  1. Congrats! I'm not really fond of that koxbox myself. Far far from their earlier releases. I see it from time to time in 2nd hand bins in Copenhagen, but've never bothered purchasing it. Off course I ought to for trading purposes, but you know ... Anyway, our styles differ here & there, Artur. I can't stand Stormy Monday. Actually just put in my review of the album on discogs. Don't know if it's been approved yet, but you can see it still if you want with the link at the bottom. Nope, that cd is a no no for me. Hate the sample in Stormy Monday. And other people like the track because of the sample. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. You should put in your comment on it in discogs!!
  2. Yeah, I feared that. Reviews haven't been too good. Well, I'll remember to check. But you know how it is. When the first album is this good, you really wanna give the next a shot. But I'll try to stay critical when listening to the samples. Saw you were outbid on the TIP Too bad. But yeah, I think you got out about the right time. It'll go for less than 30 usd at some point. Patience is the keyword. But off course then we may clash again ... I got the Cosmology. That is, a friend of mine bid for me (long story). Getting it for some 18 usd + freight. That's nice. The last Cosmosis I needed. Now I'm selling Trancendance. Can't stand it. Uh oh ... off topic
  3. How could I forget Rinkadink Beatiful track and couldn't agree with you more. It's done to perfection there. But then, Rinkadink's Rabbit side probably is the one record I listen to the mosten times these days. I love it. Gotta get hold of his last soon. Anyway, yep, he's too talented to fuck modulation up.
  4. I'm happy thanks Got it on this over ebay for 5 usd plus 5 usd freight. Sometimes the system works ...
  5. The Delta - As a child I could walk on the ceiling.
  6. Oh, it's gotta be good ... Well ...
  7. I guess this sort of is pretty fucking looong 639 years
  8. Yeah, I should have listed examples. Well, Oforias Deliveriuos is packed with modulation. First track maximiser at 4:11. Horrible. Or next track Cream 4:42. Pukeable! On Filteria there's Mind Expansion at 7:08 and throughout. And other examples, I'm afraid. That could be an idea. To list the most horrible example. Well, then I have to choose Oforia, Cream. How happy can you get, Ofer?
  9. Got the Panoramic pack from Ultimae clicky 132 euro for 12 albums of ambient tales .... The splendor. The tranquility. The packages and the design ...
  10. So, under Filteria's Heliopolis the classic topic has been debated. Is use of modulation / keychange cheesy or is it? I gotta say, Filteria's use of modulation on Heliopolis ruins a couple of the tracks for me. Others love them and want more. I've tried referring them to the Eurovision Song Contest. They've responded by calling me an ignorant goofhead, that holds the development of psytrance back. Skelly can hardly do that by himself but what's the general idea of modulation / keychange. Oh, let me say there's a little uncertainty whether modulation and keychange is the same. Wikipedia has something on it. Until corrected I believe it's the same. Anyway, I'm sure this hasn't been debated a thousand times. So let's do it again What do you think? Is modulation cheesy or is it ? Btw, I believe the DP may copypaste some offtopic entries from Heliopolis here. Anyway, here's making way for them.
  11. Cosmosis - Trancendance. Nice but his samples annoys me. Arh fuck me, I'm so picky ...
  12. I stand corrected Thanks Jannis! Just for the full understanding of it, can you give me an example from your albums where you use modulation as opposed to keychange? And yeah I can see this should be in a separate general topic. But let me just for the record here finish with - and I am in no way retracting what I've said earlier - that I enjoy both your albums! There's up and downs with respect to them meeting my taste, but you got a hell of a nice angle going. Hopefully your music and my taste will meet on day I still keep the faith & your next album will still be ordered no matter what Anyway, sorry, no more rambling about keychange and modulation here. I'll make a separate topic about keychange in the general section. And if the DP can move the superflous inputs here over there, I'd be real ... with it
  13. And just for the record. The modulation in Rotate To Vibrate at 4:58 sounds so cheesy in my ears it's almost a joke. ALMOST. But it ruins the track for me since it both sounds horrible AND makes it impossible for me to enjoy the rest of the track as I constantly worry the next double cheese bacon sandwich with cheese topping will be forced down my throath. ... wait, that was the track you liked ...!! okay, i'm hearing Mind Expansion now ... No comment
  14. Haha, Hi Artur, You know, I was just about to mention that example since off hand I can't remember another track where it's executed like that. But yeah, I fully agree. I don't categorically hate modulation. I just wrote that to annoy whoever said people who don't like modulations are goofheads. Okay, I'm a goofhead then My problem with modulation is, that when you actually notice it AS modulation, it's because it resembles the prototypical Eurovison Song Contest entry. Okay, everybody happy? Yeah?! Alright, we do the chorus once more, but one note higher!! How creative!! How innovative! Modulation has the exact same problem in trance, in my view, when the modulation is noticeable like that. It can be executed nicely as you say. In the Cosmosis track the modulation doesn't stick out as modulation. It's just a nice keychange. The trick here is that the leading instruments (as far as I can tell) changes key in each direction (5:34), so I feel it's the mood of the track that changes. Not there entire arrangement. Also at 6:03 the lead changes key, but the bass stays in the same note. Awesome track Inner Space btw!! And the bass modulates at 6:32 but the rest stays in place. I don't know. It works for me here. It doesn't sound corny. But off course, hey, modulating all instruments is done in Eurovision because it gives point. So naturally there's gonna be a couple of modulation followers within psy as well. Just count Skelly out. (not to say MODULATION IS bad taste, off course )
