  1. oi oi..not so fast.. just cuz there's no psy in singapore doesnt mean there's no partying...singapore has some really big clubs (ok so the music's not great), but if u can deal with some tech-house or trance or that type of thing for a night u should be ok. a lot of places, atleast last time i was there a few years ago, have a policy where u pay one price to get in and then certain drinks are free the whole nite. So basically u just get tanked, and go crazy. otherwise...singapore is only good for two other things, food and shopping...lots of different food from all over the planet...and lots of shopping. electronics are cheapers than a lot of places as singapore is a free port, and goods coming into the country aren't heavily taxed (or taxed at all). so yeah, i live in thailand and basically whenever ppl here need to go buy any electronic equipment, or clothes, whatevers basically, we just hop on a plane and go down to singapore for a day or two.. i know i know...very materialistic, and very capitalistic...but yeah, i guess thats what singapore's all about. oh yeah, and no gum...there's a fine for that...along with 100 other things..the one thing u MUST do is pick up one of those satirical t-shirts that list all the possible laws u can break and fines u can get in singapore...for example: urinating in elevators...$1000 ???? just random stuff like that...guarantee u it will make u laugh, plus...those shirts are fucking classic. anyways, enjoy!!! peace!
  2. oops...just saw that u already ruled yahel out...my bad...but mmm..maybe have a listen again?? if u like melodic stuff and you like psy, uve got to have some respect for waves of sound.. maybe, just maybe?? ok ill shut up.. peace!
  3. tatsu already suggested this, but im going to second it and strongly suggest Yahel - Waves of sound...im also a person who finds a whole different trip purely within the melodies of certain tracks, and i swear, this album will play with your emotions in every way imaginable...u've got really dark tracks, tracks that have a certain ambiguity about them (neither sad nor happy...maybe both..)... ontop of it, the production values are amazing, and while the melodies are quite prominent at all time, there are always these sub melodies, or sub layers of sounds that are provide pure psychedelic bliss...depending on what your mind and soul chooses to focus on.. other yahel cds are also quite good..yahel - hallucinate, is maybe slightly less melodic, while yahel - private collection does an amazing job of balancing between trance, psy, and progressive stuff.. some really good tracks id recommend in general are: yahel - hallucinate yahel - avalanche yahel - voyage yahel - last man in the universe yahel - going up enjoy!
  4. yeah, definately have to be open to all kinds of styles of music...usually when i dj i play together with a friend that dj's tech trance and we switch off every couple of tracks at the beginning of the nite (the nites here are short, clubs close at 1am) before i start playing some more full on psy for all the drunk ppl that want to go nuts..so yeah, recently ive been exposed to a lot of techy and also melodic trance type stuff..which is good for me, because the most inspirational album i have (both for djing and just for a general emotional trip) is yahel - waves of sound...and i think that one album incorporates the best of psychedelic and melodic music, all bundled up through some amazing production values.. dont know if u liked any of my tracks, they're kind of old, and i never got a chance to properly master them before my hard disk crashed and everything disappeared (my own fault for not making backups..) so yeah , im in the process of making some new stuff now...got a new soundcard, motu 828MKII (beautiful piece of equipment), so now im starting to properly implement all the hardware gear that i only used for live sets and not for actual production..anyways, let me know what u think about the tracks, and give me suggestions..im trying to put together a live set that will "stick" in people's minds as im scheduled to play on new years eve from 23:30 to 00:30... thanks again for your interest! peace!
  5. whats up nemo? will definately check out that label...i do like some tribal stuff but a lot of it gets too repetitive for my taste..but yeah, a lot of tech-tribal stuff is cool. unfortunately i dont think ive heard the other track on the echnalava vinyl. a friend of mine has it but i think ive only heard him spin echnalava...anyways next time he plays ill ask him to put it in. cool that u know the track though! peace!
  6. hey ppl.. i used to be a complete full on psy head, but recently ive had a change of heart, just realizing a lot of full on stuff doesnt do the trick anymore..anyways im not going to get into that cause i know a lot of us feel the same way...anyways, recently ive been getting into a little bit of tech-trance, and i stumbled upon this track by Marco V., called Echnalava.. anyways, personally i think its a fuckin' pumpin, hard progressive track, and i try to include it in every prog-psy set i play..and people go nuts.. so yeah, i seriously suggest that anyone that loves prog stuff should check this track out (how you get it im not going to suggest..)..and dont be put off that the artist usually makes tech-trance, more melodic trance...this track is by no means cheesy or lame...its got mad style:) peace! happy listening!
  7. sorry tatsu, dont know what went wrong with the link, i know it works so i must have typed it wrong..ayways here you go! hope to see u there! http://psychedeliclodge.tripod.com/ Psychedelic Mountain Lodge peace!
