I've been obsessing a little over Bleep.com lately. It's run by Warp Records, but has an enormous amount of stuff from a ton of labels, all in 320. So if you like IDM, electronica, glitch, electro, etc., then I highly recommend it. Click on "BROWSE" and it takes you to an alphabetical listing of artists.

I don't remember hearing the infamous 16th-note bassline before Headware. I might be imagining this.
-
Of course we will! Ha! Unless we won't, that is.
-
Charlie only speaks Posfordish. He'll be of little help.
-
We'll have to compare notes.
-
That's what I said originally, regis.
-
Kind of. It's called "Tech Trance" (Techno Trance). "Psytekk" is another term that generally refers to minimal psy music, which is different.
-
It does matter, Regerer. I mentioned X-Dream and Spirallianz. The members of Midimiliz and The Delta are contained within these two groups, and all things tech in the psy world started there. Blow me.
-
I don't know how I've gotten the idea in my head, but somebody's going to have to tell me how Logic Bomb was not significantly responsible for the full-on trend.
-
I suspect you've been threatening all these people with roundhouse kicks to the face if they don't start loving Astral Projection NOW, because no one I know has ever fallen for the stuff. Well, except one dude who enjoyed a little bit of newer Juno Reactor, but that's, errrrrr, different.
-
That's exactly what I needed. Thanks, abasio. It's on its way.
-
Then which one do you like? Kidding. You mean "either", as in "I don't like either." "I don't like both" implies you like one of them and not the other. English is fun.

Extrawelt - Midimiliz side project. Only singles available at the moment (downloadable as MP3s in various places), but very tasty stuff, IMO, if you're into that sort of thing.

Where does Marcus come from, reger? Duh.

Of course. All of goa/psy trance until around 2001/2002 was non-progressive and non-full-on until the likes of GMS (full-on) and Vibrasphere (progressive) started making appearances. (Note: "Full-on" was once used to describe a very different kind of sound, one which we generally call "maximal" these days, like the Pleiadians sound, for instance.) There are still a handful of acts not making full-on styled music, but most have succumbed to the style because of its popularity and their ability to get gigs at clubs and festivals. You asked about other sub-genres. Well, there's one of my favorites called tech-trance, which is a hybrid of techno and trance, popularized by X-Dream and Spirallianz. It doesn't have all the swirly psychedelics, nor does it have a 16th-note bassline or swing beat. Instead it has a focus on very powerful, factory-machine-like percussion with very restrained and selective melodic elements.
-
Neither of these subgenres are incredibly familiar to me, but I'll give it shot from what I've heard: Progressive psytrance is a style that has aspects in common with house music, especially the amount of swing/shuffle/lilt of the beat which is quite high, whereas straight-up techno and trance have zero swing in the beat. The sounds used are generally fairly house-like as well. Because of the bouncy, lilting nature of this music it tends to be popular with those who enjoy dancing. Full-on music appears to center around its now infamous 16th-note bassline (with no progressive swing). It also seems to operate at fairly high speeds, but so has the best goa/psy for a decade. It has no swing in the beat but is still popular, apparently, because its signature "rolling" bassline works on the dancefloor. It is detested because the aspects that make it fun for the dancefloor make it boring for home listening.

Can anyone report on the Yagya album? I recommended the artist Ochre to Sherlock earlier in this thread, and I wanted to let people looking for decent music in this genre know that he's got a new album out called Lemodie on Benbecula Records. I just got it yesterday and I can only say that it is a fantastic album from start to finish - blows the first one away, and I thought that was a good album. Again, it's slightly IDM-ish, but not all cut up like a lot of people think IDM is supposed to be. Blissful stuff. Samples here.

What music are you listening to right now?

I don't see how it's possible to cry to a goa/psy track, unless your cat is dying while it's playing, and then I would want to shut the music off.
-
I wonder how available T.I.T. 2 is. I have yet to year it. Anybody seen it around?

My all-time favorite is still that part in Alcyone. You know the one. Runner up 1: Ka-Sol's Pricken (from Tales From the Dark Forest) when the third stage of melody intensity kicks in before the conga-like drum break. Runner up 2: Pigs in Space album, Big Trouble in Outer Space Remix, the melody layering shortly after the break, and then the huge crunchy melody build at the end. If anyone could lead me to similar stuff I'd be delighted. Read HUGE, CONTROLLED INTENSITY.

Psy. I didn't know the particular tracks. But I would describe the style as being sort of lazy or raw, and almost to the point of cliche, but very effective. Whereas everyone else seemed to be trying to pack the most killargh sci-fi thriller action into their tracks, Prometheus went for the less is more approach, which I really appreciated.
-
Prometheus was pretty much the only trance thing I liked at Sonica. I'd be interested to hear a new album.
