Bad Boy!

A lot of stuff people call pure psytrance sounds like "full on" to me. Rinkadinks early stuff for example.

The mastering of today doesn´t sound light
Shpongled247 replied to radi6404's topic in General Psytrance
I think part of what you might be referring to with the new Shpongle Radi is actually the mixing, not the mastering. The fact that Simon now uses a lot more digital gear perhaps, well, definitely has an effect on the overall sound. I don't notice Shpongle to be particularly squished or heavy to my ears though, they are one of few groups who always allow stuff to breathe in my ears at least. -
Some artists are just not like others, so it´s with Ott
Shpongled247 replied to radi6404's topic in General Psytrance
To be honest I am not an Ott fan. I like Hallucinogen in Dub a bit, but frankly if I'm going to listen to psy ambient style stuff I just rather listen to Entheogenic, Carbon based life forms or Shulman. Or obviously Shpongle... For dub stuff I would prefer Desert Dwellers... But yeah I am not so into that style. Respect to the guy though as a great producer and seems like a good dude. -

Terrafractyl a suitable artist for me?
Shpongled247 replied to radi6404's topic in General Psytrance
Felix just released this new Terrafractyl mix/demo mix. More of a teaser mix as all tracks only last less than 2 mins. But you can get a feel for his newer stuff. People who thought too jazzy might like as I think it has gotten perhaps a smidge less jazzy over time. Either way its freaking good stuff. Specially should you find yourself in the Australian bush land on a dancefloor as the sun is coming up someday Pure joy yupp. http://soundcloud.com/terrafractyl/flying-psychedelic-dinosaur -
Soooo Gravity, anyone else seen it?? I went to see it at a large 3D cinema recently in London, and was actually a little bit underwhelmed. Not sure what i was expecting exactly, but it was... Just missing something.. Character development maybe, storyline... It was all just so homogenous and pre packaged, you could tell what was happening from the moment the movie started... Very very.. Hollywood.. I was hoping for something a little more "Moon" or Europa Report, not completely given the cast, but .. at least, a tiny bit! What u guys think? I'd give it about a 7.3 and fun enough for a 3D movie date. Don't feel like i wasted my time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goa_trance Its already been done, by Wikipedia and numerous other sites. I recall Basilisk at Ektoplazm had a good list of such things at one point, along with numerous other sites. Making a site, "explaining" goa trance, is not going to make more people like it! I admire your dedication though!

Terrafractyl a suitable artist for me?
Shpongled247 replied to radi6404's topic in General Psytrance
Australia's finest producer IMO You should listen to all of Chrysalis from start to finish Radi. It's in my top 5 albums of all time and I prefer it to his newer album. Has a tonne of his best work on va releases as well though. Search for Brainplant, Asturias, Slipstream and specially Altered Planet. He did like early infected but imo developed his own sound and musically is far beyond their work. Enjoy -
Haha Nice!

Wow.. Frankly there are some amazingly accurate reviews here already, at least accurate to how I feel. I've been engrossing myself in this album since the moment of its release, at least 30+ listens now, and am about to review it for an Australian psychedelic magazine. That entire time, I have had a huge grin across my face. If that doesn't say something, nothing musically does... I can't put my thoughts here fully yet, still amidst writing, other than to say wow. As a long time fan I am freaking grateful to see how far Jannis has come. This album is a breath of fresh air, a burst of positivity and an affirmation of everything i Iove about goa trance and Filteria. I will endeavour to post my full review in the coming days.

Yo, give me a heads up well before next year if u can Imba and we try make it while I'm on this side of the world.

I stopped reading at "a joint allows you to think what you want" Lol. Subtle Troll mastery skill diminished -50 You must venture forth into the psychedelic wasteland to regain your strength.
-
I have to say, I just bought it again on bandcamp as i couldnt wait hah, and holy fuck was it worth it! Just.. Wow. Jannis if you read this bravo my friend The most refined and unique Filteria sound yet Imho. Also just wondering what did Tim Schuldt think of it while working on it? Is he a fan? Heh. Sounds like he did some great stuff for you too.