  15. Label: Dooflex Catalog#: DFXCD02 Format: CD Country: Israel Released: 16 Jun 2005 Tracklisting 1 Funky Ass (8:32) 2 There Is Only One (7:56) 3 Deep Hop Forest (6:26) 4 Dance Electric (7:23) 5 Flying Tepy (7:59) 6 Switch Off (7:42) 7 Navigation (7:26) 8 Whoops (7:08) 9 Banana Bill (8:20) 10 Let's Dance (6:09) The definition of cheese ...? I don't think you NEED to be wasted to enjoy this album. It just helps. I reckon this does land within the psytrance genre, but at the same time this album represents an astonishing blend of nearly all the very characteristicas I hate within a genre I otherwise love. Track 1 Funky Ass - even the title is hideous - is a splendid example. Samples like "Ladies and Genlemen", "Check this out", or "Okay, party in da house"(!!) haunts this track from beginning to end. Horrible! And that's before I notice the music which, in parts, actually rolls along decently. Still from the beginning I have the sensational feeling that inevitably this will apply one of those small, fatal details that turns okay to disposable. Like from 2:22. Okay beat, but then the bass does this prototypical euro-trance fuck-up at 2:28 and 2:35. It lasts a second each time, but nevertheless I KNOW right there and then that I will never be able to let this music take me anywhere. My distrust by now is too blatant. And if I wasn't sure already the Scooter euro-trance anthem surfacing from 3:48 pushes me over the edge. At 4:05 the anthem becomes almost laughable, if it wasn't so scarily present. Halfways through (4:18) there's even a sample pronouncing "Once again" before the anthem is repeated. Are you kidding me? Or the bass playing solo from 5:13 to 5:26 with the happy melody return at 5:18. Somebody please shoot me! And let me not start on the guitar sounds and modulation applied on this album. Honestly, I didn't set out on purpose to bash this album. Quite the contrary I wanted to trace the good parts. The problem is, it isn't bad enough to be fun, and at the same time no way near decent enough to be trustworthy. Which is a shame because parts of the album (not counting track 1 - basically nothing works here) are okay. Track 2 "There is only one" from 4:07 runs real nice. Hell, loose the samples and it's Rinkadink'ish level, but it's impossible for me to give in to the music because I constantly fear something stupid will enter. And it never fails; a dumb break (4:58) or a meaningless sample (5:06) forcing me everytime to rebuild my mood all over. If you're into Scooter, eurotrance and the like, this might provide an introductory step to psytrance, though. You get some easy digestable melodies, breaks you never doubt are breaks, wall 2 wall full-on bass lines, and an overly impressive line-up of immensely corny party samples. To briefcase the Shakesperian level here and my personal favorite: Every motherfucker, hands up (Deep Hop Forest 0:24). Nuff said ...
  16. My main gripe with this album is its overall commercial approach. This sounds like something a 1000 other artists could have released and has absolutely NO personality. Full-on bassline, some FX, a happy club-trance minded theme, break here and there, and back on track. Yawn ! Strangely enough, after eight similar, boring tracks, closing track Substance enters with far more edge. Still a full-on track, this seems far less eager to be deciphered, is less predictable, more relentless and with its monotony comes with more edge than the former 8 tracks together.
  17. The Emperor's new clothes ? Listening to a record like this I can't help thinking whether the psytrance community is kidding itself. Is this good?! Infinitely far away from the midnineties psychedelic trance/dance music this type of music stems from, it's possible to love the forer genre and hate the latter. Or vice versa. No straight forward melodies. No easy recognizable themes to associate with each track. No straight, full-on dancing codes to decipher. Just relentless sound attacks, dark monotonous basses, creepy samples, disturbing moods. Psytrance's equivalent to death metal. How is this enjoyable? Well, I believe two things are given. Firstly, this music only comes to its fullest potential when experienced at a festival/party. This has to be played LOUD on high-end equipment. Secondly, it has to be played at the right hour when I'm ready for tricky, hard digestable, highly psychedelic, multi-layered, aggressive music. At the wrong hour, it might make me wanna elope the party all toghether. But then this music could supply the ticket to psychedelic Nirvana. And the recipe I would prefer for this trip is firstly Ka-Sol's Just Another Riot. The bass here is like hardly anything else around, the sounds creepy and scary, the track constantly developing and changing, the mood infinitely deep, disturbing, scary, and psychedelic. Or Zalabim's Jiggsaw Tonic setting out with a scared girl's voice. If you want to try this on psychedelics, you better be among friends to supply warmth and comfortability! When you are able to follow a track like this through all the way, you may come out a changed person. Likewise something like Traskel's Unknown Speaker could change your perspective on life and reality. Picking a track, though, is hardly worth the effort. All tracks here provide the same type of musical experience, and if you're able to get on the boat, what at first may seem as a less appealing track, may prove in the end to be the most rewarding one. Grading this album is therefore almost futile to me. At the right moment this could be THE 6/5 star album if there ever was one. At the wrong hour I could angrily pronounce this to be the most shitty and reserved music ever to have been published. In a close battle with Derango's Tumult. The Emperor's new clothes or not, it surely makes you take a stand. Still, my stand for now has to be "well, ...".
