  1. Indeed. Things Behind the Sun and River Man are such great, sad songs. Some random ones (maybe not sad to you): http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBf_MHsdExQ http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4T1MQGTV9U
  2. I don't think you're missing much, honestly. Mostly indie shoegazer stuff that's past its sell-by date. The ones you know are probably the best, although there are some rare gems there. OT: A couple of great IDM labels that never get enough credit: Boltfish and Attacknine.
  3. It is good. A dark and introspective side to CVJ. However, it's not new material. It's assembled from his back-catalog, which is apparently extensive. Still recommended, though. His older stuff is some of his best, IMO (e.g., Hitori + Kaiso). Some mindblowers on Night on Tape.
  4. I think there are some decent ideas going on in there, but the way you've executed them sounds almost totally generic. I get the feeling when I listen to your music that you are for some reason - or an assortment of reasons - afraid to express yourself the way you'd prefer to express yourself. You have your own voice in your chest somewhere, but the voice you're using is someone else's, and from 1990. You absolutely MUST have something of your own to say if you and others are going to be happy and engaged with your music. Be very mindful of what it is you're trying to say, what message you want the music to transport to others on your sacred chariot. Music, like all art, is communication between souls, not just the transfer of electricity.
  5. Was nice to hear this again after a while. The amount of detail is astounding, as always. Here's good vibes your way, my friend, with hopes of new music in the future.
  6. Yes. I think I have the NovaTekk version. Not sure. Picked it up in '98. Edit: Nope, it's Dragonfly. I've skewed the results.
  7. I agree about The Dark Knight. I thought it was a good movie, but I haven't been able to understand all the worship and hyperbole around it since it came out.
  8. Sounds to me like Krumelur might be something you'd like. I've had it in my car for driving for months at a time. Is nice for when tech trance is too dry, as you say. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2rQrYvGmqU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHlMeBvZcCQ&feature=related
  9. Interesting. I've had a similar experience with that album and with Funckarma in general. The stuff definitely grows, which is, to me, always a sign of good music.
  10. Have it. Love it. I will eventually have their entire catalog. Amazing music.
  11. Vell Vagranz Bion Glent Refurbished One and Two Redirection and Soul Paradox.
  12. Cubase 4 automatically stores the samples I use in the track's audio folder, within the main folder. Does it not do that for you?
  13. I use a Samson Zoom H2 field recorder. I chose it, over the H4, after a ton of research, and have owned it for about 2 years. It's great, and I take it everywhere I go, and I've recorded lots of wonderful, high-quality samples, many of which have been incorporated into my music. Highly recommended. Very easy to use, has an HD slot, and transfers to the computer easily with USB. You can even do surround sound samples because it has four mics. Sure, it's not pro quality, but for the money it's great, and all I need. Sort of like a consumer snapshot camera that takes better pictures than more expensive and elaborate cameras.
  14. Oh man, you're in for a treat. It was a pretty short-lived series, unfortunately, but with enough episodes to be enjoyable and absorbing. And then there's a movie - Serenity - that wraps up the plot lines nicely.
  15. I'm noticing we have very similar tastes in IDM. Picked up that Deru album yesterday, by your suggestion at UO. Also picked up a couple of Funckarma albums - I'm finding those guys really transcend the genre. Not sure how they keep putting out so much giant music on a regular basis. I've been on a Boltfish kick for a couple of months now. Have you heard Zainetica's stuff? Sublime.
  16. Something to look forward to!
  17. There's no way that's real!
  18. Dreamwalker - I also like that sound, but there's really not much interesting stuff out there, IMO. I'd recommend checking out the stuff on Timecode and Nexus Media if you haven't already done so. It's not Goa, but neither, IMO, is BotFB or Ka-Sol. One album I've enjoyed recently, for instance, is the Pitch Hikers album, Sting.
  19. Yes, yes I did. I inflated my Scarlet Johannson and Bill Murray dolls and acted out the karaoke scene. Doesn't everyone?
  20. You all should check out Ponyo, the newest Miyazaki movie. And if anyone still hasn't seen Tekkon Kinkreet, then there's a hole in your life.
  21. Have you seen Firefly yet?
  22. Yeah, pretty cool! I was also shocked to see that YouTube was around in 1982.
  23. So you like movies that make you feel like slitting your wrists after they're done?
  24. There's plenty of good, proper Modern, Contemporary and Post-Modern music out there that has ties with Jóhannsson and Richter: Glass, Ligeti, Messiaen, Stockhausen, Varèse, Honegger, Cage... Definitely check out Steve Reich! Also I find a handful of the Impressionists to be along similar lines, although certainly more traditional in their approach: Ravel, Debussy and Satie.
  25. Reminds me of newer Juno Reactor, except not as "cinematic."
