Consider the synthesizer sequence in Pink Floyd's "On the Run". Here we have a sequence of eight notes which are sped up to 170 bpm and beyond. This sped up sequence twists and turns into a melody which is hypnotic, and many trance tunes employ such a manipulation of sound. I would like to know if, in music theory, there is a particular single word or term to describe a long twisting synth sequence. For example, the term arpeggio means the sounding of the notes of a chord in rapid succession. So is there any term for a long twisting synth sequence?

This is one of the best albums for 2011 indeed. Do not expect complex music here. This is easy listening where you will get soothing, relaxing and blissful tunes. Definitely recommended!

Yes Rotwang, what you say makes sense. I am not into darkpsy, but the isratrance poll results have got me curious and it is interesting to see how folks are into different styles.

Onkel Dunkel - Use Your Head, which topped the list on Isratrance for best album with 7 votes (that would be 70 points), and VA - Weird Worlds, which topped the best compilation (again with 7 votes), have absolutely no mention in the Psynews poll results. I find it surprising that they both did not appear anywhere in the results here... not even a single point. What do you think of this? On the other hand, Artifact303 - Back To Space which topped the list here with 10 votes, did not get a single vote in the isratrance poll. I thought this was interesting.

Although this is a Psynews results thread, I would also like to talk about the poll results from Isratrance, for comparison and reference purpose. In this regard I am a fan of well thought out mixes coz it is after all a journey and story telling. I can only imagine how long it must take for good track selection and then studying the arrangement, flow, etc. Huge bonus points if all this is achieved on the fly. Yeah the transition from dark to light from track 13 is quite noticeable. It changed the mood abruptly but favorably I suppose. I am on the look out for more tracks like 10,11. You know any more? Right now two come to mind: X-Dream - Irritant and Disco Hooligans - Palm Trees (Slow Mo Mix). Heard both of these on "Katalepsis - Turbulence" mix posted here on Psynews. I am looking forward to your Psy Techno mix, if you still going to do it. Dig deep, take your time and I am sure you will nail it.

Entire mix is good and all tunes offer something special. Mixing is top notch with long transitions in some places. I wouldn't label this mix as strictly "Chilled Goa". One only begins to feel the distinct Goa sound by track 6 (MWNM - Cairo). It's some times futile to pigeon hole songs into sub-genres and styles but I would like to do it here as this mix is a good example of an eclectic blend of various styles like Psychill, Goa, Minimal & Psychedelic Techno while keeping the tempo on the lower side. The transition from Goa to Psychedelic Techno is achieved through Etnica - Fade which is a psytrance tune with a techno like groove. After this we enter the realm of driving baselines with Jupiter 8000 and K.U.R.O. These two tracks are the definition of psy influenced techno in this mix. If your body does not start moving between 40:00 and 49:00 even sitting on a chair, then there is someting wrong with you. The head bopping baseline now gives way to minimalism in the form of Way Out and the mood of the mix changes to being colorful as we reach G-Pal - Aegan Sea, again gaining energy with MWNM, Khetzal and ending with highly melodious and lush synth lines in the closing track. Quite a few old tunes here but still enjoyable. For me this mix got better with more listens. Artwork is soothing. 01. Entheogenic - Yage ---- Psychill 02. Thanks PRS for mentioning this in your "F***,it's getting dark fast" thread. While that mix was too fast for me, this one suits my mood just perfect. This has a tribal feel to it due to the distinct percussion of many tracks. It progresses well and gathers energy mid way and finishes off with an awesome track with tribal beats and acid sound. I liked your choice of tunes for the opening and closing of the set. Tegma - Drums of Africa emphasizes the mood mid way. I thought all tracks were good with smooth mixing and there is no filler material here. If I had to choose my absolute favorites they would be 1,7,15. I listened to this twice back to back. If I had to critic anything, it would be the title and cover art. I didn't get a feeling of being transported to a cold place with icy landscape. P.S. Thanks for mentioning the time period of each track coz it makes it easy to identify what is playing when.

This was way fast for me. I need something dark but like 120-130 bpm. Is there anything dark progressive out there on the slower side?

I vote for this. Two heads are better than one as long as you both don't fight. But since there is no option for this, I went for Insejn. I have been a lurker for a while now, rarely post but do read stuff. I want to say that sites like psynews are important for discussion and involvement of psytrance lovers. A DJ makes money by spinning someone else's music. Does he/she give a percentage of that earnings to the producer? hmmm ? That's the real question.