  18. You want to debate taste mkay, I go first. I hate HATE HATE modulation. Now you go ...
  19. Written on reefer ?!? Sounds interesting though
  20. Label: Suntrip Records Catalog#: SUNCD05 Format: Jewelcase Country: Belgium Released: 12 May 2006 Tracklist: 1 Tecmorning (8:58) 2 Blogz (8:54) 3 Shlumpen (8:09) 4 Skreno (7:37) 5 Back Basic (Goa Mix) (7:57) 6 Matrix Remix (8:57) 7 No Return (9:09) 8 Sticky Web (7:58) 9 White Magic (8:04) 10 The Light (8:04) This surely is the noisiest release from Suntrip so far, even if it gets gradually more accessible through the album. While the first 3 tracks are less devastatingly dark than, say, the Sanantonic Audio release or Derango's Tumult, they're still pretty fucking far from easy listening! Perhaps coinable as some sort of commercial forest psytrance, this is multi-layered, complex, attacking psytrance. And hardly with any theme safely to return to, you gotta love complex psytrance compositions to get the full benefits of this part of the album. On the other hand, if you are able to go all in, this part may reward you generously. Even I can tell it's done in a clever way. To me, however, this album doesn't really open up until track 4 Skreno. A catchy bass line shoots this track off building gradually until midways when a high pitch lead takes over the stage. Again, you gotta go ALL in to get this, or it may come across as cheesy. Ka-Sol even applies modulation. Well, to my dismay modulation is actually used throughout the album ruining a couple of moments for me. But if you don't mind modulation, this may just as well add a star in your book. Anyway, by now things have taken a turn for the better. Back Basis (Goa mix) is a mean party-stomper embracing the New Skool Goa sound Suntrip is famous for. Think Filteria less 50 peaks. A strong track for the floors. And so it seems the 2nd part of the album sticks closer to the Suntrip tradition. Hearing No Return you can hardly tell it's the same album you set out with! Melodic and trippy, this track retains its momentum, until 5:24 when Ka-Sol unleases his powers. This has GOT to set the floors on fire! Sticky Web follows up with another head-on psychedelic monster. Again, think Filteria, but without the relentness. Sweet, sweet track. Hm, what is one to conclude here? There's good and bad this time around. On the down side this album seems somewhat incoherent. It sets off with border forest trance and ends with New Skool goa. On the plus side this means more variety. In any case, Ka-Sol represents a more challenging type of psytrance and followers of Suntrip may need to adjust their ears to get the full impact of this release. I know I am. The Suntrip trademarks are still here, though. No-bullshit, head-on dancemusic for the height of the night, 2006 production with a twist of Goa fascination, and a hell of a lotta testoterone. Still, if you wanna find out what the hype around Suntrip is about, I suggest to check the Apsara compilation first. This also contains an excellent Ka-Sol track. One last comment. I DO like the cover picture, but what's up with the white squares? A friend said he thought it looked like a photoshop error. I'm inclined to agree with him. It looks weird. But I like that Suntrip tries something new. Not overly happy with the execution though.
  21. I'm looking to trade my A Miracle Summer Breeze http://www.discogs.com/release/179073 for his psychaos. The Miracle doesn't really rock my boat, and Psychaos always seems to. Well, how is it? btw, saw you've been getting some bargains on ebay lately. TIP orange and blue comp for, what, 20 - 25 usd in total or something? Very good prices anyway. The blue is up in some 20 gbp on an auction going on right now.
  22. Damnit, did you get this from Jooloos by any chance ? I got Jaia - blue energy - blue synergy last Friday http://www.discogs.com/release/184150
  23. 110 pct psychedelic trance Nah, guess 40 pct progressive, 30 pct psychedelic, 20 pct ambient, 10 misc. I have a good taste in music
  24. Just having reheard, intense, and reviewed a 2004 full-on psytrance compilation (All Systems Go, Exposure Productions), it's amazing how well and up to date this 2002 progressive trance release comes across Even the weeniest song has something to say here. Dark, tranqualizing, intense, early Digital Structures kept a mean bass, tribal influences, and a sinister approach tight as a fuck up a squirrel's ass. Why make it more complicated than it has to be?! That's the beauty of progressive psytrance over full-on. The simplicity makes it last so much longer. But off course, the real problems doesn't start here until Wizzy Noise comes on with Prototype. An 8:31 minute long starrider when Ticon and Mr. Leatherman takes over. Oh, this album picks up the end ...
