There appear to be several sub-genres of ambient music, not all of which are to everybody's tastes (most will like one or two a lot, the others not at all). The major sub-genres I've experienced are: 1. Psy-ambient/Chill-out: Dub/reggae/world-influenced electronica. 2. Space Ambient: Lush atmospheres with little or no beats. 3. Minimal Ambient: Highly synthetic blips, beeps and beats. 4. IDM: Synthetic, full sound, lots of rhythm. 5. Future-jazz/lounge: Ambient with a jazzy twist. 6. Dark Ambient: A combination between 1. and 2. but dark. My personal recommendations in these fuzzy categories: 1. I'm not a specialist or a fan in this one. Orb is popular and was one of the pioneers of the genre. Check the reviews here. 2. Pete Namlook (and friends), Tetsu Inoue, Biosphere, Ashera, Brian Eno 3. shuttle358, Arovane, Sogar 4. Plaid, Boards of Canada, Bola, Orbital, Global Goon 5. Not an expert. Highly recommend Fognode. 6. Robert Rich, Vidna Obmana

Very cool stuff, llazi. Tasteful and simple, yet interesting and provocative. Others should take notes, IMO.

Children - I'll re-ask dE-feCT's question, since it got lost up there: Can one submit more than one cover?

"I'm sure there is going to be one unpleasant surprise before we are done." Tarsis - Deadly Deep Kickin' from the album, Melt.

I will pay $50.01 For This.

In this case it appears two topics were removed, in which case the 10 replies refers to the "Insane Full-On" post two above yours.

Sometimes an untasteful post is removed by the forum moderator, which screws up the numbers of post replies. Most likely the 10 replies was for the post right above yours.

Great, Mike D. Way to communicate with the forners. I've spoken English since Day One and I don't know what the words "lnow," "is heaps" or "tpalces" mean. Marcelo, hang out here and make yourself comfortable. You'll very quickly learn what's going on in the psytrance scene.

You've never been to the 50th floor have you Mr. Indidginus? If you had, you'd see something like this: Need I say more? Flooooooooooooooohahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Claire

I'm for it. But I think that, although Elementa has a clever plan about reusing the old cover with different colors, lots of people here are having fun participating in a cover design contest, especially if - [ahem] - they know they're going to lose the music contest, or don't have a track in at all but still want to participate.

Mike - As your elite typing instructor, Claire Henderson, I hereby fail you in your typing test. You forgot the critical yet most charming letters "q," "c," and "k." Please report to Typing Administration on the 46th floor, room 4692b for your lashings.

I've spent a good while developing a compilation for a buddy of mine and I'd like to share it with you in hopes of gaining your expert feedback. I normally wouldn't ask for your opinions on this sort of thing, but I want this one to be really good. It contains a number of my favorite tracks but also has to contain tracks I know my friend doesn't have. I didn't want to pull any punches or start nice and easy and build from there like I usually do, but instead start big and get bigger but with a logical flow. So here it is - I'm open to opinions: 1. Haldolium - Nega.tif 2. Bypass Unit - Liquid Prisma 3. Cydonia - Columbian Necktie 4. Etnica - Small Doses 5. X-Dream - Coming Soon 6. Tim Schuldt - Ohm Shiva 7. Noosphere - Paradigma 8. The Delta - Def by Delta (Part 2) Thanks! EA

These give me amazing visions: Colorbox - Greenious Bypass Unit - Liquid Prisma Both are for me long adventures in big shapeshifting sound.
-
This is the same message with the right hand: "j;lj;lkj" Rera - It works! Now ask a question.
-
I was completely blown away - again - by Bypass Unit's Spectral Collapse and Liquid Prisma. Had been a while.

Yeah, Psynews 2 is good!

"Syn" (as in "Synesthetic") and "Psy" have different pronunciations, which makes this name awkward, in my opinion. But I'm all for a quick fix. I've been designing way too much for failed comp names. I was a fan of Incoming Intruders, despite its own sort of silliness. "Tech Tonic" and "Synth Aesthetic" were other creations of mine that I liked. But hey, that's just me. EA

Nicely put, JanUa. -
...Featuring the track "You don't know me! You don't know me! Yeah, I used him to get a car and some jewelery. So? Yeah, I cheated on him with a girl! So? Yeah, I'm really a man - but I'm a girl on the inside. So? (Naaaaw you di-int! Talk to the hand! Talk to the hand! Remix)

Listen, friend: Next time you want to post porn around here, even Japanese animated port, please make it bigger.

"Psychedelic Circus," without the "The," to match "Psychedelic Sparks." We need consistency. Would also be better from a marketing standpoint at Inpsyde.

fuzzhead - Saikosounds sells a little bit of that stuff. Otherwise, look hard around the net. Some of it is very difficult to find since the releases tend to be limited. Here are some suggestions: Check out Namlook's FAX label: http://music.hyperreal.org/labels/fax This place has a crap-load of Namlook-related info: http://www.2350.org Listen: http://www.emusic.com/labels/150 Buy: http://www.babaluba.tierranet.com/newfax.mv (Baba Luba is a very friendly and helpful guy - he'll even give you recommendations if you ask - though his ordering system is a little bit difficult.) Good luck. EA

I personally like music that's written by white people. But thanks anyway.

Sometime between v. 15 and v. 17 would be my guess.

Too bad you'll miss TRS-80. Great show. Keep an eye out for them - they're from Chicago and play here every once in a while. Robert Rich is one of the top three or so ambient maestros on the scene. His first albums from 10+ years ago were light and new agey (like a lot of the ambient from that time), but he evolved a very conceptual, very dark and very atmospheric style. Many consider "A Troubled Resting Place" to be his best, if you're curious. He just released one called Bestiary that is somewhat less organic and more electronic than usual, but still maintains that classic Rich atmosphere. Yeah, let's talk about it soon.
