  1. Is it possible that it's necessary to state that at least the major sounds, as opposed to general atmosphere and some minor rhythmic elements, should have their own frequency lane? Thing is, I've looked into it a little and I've encountered the same thing said by many well-known sound engineers and producers. I mean, I know there's some gray area regarding this rule, but it sure is mentioned a lot for it to not be a standard method. One also hears that the sounds in the upper frequency are not as vital in this respect, and that panning can solve a lot of crowding issues up top. Can't one also use these lanes creatively to achieve the "balance" you mentioned? I'm actually really curious, Colin, since as you know I'm trying to mix an album for the first time.
  2. Yes, "ohm" and "om" are phonetically the same ("aum" not as much). I personally believe that the spelling makes all the difference. To spell it correctly pays proper homage to one of the most powerful syllables ever manifested, and likewise thinking it correctly. There's no room for sloppy thinking where this particular word is concerned, I feel.
  3. Wow. Good question. I don't think of psychedelic trance when I think of "celestial". It's too earthy for that. When I think of celestial I think: Enya - S/T David Arkenstone - Valley in the Clouds (first and best album) beatless Steve Roach Brian Eno's ambient stuff (On Land, Shutov Assembly, etc.) Tim Hecker, for the kind of thing that gives you personal views from your capsule, as opposed to romanticized versions of what it might be like. Shuttle358 - Frame, for the music that's playing in your capsule as you observe 1000 years from now.
  4. Thanks for that. Been a silent pet peeve of mine for a while. Not that people will stop writing "ohm" anytime soon.
  5. I'm pretty much the part-time, out-of-place fraggle. I find I don't relate much to the culture as a whole. Seems like an escapist drug cult with a penchant for excessive ornamentation, disguised in higher morals that don't get practiced, to me. But I like the music, and have always been more of a fan of a streamlined Zen system than an enthusiastically decorated Tibetan one, to throw out what I think is an appropriate analogy.
  6. Happy Birthday, Fabien. :clapping:
  7. Exactly my thoughts. It's just a warmer experience. Plus, Psyshop smells a little of Chemical Crew.
  8. Heard a fairly intersting Bluetech/Shulman collaboration recently. Not sure where it came from.
  9. Me too. I'm still highly weighted towards Reason, but hope to explore Cubase's full potential in the future.
  10. Theoretically, every sound should have its own slot in the frequency spectrum.
  11. Cool. Thanks exotic. Reminds me immediately of Krumelur, which is a sound I enjoy a lot.
  12. Any good samples out there of their non-ambient stuff would be appreciated.
  13. One very simple thing you can do to add some punch to your bass it to layer it. For instance, create a saw-based sound that plays a melody in one octave, then layer it with a sine-based sound that plays the exact same melody (you can copy the melody from the first track into a new one), but at an octave lower.
  14. Fair enough, TC. But notice I said 99.99%, not 100%. But maybe it's more like 99.9%. I have to admit that I like the idea of a girl who makes music on a 303, and for a horror movie at that. It's my version of that guy who seeks the girl who wants to watch football and drink beer all Sunday long.
  15. Wicked, man. I really like the red one, although, as you know, I think the white one is pretty slick too. Way to go!
  16. When I think of the best Psytrance track ever, I think of the tracks that I've listened to a million times over the years and still don't get tired of. They would be: Pleiadians - Alcyone Technossomy - V.T.O.L. Ka-Sol - Pricken Man With No Name Presents Yogy & Gray One - Big Trouble in Outer Space (Oforia Remix) Juno Reactor - Kaguya Hime Spirallianz - One Way Ltd. Battle of the Future Buddhas - Tigerhill Colorbox - Cyanid Lots of runners up.
  17. I've tried and failed to understand that disc. Psywise, I've been listening to the following this week: Menis - Temporary Insanity: Hadn't listened to this one for a while. What it lacks in production quality (thinnest kick drums I think I've ever heard) is made up for by raw, old-school textures and melodies. Logic Bomb - Headware V/A - Alien Safari Reloaded X-Dream - Irritant Orichalcum & The Deviant - S/T V/A - Vibraspirit 23: Everytime I hear Artax's Greetings from Psychaosis I gain more respect for it.
  18. Me too. On my head as we speak. My only complaint is that the headband leaves somewhat painful impressions on my head after long use, but that's probably because I buzz my hair. And then I have a pair of AKG K-81-DJs for portable use: And then the ol' Sennheiser 280pros for back-up.
  19. :clapping: Totally wicked, Billy. :clapping:
  20. Yeah, I know. That was really stupid of me. I'll leave this thread to the experts.
  21. I see how I misinterpreted things. My fault. Sorry.
  22. I didn't assume anything. Reznik said he got a warning for a thread he shouldn't have gotten a warning for. I reacted based on his statements. Which means the situation was stupid to begin with. But if it had been reality, Nemo, and if you had a sense of right and wrong, you would have done the same thing.
