks are good too. 8-8.5/10
  6. Haha I was just ready to add it,since I'm listening to it right now. Amazing track and amazing compilation! Next I'll go for Mood Swinger, awesome!!!

    V/A-Urantia Rising

URANTIA RISING Sanskara 2004 TRACKLIST: Tundra-Fuzzy Logic Hydraglyph-Isis Crisis Corona-Modus Shift-Twilight Phyx-Silversurfer Artifakt-Left Foot Soundslut-Aural Sex Hydraglyph-Scarabs & Toast Link-Silicon Sun Style: Morning/Hard Full On This is the first release by Sanskara records based in South Africa introducing the well known SA artists like Shift,Phyx and Artifakt, some newcomers like Tundra and Corona and four tracks from Hydraglyph and other projects by them. The first track is by a new artist called Tundra, combining SA hard full on standards with more melodic, morning style. It’s a nice track with nice melodies and powerful bassline, nothing outstanding though. Next are Hydraglyph with Isis Crisis, a track that appears in the brand new Source comp. remixed by Shift. It has some very impressive fx, perfect for headphones and a powerful smashing bassline. The problem is that sometimes it becomes a bit too clubby for a SA style track. In the last minutes we get a sample from a popular latin track, funny moment but not great. Ok track. Another new group, Corona with the track Modus. Ok this is 100% Israeli morning full on. I normally dislike that style. I find it way too cheesy, clubby and uninspired, but that track is above average. The melodies are really colorful although a bit cheesy and the fx production better than most of the Israeli full on clones. A good track for morning parties. My fav artist follows.Chris Hoy with an another stomper. Typical Shift style, smashing beats, phat snares and hi-hats, twisting fx and cool melodies. Not that complex track like the ones in his album Excession but a very good tune, powerful and twisted. Another Timecode guy and again one of my heroes in the scene today, mr.Phyx. Hard full on beats with an industrial touch and superb production combined this time with really schizo melodies. Not his best tune but one of his best for sure. Another master of the genre and king of alternative full on, Artifakt with his smelly Left Foot. What a track! The kick is lighter than the usual and the gothic, dark melodies have given their place to some super emotional, beautiful morning ones, far away from the epic cheesyness of Astrix & co. Awesome track! Next is Soundslut project of Hydraglyph, kinda like track 2, a combination of SA hard style with the Israeli morning standards, kinda boring and simple but an ok party track I guess. The same goes for Scarabs & Toast, powerful bass and kick, some fx madness in the first minutes but too clubby for a SA artist. Last track is another one project of Hydraglyph. This time is 70% morning, clubby full on and 30% SA style but I have to admit that I liked this simplistic melody of this track.Ok track again for a party. Overall an ok-and above the average for sure-compilation with some great tracks from the Timecode crew (Shift,Phyx,Artifakt) and some nice ones from the rest. Nothing unique though. 6.5-7/10 Fav:4,5,6(!)
  9. Just a question: It's Snakey Shaker or Shakey Shaker? Cuase I think that the right one is the Snakey.
  10. Of course I agree with you. I'm just saying that Psyshop promotes everything in one or another way and not just this crappy full on. Every release according to the Psyshop comments is pure gold!
  11. LSD and Snakey Shaker. Hard to pick but LSD won
  12. Beatless Psy Ambient kick ass! It's the perfect kind of ambient to relax and travel. You juct close your eyes and go to another dimensions BTW my 3 fav beatless ambient tracks: FSOL-Domain LOS-Slime Into The Sound Optic Eye-Anacoluthon

    FSOL - Dead Cities

I only have Lifeforms from FSOL and yeah it kicks ass! But I always had a question. You say that it's an ambient album but 'We Have Explosive' ain't a dance track?

    Quadruped V.1

That's always puzzled me. The label is Ultimate,Planet Dog or both?

QUADRUPED V.1 Ulimate 1994 TRACKLIST: 1.Optic Eye-Aluf Null 2.Optic Eye-Star Mission 3.Optic Eye-Acid PH5 4.Active Loop Zone-Transambi 5.Active Loop Zone-How Do You Feel 6.Zuvuya-Away The Crow Road 7.Zuvuya-The Trance End Of Dreaming 8.Zuvuya-Turnaround 9.Children Of The Bong-Ionospheric State 10.Children Of The Bong-Ultrascope Style:Ambient/Downtempo Really old compilation from Ultimate with ambient and downtempo/midtempo and slow dance tracks from 4 UK groups. The best tracks are definitely by Optic Eye-Trower and Stephenson (RIP). They are not ambient and I love Jake’s ambient works but they’re great spacey, atmospheric, peaceful trance with trippy melodies. They have nothing to do with Jake later dance projects like Shamanic Tribes On Acid or Super Skunk. The best is Aluf Null which is the best of the whole comp. Active Loop Design tracks are very good downtempo/ambient tracks, atmospheric with nice percussion, remind me a bit the old Astralasia but not that great. Anyway they’re nice tracks and very trippy. Zuvuya tracks are the worst here. The music is good and really beautiful but the singing is awful and completely annoying. The worst is Turnaround and the best The Trance End Of Dreaming cause the singer’s voice is not too loud. Children Of The Bong tracks are both great. Beatiful ambient and really psychedelic. The production is awesome in both of the tracks, something really impressive for a 1994 compilation! Overall a nice cd from the old days and a great way to check Optic Eye. 6.5-7/10
  16. Anybody has listened Psychopod-Stop The Carnage?
  17. Oh, come on! Psyshop provotes everything because they only care to sell more cds (obviously). Check the comments in EVERY release. They're the same=Great release, awesome debut album and blah, blah whatever style the cd is.
  18. According to my playlist: Now: AP-Solid Electronics Next: MWNN-Lunar Cycle and next: Psygone-Equal Bottle Blows
  19. I guess it can, but not in a Goa way, you know with powerful melodies etc. The only minimal I like is some dark old tech stuff from Midi Miliz but I can't vote both for it. Of course I mean Dance music. Cause minimal, atmospheric ambient like Master Margherita or Ishq can be good!
  20. True. I just listen the samples and it's crap!
  21. Oh come on it's good. Dunno about the music though, what kind is it?
  22. Wow what a fight! I voted for Maximal, yout turn
