In my experience, "dark" can be one of two things: 1. deep, or 2. scary. Can't be both. And I prefer the deep kind.

(One good track on the Derango album.)

Well since you put it that way. Okay. But my original question still stands, which is: Is there anything like Broken out there? Like, er, (don't hate me for this one) psychedelic big-beat?
-
I like and need it heavy. Thanks, Sandy V.

4x4 = four-on-the-floor, boom-tss-boom-tss-boom-tss-boom-tss music 4/4 = time signature Different things, dammit. OD was right.

I was expecting this thread to be about Hara Gobi.

V/A - Broken (Timecode) I find this album to have some of the most refreshing, huge and tasty tracks I think I've ever heard. Lots of heavy-duty breaks, yet still very psychedelic and accessible. Any leads on similar stuff? Did Timecode release anything similar after this? I know about the Artifakt stuff, but it doesn't seem as heavy-hitting (although I haven't heard it for real yet, with the exception of a couple tracks on random comps). Thanks.

Rough and Rush from that list. Suzuki and Ion 2nd.

You know how sometimes you have really high expectations for a new album, and then when you get it those expectations were so impossibly high that you ended up not enjoying the album? It's happened to me a few times. This is one case where I had very high expectations for an album, and not only were they met, but they were completely destroyed. I've been a fan of Christer Ka-Sol for some time now, through various tracks on various compilations from Schlabbaduerst and Stone Age. He very quickly became my favorite psy artist because his sound just really spoke to me on so many levels, and this without having released an album. When I heard a couple years ago that there were plans to release a double-album on Schlab, I freaked. Since then I've waited as patiently as possible, and apparently plans changed somewhat, because one of those two albums has been released on Suntrip, with another one planned for Schlab in the near future. And I can't think of a better label for Christer than either Schlab or Suntrip, since they're both dedicated to releasing only the best psy music , and doing so honestly and with passion for the music. The album hits the ground running, and doesn't stop its relentless, awe-inspiring, totally unique, hard-hitting, dark forest pace until the album is over. It's hard to pick a favorite track on here because they're all so good - which I have to say is an EXTREMELY rare feat from my experience. This takes the Derango album, chops it up into little bite-size pieces, and snacks on it for a late-night munchie, saving one piece to pick its teeth when it's done snacking. I don't mean it's meaner or darker or anything like that; it's just far and away superior music. Thanks you, thank you, thank you, Christer, for this magic. And to think there will soon be another album that's even more hard-hitting makes me need to buy all new underwear. (And about the printing error - the white boxes instead of the fade - I'm glad. Because this album, already a collector's item in my opinion, is now that much moreso.) P.S. Hat's off to Tim Schuldt for an amazing job of mastering, and to Anoebis and Mars for setting this monster free.

No, shweetie. I meant that the Spirallianz/Midimiliz boys made Atmos seem silly to me. Blast Food has been and probably will always be one of my favorite psy albums.
-
It came at a bad time for me. I was into the minimal thing for about a month, and liked maybe one or two things, like Noma. But around the same time Spirallianz came out and made the whole minimal thing seem sorta silly to me.

Hehe. We could have sold both our copies and bought one copy of Accidental Occidentalism.
-
I actually gave my original copy away to a friend - a guy who used to hang out here back in the day (Helium, who was obsessed with Hux Flux, and I never really liked 'em) - some time ago. 280? That stings a little.
-
Hehe. I was about to say, "Was there more than one?" Headcleaner, or whatever it was called, was a snorefest from hell.

Got a small order from Saikosounds: 1. Ka-Sol - Fairytale 2. V/A - Broken (Timecode) 3. Vibrasphere - Archipelago 4. Solar Fields - Leaving Home After being thoroughly blasted by the first disk, I'm working my way through the second - surprisingly good stuff!

What music are you listening to right now?

Agree. I'm listening to The Flashbulb - Red Extensions of Me album. Love this guy's work. -
Green nuns of the revolution - Ring of fire - Best full on e

I was never really big fan of Green Nuns. They always left me flat. I got very similar feelings from Cosmosis and Hallucinogen. Very complex stuff, for sure, just...somehow...I don't know...flat and thin, like a huge Swiss Army knife with a million gadgets that you couldn't use for anything. But yeah, it's odd to see "full on" used as it is today when it was once used to describe the best music. I guess we call it "maximal" today. -
Yay. The last track - Superstring - is a remix of one of my tracks (I'm Per Sterud). One of my little claims to fame. Mike and Colin really beefed it up, though, I admit.
-
I admit it's not all good. Some stuff is admittedly evil for evil's sake and a bit noisy, instead of just punk like much of the rest of it. But there are some tracks on these compilations that blow away the vast majority of the new stuff I've heard, especially the tracks by Ka-Sol and Battle of the Future Buddhas, as well as their collaborative efforts and D-Dave by himself. (I would kill for a D-Dave/Ka-Sol album.) I also really love what the Schlab label stands for. Totally underground, raw, and genuine. No fancy artwork, just colors and simplicity that lets the music speak for itself. Not trying to sell a million copies. Not too much polish or politics. Just good, powerful music. I look forward to these releases as much as just about anything else. Every one is a gem in its own way.

I think he bored himself to death.
-
LB, Kenneth told me he'd be interested in doing the interview when he remasters his tracks and creates a new website for them - and possibly some other stuff, I don't know.

You can't describe triplets in a time signature. Triplets are note information. Again: Top number is how many beats to a measure. Bottom number is which note gets the beat. There is no information in a time signature about how the beat is further divided, which is the job of a triplet.
-
I wouldn't really call them boring, per se, just uninspired. Guardian Angel is a pretty cool track. And Rotorblade is the best track on the album, IMHO.
-
I used to like Primus until I found all their music sounds the same. It's been a while, but I'm sure I'd still enjoy My Name is Mud and Hamburger Train if I heard them again.
