For me to date Juno Reactor and Uni are the only two I feel delivered a really good, vaguely actually live performance consistantly.

I actually had all the TIP stuff in the lot I got, but I wanted the other stuff and the TIP vinyl is all back in the US so I figured why not, the prices I paid for those individually was probably less than to ship my copies I have already from the US to Japan so... The Juno CD was the big cost item, the rest I got at some rather crazy prices.. Another case of a seller who doesn't know what he has meets no one in Japan buys vinyl anyways....

I had a good day at the auction yesterday. I won the following for just under $150 US total. Here is a zipped copy of my freeware vst folder I have for when I have to rebuild my computer. I recently updated it and most of the stuff from the KVR page is on here so you can download it all at once. I think its 147 megs total.

I've looked into this a lot as I originally came from the band/live performance side of music (went to a music school after H.S., helped build a recording studio, was active in live audio either through gigging or doing local roadie work for nearly ten years) and no-one EVER uses the word "live PA" in those circles and it started to really bug me a few years ago. It wasn't until I got into the electronic music scene where I discovered all kinds of standard music industry terms being complete misused. Live PA is just an incorrect bastardization of Live and P.A. (Public Address system, i.e. the big ass speakers you listen to the music on in clubs, at concerts, etc). Recently this idea that it means "Live Performing Act" and a hundred other similar permutations which no-one can agree on, has come up, but that is, in my opinion, just some term someone came up with when people outside the scene called the electronic scene on how "Live PA" is incorrect too many times. The fact that you've gotten about 5 different answers here alone would seem to bear that idea out. Anyways, "Live PA", together with how the term "producer" is completely misused in the electronic scene are probably two of my biggest pet peeves as a musician in this scene, but if those are my two biggest worries than I can't really be complaining about the state of my life can I? Final analysis Live PA = Live....

Funny that this got taken this far as I made the first post as a joke. Anywho, the "released in co-operation with TIP" was just a discogs listing thing. The Japanese versions say on them "TIP Records", the copyrights are TIP Records, etc. From my understanding the "Nippon Crown" bit was purely a business thing as when these were released it was difficult for a non-Japanese label of some minor underground dance music to get any real distribution in Japan at the time, so to work around that you just had a Japanese label print it for you. Matsuri did the same thing and I guess you could even say its still the same with Solistic releasing just about everyone's albums here with their own catalog number. I consider them alternate versions more than anything. Anywho, the whole discussion started a joke in the first place so....

The catalog numbers don't say TIP, but everyother detail on them says clearly TIP Records and if you look in the jacket of the "TIP The Story" double cd they are shown in with all the other TIP releases so it seems clear to me that the label in question considers them their own releases, which is good enough for me. But to each his own...

Same people, the only difference is the bookwork.

What about Clear (Mu), Purple and Red? (and Black too, although that is just Japanese version of Phosphorescent)

I haven't used FL Studio in awhile but I seem to recall this was something simple like making sure the resample box is properly checked or unchecked or somethign of that ilk in the sampler

I'm checking it out now and writing comments as I listen. Prettygood beginning. I also like the bass as well. The kick is perhaps a hair low or lacking oomfph for this style of psy, but that's a matter of taste. The drum sounds I like and the leads are pretty good. I like how a lot of the parts sort of swell in and out. About the only suggestion I might make would be to look into getting some more variation in your hi-hats, both pattern-wise and sound-wise. The hats here are not bad by anymeans. But they don't jump out at me and seem to just be "good enough" and not "great". That said, all and all great job here. I generally dig the flow of the track and don't see any particularly glaring problems.

