    The Room

I went through a bunch of those clips, too, and it does look like a bunch of fun. I'd love to be in the theater with a bunch of people who knew the lines, like in the middle of this clip:
  2. Both equally. I didn't find Lucy Liu hot until Kill Bill. Yeah, not in Ally McBeal somehow. But oh man... Hot.

    Sci-Fi Movies

My top five: 1. Stalker (not on list!) 2. Solaris 3. Blade Runner 4. Close Encounters of the Third Kind 5. Star Wars IV Others not included: Tron The Black Hole (a sentimental favorite of mine - must be cult at this point) E.T. A.I. Contact Communion A Clockwork Orange And a whole shitload of animated stuff like La planète sauvage, Heavy Metal and Vexille, but that's probably not the point.
  4. Here. Edit: And a bunch of tech house mixes too. Good stuff. Sorry if this has been mentioned before.
  5. He contributed to the rift between mind and body - spirituality and materialism - forcing individuals in the Western world to affiliate with either one or the other when both are required for healthy, constructive thinking, not only for individuals but for societies in general.
  6. Yes! My sentimental favorite is Goa-Head 7. Also Tales from the Dark Forest.
  7. Of course we know all the circumstances, for there are only two: one's structure and one's environment, both of which are entirely apparent and touchable, necessarily. "Choice" is superfluous and can very easily be discarded by basic reason alone. Only the fearful and indoctrinated cling to superstition, whereas one would find oneself vastly more enriched by metaphor and poetry.
  8. LOL at including Tarsis. Stupid argument in a thread about a funny video.
  9. I disagree. Determinism is realistic, unlike the superstition of choice-making.
  10. Casino Versus Japan Isan Arovane Plaid (early) Boards of Canada (early) Freescha Murcof (early)
  11. Hey there. I think you have the right to be excited. The music is uplifting, inspired and of high quality. Lots of interesting things going on. That's on a more objective level. In my more subjective opinion, and to answer your question, no, I don't think it's totally fresh and, if I understand your intention with that phrase, I think you're going to have to do something much more radical to achieve total freshness. Even more subjectively, I find the music very noisy, not unlike much of the newer psychedelic trance music of recent years. It trades in elegance for complexity, which for me is rarely a good thing, historically, although many would disagree. I sense you have the ability to be totally fresh if your really let yourself, I just don't hear it with this particular offering. Hope that's helpful.
  12. Descartes can suck my ass for what he did to the Western world.
  13. Ugh, not a fan of that drill aesthetic. Murphy, if you like this you'd like The Flashbulb (and Squarepusher, although I assume you've heard his stuff by now). You're welcome.
  14. I haven't visited recently, but they have their act together, and have created a very nice corner for themselves with a nice aesthetic. The only music I really liked from them was Extrawelt, but that may have changed since then.

    Brüno?

    What's a "nitch"?
  16. The darkest ambient music I've heard - in a genuine way, not a scary-scary-dark-for-the-sake-of-it, and I've heard a whole bunch of Rich and Obmana, et al. - would be Woob. Maybe it's just me, but there seems to be a real combination of emotion and creativity there that sends chills up my spine.
  17. I don't find the pace hard to dance to (I actually enjoy it), more that the music has to have certain qualities - certain structures, tones, layering, drive, modes, building grooves, few breaks, etc. - to manipulate my body. A small percentage of the psytrance I've heard has been able to do this the way I like, but when it does it's a lot of fun. I don't really have solid suggestions for slower stuff. Some techy house stuff comes to mind, like Trentemoller, John Tejada and those guys. Extrawelt, maybe?
  18. Good point about American Psycho. I personally think the book was better for several reasons (realization of concept, humor, detail...), but the movie added value of its own. Movies better than the books: Blade Runner <-> Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Stalker <-> Roadside Picnic I'm curious what the movie for Youth in Revolt will be like. Hard to compete with the book.
  19. Seems that most anime has the same formula, which is disappointing, but I still love a good series. My favorites so far have been: 1. Last Exile ***** 2. Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo ***** 3. Avatar: The Last Airbender ****1/2 4. Death Note ****1/2 5. Ergo Proxy ****1/2 6. Afro Samurai ****1/2 7. Planetes ****
  20. I disagree. There were other forces at work at the time to take Goa trance into a more minimalistic vein. Radio seems to get blamed because it was more present in comparison to others. Planet B.E.N.'s Trippy Future Garden, for instance, was released two years earlier.

    Stalker

Finished Roadside Picnic a few weeks ago. It was okay. The film is much, much better, I think. Stalker is far more subtle and profound than the "reality" of the book, upon which it was based. Still a recommended read, especially for those who haven't seen Tarkovsky's film.
