  3. I'm with Colin. My names generally appear in the process of making a track. I try to wait for the track to decide what it wants to be called, and sometimes that happens after the track is done.

  5. Damn, my head is spinning after all that... Regarding the need for labels: Labels to me, at least in the genres we tend to enjoy here, are an organized umbrella of a certain sound. Some label owners are like artists themselves in how they gather a certain sound that did not exist in an organized way before. For that reason they're a good idea. Some of us will buy from a certain label we really like, even if we've never heard the artist before. Another issue I have is that I really, really enjoy having a designed package with my music, something I can hold and something I can look at while the music is playing. Downloaded music does not allow for this experience. But regarding how to inspire more buying? I'm all for privacy rights, but I personally believe that anyone who downloads more than a moderate amount of music should be punished severely. Music, as we all know, is very similar to a drug. We can't get enough of it. But it's a relatively harmless drug, affecting only our wallets, if anything. Downloading, on the other hand, is a more serious drug. It's the kind that affects other people's wallets for the sake of the downloader's immoral and out-of-control habit. So if we, as the animals we are, operate on a system of reward and punishment, the severe cases of downloading should be punished harshly, which may scare other downloaders into not downloading as much. On the reward side, perhaps when you actually buy a new album at the regular price you can register it online somehow and receive credits to download more stuff from legitimate sites, perhaps label sites, artist sites, etc. Maybe those credits could be made generic so that if the person doesn't want to use them to purchase music related to the purchases from where they were earned, they can go to any number of other places and use them. Maybe with each new CD purchased you get, say, 10 generic credits (after registering your CD), and those can be used to buy, say, two to four new, unreleased tracks, depending on their size. Maybe some labels can inspire more buying by having "sales" on how many credits some particular tracks are worth. The labels that attract more legitimate downloads may attract more sales from people who want the entire albums, complete with package art. I don't see how a credit system would keep downloading down, however, because free will always be better than paying. That's where government needs to step in. After all, that's what government is for, isn't it?

  8. That, strangely enough, is the English language for you. There are a million different examples. Just in that sentence, the ou in "enough" and "you" are pronounced differently. And "enough" is strange as it is, since it should be spelled like "enuff". I used to know the reason for the "ough" thing in English, but I don't anymore.
  9. I'm an amateur DJ but with some music theory education, and I've always been annoyed by DJs who don't mix harmonically. There's nothing worse than the dissonance created when two tracks in different keys collide for a minute or however long. So I do my best to mix in key, but it's certainly a ton more effort than mixing normally. And yeah, pitch control - on CDJ 100s at least - is very sketchy. Interesting topic, though!

  11. A very good album. Up there with Pigs in Space as far as Dikovsky related work is concerned. The System is my favorite here. Love that kick and the ripped bassline, although I wouldn't miss the samples if they were edited out.
  12. I don't think that's what he meant. I think he meant that if you wait patiently all CDs will eventually be OOP, in which case you'd never have to feel badly about downloading. It also implies that if more people wait for a disk to fail and go OOP, the sooner everyone can download it.
  13. True, but if one's hedonism makes other people suffer, then it becomes a morality problem, and therefore not strictly "personal" anymore.
  14. Yes. That's part of the fun that people who download miss out on. Not everything is meant to be accessed. For instance, if you had access to every model you thought was beautiful or intriguing, it would take a lot of the mystery out of them, and you'd always be hungering for more. And every once in a while a CD is re-released for a normal price, instead of hundreds at eBay. A good example is Indoor's Progressive Trance, an album I've been very curious about for many years but could never find. I just bought it and it's on it's way from Saikosounds. The fact that it's not the original release doesn't bother me a bit; I'm more interested in the music. Often things are better left as fantasies, for the oxygen-rich air of reality has a way of tarnishing once beautiful things.
  15. Wow, again, sorry to hear that. I'm from an older generation and don't understand the whole downloading thing. To me music has always been accessible as far as I can afford it, and maybe once in a while I get a copy of an album from friends. The albums I feel I must have, I buy. The runners-up that I'd like to hear but can't afford remain a mystery. For your "friends" to download the album is a complete farce.

  23. I was actually kind of hoping that someone out there would actually like it. You know, find some sort of use for it other than selling it over and over and over. I wouldn't be surprised if your copy had been owned by like 30 different people.
