ok i have money for about 4 new cds which should i get? i think i'll get vibrasphere - archipelago. what else? i was thinking 2 goa (or maybe 1 goa 1 suomi) and 2 prog releases. any recommendations?

usb and firewire are different interfaces with different connection. you should check whether you have firewire on your laptop since it's not that common yet. usb uses more cpu, but it's not something you'll notice imho. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Serial_Bus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FireWire

really? because throughout the entire thread you are claiming you can do stuff with analog and not with digital, and not vice versa.

who the fuck cares if analog is better than digital? they're different. not better. different. so who said analog is better? and yes - i've heard both. the possibilites you can get with digital are so much larger than with analog. 101 or 303 sounds cool? so is z3ta or vanguard! the so called "warmth" is actually the analog signal being not so stable in contrast to the early digital synths which were so limited which caused them to sound dead. but now the digital synths have so many options to make them warm - maybe it's not the instability but it's something else. so stfu and make music instead of arguing which is better - digital or analog.

also try connecting something else to your speakers - that is not your computer. a tv, or stereo system. see if the problem is still there.

play just a plain wav file. then in your player (winamp, or whatever) change the output settings to different drivers. try using the asio, then directplay, then mme. see if that changes anything. if not - then it's not a driver problem imo, although asio4all sucks.

i don't see the problem with firewire motu traveler/ultralite or rme ff 400/800 would be the choice imo
