EP - I highly doubt these guys got together and said, "Lets make some crap music so we can make some money." I'd give them a little more credit than that, or more benefit of the doubt. What if they were just trying to have some fun, without taking life so seriously or cynically? It could happen.

Rotorblade (Beyond the Infinite album) has some metal guitar-ish sounds in it.

From what I've seen, Montreal has one of the best scenes in North America, along with NYC and San Fran.

I get frustrated when I see electronic acts making up stuff to do on top of all the sequenced/pre-recorded stuff. That to me is worse than nothing at all. I mean, twiddling knobs all night on a mixer or playing a simple melody while the other melodies are complicated as hell - that's just outright fraud in my opinion. I bow deeply to those who can perform live and do it well. I'd like to be optimistic and think that we're at a very early time in this music's evolution where we still haven't figured out how to perform it, and that, given 20 or 30 years, live acts will become a lot more live than they are now. The other side of the coin is that live performance is heading in the direction of mechanized industry, where soon the people actually pushing "Play" on their sequences will become obsolete (although there'll have to be a guy in the back room somewhere making sure all the machinery is in working order).

Cool auryn, thanks!

Very funny. I deserve that. Nah, although Out of Sight is a great album (and in my opinion is the best production I've ever heard in the genre) it's not very electro sounding. But I appreciate the effort.

I really like that clean electro-crispiness on Genetic's "Motion Picture" album. Anyone have any suggestions as to similar stuff? Doesn't have to be trance, just has to be similarly crunchy with a smattering of smooth. Thanks.

Juno Reactor - Children of the Night

These were left out: The Delta - Scizoeffective (a masterpiece) Authentik - Preamplified (first half of album; original sound but very repetetive) To a somewhat lesser degree, but still tech-trance oriented: C.O.P. - Urban Alien (also a masterpiece; tech with added mega soundwork) Organic Noise - Vacuum Tube (kinda boring and flat in comparison) Take a look at the d.drum and Iboga labels.

If you read the artist interviews, you'll find that many if not most artists have been inspired by Juno Reactor, and also say that they'd love to work with him. That's saying a lot, I think. If nothing else, it says that a good portion of the scene has been inspired by, and thus originated with, Juno Reactor. That's a big deal, and in my opinion enough to qualify Juno as a psychedelic artist.

I'm certainly in no "scene" unless you include this forum. I'm essentially on my own and kind of like it that way. I've been to one show - Juno Reactor and Medicine Drum - and have met only one other person locally who likes the stuff. That said, the music is fulfilling enough to be a portion of my personal identity. It's synergistic in that I feel I was born wired to enjoy this music (like some people are born wired to enjoy an excess of a certain kind of drug), and the music entails a sort of neo-hippiness that agrees with my ideology. So I found the music just as much as the music found me - there's little separation; square block in a square hole.

I really enjoy Parasense's sound. Hard and crinkly and original.

I find that sometimes it's a good idea to take a break from things to really appreciate them. I know it's not a pretty example, but take masturbation (I know you all do it): If you do it every day, it becomes boring. But give it a week or even two, then good jesus will the experience be amazing. Hehe. I'm serious!

Yeah, I don't like it either. The only good part in my opinion is the poem in the beginning. In fact I've memorized it. "You are ill, Davis, ill in mind..." That man's voice is incredible. P.S. There is one line that I've never understood, though, and would love if someone knew what he was saying: "...small tongues of fungus that shall thicken and swell and choke you while ___ ___ ___ ___ ___."

stringtheory - You must get copies of Juno's older stuff. Nothing compares to them. Shango is probably the most commercial sounding of the four albums. I know that we all have different preferences, but in my opinion Transmissions is the best, followed by Bible of Dreams. There are a few tracks on Beyond the Infinite that will blow you away - as Bahamut mentioned, try Rotorblade. Killer track. Doesn't get much better.

Good one, phaeton. Very true about Ubar Tmar. May I also add Dragon Tales-era Koxbox. Sad they've lost that sound.
-
Let me also add Etnica's Equator.

The music that really turned me on to Psytrance was the stuff I felt was "epic" (hence my nickname). It was the stuff that was just as much for listening as for dancing. It's powerful, yet tells a story in a way, through one song or through an album. Yeah, Pleiadians was the first stuff I found to really take me on a journey (Asterope is the king of epic tracks, in my opinion). Here are a few other acts I find to be more or less epic: UX and Slide Colorbox and Bypass Unit ("Train to..." and "Dropz of...") Spirallianz/Midimiliz and Delta Juno Reactor Children of Paradise X-Dream Wizzy Noise (to a slightly lesser extent)

where to print backdrops if you're a painter yourself...?
Otto Matta replied to a topic in General Psytrance
Or maybe ask a standard print shop where large scale textile printing is done. -

Perhaps contacting a t-shirt maker might be a good idea. They probably don't do it but maybe they know who does. -
Listened to Abra. To me it has a slowish, reggae-dub influence. I'm not an expert, but you may want to look into stuff like Dub Trees and other dub stuff. Orb, maybe?
