  1. This site was originally called "goatrance.free.fr," Kristian.
  2. I feel similarly, especially about new Goa trance. Hard to like it, although I appreciate the spirit. Still, I have lots of Goa faves that I often dig out because it's simply good music to my ears. But that was an era, and things have moved on.
  3. Nice to hear. I found the pilot interesting and liked the choice of actors. The main thing that bothered me about BSG was that there was too much drama when there should have been more kickass space war action. To have an intelligent BSG-related series with just the drama is fine with me.
  4. It's actually "Looken0r," but close enough.
  5. I'm going to take a stab at Drosophila's and say Manmademan.
  6. Lower your shields and surrender your cheezburgers.
  7. Aaaaaaaaaahaha. LOL, rather. Borg cat is watching you masturbate.

"Analytical/technical depth": The ability to translate ideas and "heart" into technical, electronic, aural reality in a way that transcends itself experientially. In other words, it doesn't transport. It's not a 1+1=3 experience. It's too transparent, and when one can see the stitching of the structure, one gets distracted from a potentially transcending, transporting experience. Darshan was able to pull it off, which is why I mentioned him, as an artist of a similar time period with a similar sound (unadorned, darkish Goa). But really, don't mind me. Although we share similar musical interests, we probably listen to music differently. And I take issue with some albums I feel have been overhyped, which generally destroys the experience of that music for others. Deviant Electronics' Blunt Instruments is another great example of an album that was okay, but keeps being brought up as the prototype breakbeat album in our genre.
  9. OMG, this 3D thing is out of hand. What, are we in the '50s? The '80s? History repeats itself. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and

Depth, I agree, is subjective. I was talking about emotional, analytical and technical depth, which it lacks. What it does have, which I think greatly contributed to its hype, is a cool artist name, a cool album name, and, especially, a cool, prestigious work of art as a cover.

Man, I haven't heard that in a long time. I remember that being my favorite on the album by far. Didn't really like the rest of the album. It didn't have the depth or intensity of, say, Darshan.
  12. Holy shit, I was wondering if I'd ever find out who that poet was. Absolutely nothing comes up in a Google search except this and another Psynews thread, but this is the first time I've read this one. It's one of the few poems I have memorized, and have recited it to myself too many times to count. So powerful. Now I know, and have been reading more of his great stuff online, and have ordered his works. Thanks, dewf, if you're still around (which it appears you're not, since your only two posts are in this thread).
  13. It has a million and one uses, as posted on Symphoid's website, including: #349,224 - Listen to the ocean! #349,225 - Make playing Spin the Bottle more artful! #349,226 - Store your hot sauce! #349,227 - Act like you're Galileo! #349,228 - Blow it like a whistle! #349,229 - Store your sex lotion! No, I have it on a shelf as an objet d'art.
  14. I like the idea of ambient music. Like when sitting in a planetarium and looking at a ceiling of stars before the presentation begins. Most of the time it bores me, but sometimes there's nothing better. Some stuff I can listen to all the time, like Biosphere, The Dead Texan/Stars of the Lid, and some of Roach's stuff, like this. But it has to transport me.
  15. Agree. You should definitely check out Tim and Eric. (Don't know if you can stream from where you are.)
  16. Agree. A rare case. But of course we owe it do Mr. Dick for the vision in the first place.
  17. Bob - T.O.U.C.H. Samadhi is the Asheville outfit. Here.