I only listened to the full tracks here, but here are my thoughts as I listen on the fly... Matchu: Generally a good intro. I might have put some reverb on the solo kick thumps, but that's just me. I also think I hear some compression pumping at 1:34 when the crash comes in. I dig the old school nature of the sound selection in general. I swear I've heard some additional compression pumping a couple more times at various points. I dig the change up at 2:53 a lot here. 5 minutes in some of the leads here seem a bit buried in the mix. That is to say, the leads I'd like to hear more of seem a bit low, while others are definately fairly forward. I'm also starting to think the kick is a hair too heavy in the mix and one of the reasons for the pumping I am hearing every so often. The bass sound I wasn't to keen on at first, bit once the track gets going it fits in well. End result. I like a lot of the sounds and the general flow. If this were my track I'd take another shot at mixing it down. Ritual: I like this intro a lot more than the previous track. It seems to gel better for me. As was mentioned before, there seems to be some kick/bass mis-match. I used to (?) have a lot of trouble with getting my bass tuned in to my kicks as well, so I understand the difficultly here. 2:41 and I'm enjoying the sound-scapes. I nice mix of leads and just weird noises. The low end synth line here isn't exactly my thing, but taste is taste. The distorted flyby type stuff I really dig. The 4:13-ish clean high end synthline with the heavy delay I dig. 4:50-ish guitar part I'm not so sure about. One simple because i am leary of guitar parts and two because it is pretty buried in the mix. I might like it more if i could hear it more clearly. 6:01, things are moving along nicely here. Also I haven't noticed any compressor pumping on the mix in this track so I'm pretty sure it was a mixdown/mastering issue on the last track. From here on out I enjoyed the track a lot. I think this is the better of the two I listened to here. Ending thoughts: as was mentioned before, work on getting your kick and bass a bit more tuned into each other. I'd also work on fine tuning some levels of various parts during mixdown. Elsewise good work.

I dig the atmosphere here and generally everything about the track. The only small negative comment I can think of about it is that for some reason some of the mid-range seems a little strange on my speakers here. I can't really say how exactly, but its like I keep waiting for someone to turn the filter off? I think it related to the snare-ish banging sounds in particular. However outside of that, I pretty much like everything about this track. Definately the not-exactly-run-of-the-mill stuff I like to listen to these days. Keep it up!

Its my opinion that the "Check Out My Tracks" section is kind of in the wrong area depending on your purpose. pretty much the only people who come to the music making forum are people who are actually trying to make music, so the general music fan rarely, if ever gets to the "check out my tracks" forum at all. This is fine if you are only looking for other artists opinions, but if you want the general fans opinion, the forum doesn't do you much good. That said, its the same problem on Isratrance as well. There is just too much music by people you've never heard of to make checking it out worth the effort. I try and check stuff out from time to time, I don't have time to download, listen to and comment on every single track that gets put up between the two forums, even though I'd really like to.

I'd throw my vote in for Eat Static - Science Of The Gods as well.

For me a 10/10 isn't about not having every second perfect (not possible), but rather about being an album that I will listen to and enjoy from front to back for most likely the rest of my life. In that regard it is hard for me to say whether anything released in the last couple will stand the test of time, but for me my classic albums would probably me... Hallucinogen - The Lone Deranger Shpongle - Are You Shpongled Cosmosis - Synergy X-Dream - Radio Infected Mushroom - B.P.Empire Hallucinogen - Twisted Juno Reactor - Bible of Dreams Infected Mushroom - Classical Mushroom Of more recent vintage the ones that look like they will probably stand the test of time for me are... Psysex - Hardcore Blastoff Younger Brother - A Flock Of Bleeps Psysex - Come In Peace Vibrasphere - Lime Structure As for classic tracks that is a whole different discussion, but for albums these are the ones that come to mind for me.

Also keep in mind a number of the labels on that list probably aren't even active anymore since this list goes back a number of years for everything they've ever stocked (unless they've gotten around to trimming the list, but it doesn't look like it)

devious- There is a certain record shop (not the "Vital" one) in downtown Minneapolis you should check out occassionally as awhile ago they bought out the entire back stock of one of the biggest dance music distributors in the US. I was talking to the people that worked there and they had bought literally several semi-truck trailers full of music and could only bring in a bit at a time (a few boxes a month). Right before I left I went in and cleaned them out, but they still had several trucks worth they hadn't even started on yet then and they had some major deals. Brand new Blueroom, Matsuri, Transient, Spirit Zone etc for like $4-8 USD a CD. Considering we can count the number of frequent goa/psy shoppers in Minnesota on one hand I think you should go hunting sometime if you haven't already.
