Hesse's Siddhartha is probably the only book I've read more than twice, although I've read a lot of books twice. I think I read Delany's Nova three times. Have plans to read several books again, including The Count of Monte Cristo, which was sheer awesomeness.

I discovered that recently myself, digging back into his stuff this last winter. I find I like the concept of his work more than the music itself. Much of it is between boring and unlistenable to me. But yeah, Ambient 4 is truly remarkable, all things considered.

Don Quixote, although written over 400 years ago, reads like it was written yesterday, and is highly entertaining. Totally recommended. But yeah, stuff like Shakespeare I have a very hard time with.

Totally agree. Although I personally am engaged by the music in On Land, even though I realize that was not by his own definition his intention.

I've read many of Eiseley's books and they are all refreshingly timeless. Unexpected Universe is a nice start.

Pretty much anything by Joseph Campbell or Loren Eiseley.

I've personally enjoyed the Suction stuff the most: Solvent, Lowfish, Skanfrom and those guys, with that dry, tweaky modular sound.

Yeah, fun, quirky, unexpected. Definitely worth the watch.

Lots of information there, my friend. I also saw the PBS interview with Campbell, and was changed by it. Brilliant man. And I've read almost all of Vonnegut's books, starting with Galapagos which remains my favorite, which is why I liked your name. But I haven't seen the Breakfast of Champions movie, so I'm putting it at the top of my list. I appreciate the tip.

Great book. Not as difficult as his other stuff. And the movie, I found, actually does the book justice.

A quick check shows that kilgoretrout (cool name BTW!) is far from the first to recognize Campbell as a source in the movie's story. Even less surprising when one knows that Campbell was a major inspiration to Lucas when making Star Wars.

I was looking for one of those not too long ago and I came up with nothing. I was surprised that there was nothing good even on the quality sample sites. Then I realized I had made a decent surf recording of my own with kids playing instead of seagulls and used that instead. Strange, though, I would've thought that a good surf/seagull sample would be widely available. I reckon wind distortion keeps a lot of recordings from getting out there.

Fascinating. My process is strictly anti-cat. Not because I dislike the species, but, rather, because I find them to be very selfish with their part of the creativity, and they find subtle ways to cause havoc in my home if I revise their contributions even a little. So I've set up an electrical perimeter around my studio to keep them out of the process altogether. Still, they find ways in, mostly psychical ones, and with background noise that confuses my secretary.

I have nubs for hands, so I hire a secretary to transcribe my notes which I speak into a recorder with a monotone robot voice from the device attached to my larynx because I smoke too much. She gets confused sometimes and thinks I'm trying to do beatless electro a capella with vocoder only, but although I'm not fond of her old-lady perfume, I love the way she jiggles when she inputs automation data, so I keep her. Some things I do with my feet, like tremolo and wah-wah. Standard stuff.

I've liked a few of their releases. CBL, for one, and their Fahrenheit compilations. The other artist releases have been a big yawnfest for me, although I tried to like them. Highly engineered, highly polished yawn music.