Terrafractyl https://soundcloud.com/terrafractyl If you want some melody with your full on. Or perhaps better said, full on with your melody Personally i can't stand nano style stuff etc anymore after more than 1 or 2 sets.. But that is just since living in London. The Oversaturation of the same style full on is just freaking incredible. Terrafractyl however, I could listen to anytime and for any amount of time. Musically it is a cut above everything else out there in the genre imho. Would also add Talpa and Nystagmus for some melodic goodness

I like a nice cup of tea as much as the next guy, but ginko, generally hasn't done shit. It is barely even proven to have Any positive effects, and certainly nothing like you mention... As for it being "better" than smoking a joint... I don't even know where to start with that.. So I wont. But its just not in any way comparable... Its just...Not.. You could perhaps look in to Yerba Mate, Kava and the like if you are into things like that. They have a more pronounced effect than ginko and black tea however.

Ordered! Can't waiiiiit! Must say though, I wish you guys were doing the beatspace (Edit: I meant bandcamp) thing where when you order the CD you get the free digital download instantly... Not sure about paying for it twice just to stop the wait for postage hehe. Mmm it is Filteria though so maybe I just will. All the best with the release!

Psytrance that does not sound like psytrance
Shpongled247 replied to Taika-Kim's topic in General Psytrance
Sure bud Mmm my favourite is everything off his first album, Chrysalis, specially Delta Wave which is this track: along with In saying that some of his best single tracks are on V/A Releases like Annnnnnd his second album has some amazing tracks as well: I could go on forever as he is my favourite producer but yeah, start with his first album I think and see if you like it. He does use vocal samples, but mostly tastefully and not in a toooooo cheesy way. And the reason it sounds interesting is he is actually a classically trained musician who turned to electronic music later rather than just someone who started with electronic music with no musical knowledge Enjoy mate. -
Psytrance that does not sound like psytrance
Shpongled247 replied to Taika-Kim's topic in General Psytrance
I'll 2nd Terrafractyl for being amazingly unique. But i think it still sounds like psytrance, just a master of the melodic version as such.. hah. er.. Im not really sure what you're after to be honest... The hyper 150++ experimental stuff doesnt sound like psytrance to me... but it doesnt sound good either.. so i dont really know where to point ya! -
Great article, and I am thankful to Joske and Mars for everything they have done, and somehow continue to do! If you meet Joske you will see he does it out of pure love for the scene and for goa trance! While I don't buy every release, the least i can do is plan to own every Suntrip CD in the near future to help support. Digital is great but I would love to have something to show my kids one day, even if I never play them physically. Also I would so rock a Filteria shirt, we should get some happening

Are you pissed off that there is no psy out there?
Shpongled247 replied to radi6404's topic in General Psytrance
Mmmm No! If anything I am bordering on there being "too much" psy in London at times! Not all to my tastes mind you, and not so much goa but still... Just this week i got to see a retro Talamasca set, and meet the man a hero of mine from his earlier works, the week before that an amazing prog party and in two weeks time Shpongle Live in London... Every single week there is more than 2 or 3 parties to choose from depending on your flavour.. So no, this stuff isn't going to be played in any old bar, but for me I wouldn't want it to be. I'd rather experience it at a gig put on by people who love the music and create a beautiful psychedelic space for all to enjoy for 8/16/24/48 hours... I think you should try and get out to some parties sometime Radi, see what its really all about and support the scene and the djs/artists you love that way! Perhaps even meet some like minded goa girls, hah. -
Soooo only less than a month until new Filteria album releases! In light of that fact I believe we should change our vernacular when discussing releases and timeframes to include the terms BFF (before Filteria 4), and AFF (after Frederics freakout...no After Filteria four obviously). This seems to be the only way forward when discussing music after an album as epic as this! Ps: I'm joking but yeah the Filteria album, Wooot, at last. Whadya guys reckon? Excited? Indifferent ? Abhorrent? Lol. I've waited a looooong time and Jannis was nice enough to answer some fanboy questions of mine that made me even more excited