  8. yeah, i think im basically just repeating what nemo said...but yeah, when i mix i always have the crossfader positioned at its middle point...and then i mix with the channel faders from there...it definately makes for a smoother mix..just have to make sure to drop the channel fader from the channel that is currently playing down a little bit as u raise the other one up...ive forgot to do this so many times and all of a sudden the volume doubles and it can be extremely unpleasant... anyways...i think im just stating the obvious.. btw, tatsu, im playing live at a party in switzerland on new years, if u're interested u can check out all the details on this link: Psychedelic Mountain Lodge cheers!
  9. hey man, looking good!!! so neat and tidy dont have any pictures to share with you of my studio, cuz its not a studio...just a bunch of devices and cables and cds and.....anyways its a mess!!! hopefully one day ill have a virus sitting next to my computer though as well...looking forward to the TI! peace!

  11. Thailand?? crazy i didnt know there were any psy trance producers here...mm..names dont sound very thai either... if u can give me any more info it would be much appreciated.. i know thailand has some djs that play abroad...sabai sabai, amongst others, but producers??? mm, maybe they don't live here anymore (would be the smart thing to do if u want to do something with psy trance here...) interesting indeed... damn, this is news to me...ive been playing live here in bangkok for about a year and i havent ever heard of any other psytrance producers in the country.. peace!
  12. thanks tatsu...its not often i feel up to writing something lengthy, but for certain topics..yeah, just have to take it into a different perspective sometimes, way to many people just start bashing an artist (i dont mean u Seraph) but just in general...ppl start going off about how bad and shit and artist has become when they dont actually stop and think about why the change has happened...those people should save their breaths and rather just write that they dont like the artist's new style..would save time and energy for sure anyways now im going to go start a topic that does just the opposite.."Looks like Bush has done it again!"...haha, this should be a fun one...feel free to go off on a rant!!
  13. I agree with both of you in some ways...Yes, infected and yahel have changed, and i must say their music lacks the same personality and energy it had in the beginning...but come on, we all have to agree that almost every band, producer, musicians, at some point in life, starts going downhill...i find with electronic music this trend begins to show quicker than in other forms of music..but thats because the basic components of dance music are so similar and producers quickly see a reason to try and move in a diffferent direction...if yahel was still putting out tracks with huge melodies, his first couple albums would no longer seem as special, and it would be the same thing over and over (exactly what has happened with euro trance, and tech-trance is on its way)..face it, a keyboard only has a certain number of keys and notes..yahel isnt full-on with crazy sound effects that can be tweaked to sound different regardless of what key theyre played on...but melodies are something different.. i fully agree that the first two yahel albums were amazing (hallucinate is also pretty fucking cool in my opinion) but yes, private collection does see a massive style change..more progressive and minimal...but the problem is, all we do is compare. If you took private collection not knowing about yahel, or not having previously heard his other albums, i think u'd think the cd was pretty damn cool...im not pointing fingers, i have a feeling thats just the way humans are...we always need a reference, something to compare the new stuff we hear to...please, i dont want to start a 4 page topic about human nature, im letting lemmi and feathers and the rest of psychologists on this board handle that field all im saying is that we shouldnt compare...if the new style isnt what floats our boat...then theres no reason to listen to it, everybody's happy....but i agree with tatsu, im slowly but surely getting sick of people making the same "they're sellouts now," "what the fuck happened to them??" comments...lets be constructive people..and again, im not pointing fingers, just making an observation of the reactions of a lot of posts on this board.. everyone from the beatles to pink floyd, to metallica have undergone some sort of change, call it progression, regression, whatever you want...but the truth about music is that it changes as you change as a person...its inevitable...and the truth about life is that, people change...it may not be a drastic change, but its reflected in some aspect of your life...in the case of infected and yahel, and many more im sure, its through their music... respect it and accept it...thats what i think atleast peace!
  14. i dont know, dont really have any specific to talk about, am just listening to yahel at the moment...and all i can say is...wow.. i know for a lot of psy heads yahel's sound is too "trancey" or "club-oriented," some people even go as far as saying its not psy at all..but anyways, i just think his music, either way you look at it, is amazingly beautiful..and listening to his tracks from a production point of view, truly stunning. Most tracks these days (full on tracks, not prog stuff) lack personality and there's no real layering of sounds.. Everytime I put in Waves of Sound, and hear two basslines, 5 melodies, and effects and drums all blended and layered seamlessly i wonder how half the people that release music these days do it ...i dont want to turn this topic into a stream of posts about how psy trance is in a constant downwards spiral these days, because i know we all realize it.. anyways, so i guess i just wanted to know if there's any of you here who feel the same way i do about Yahel..if there's any of you who admire his creativity and skill as much as i do..if so, what are some of your favorite tracks.. some of my favorites are: last man in the universe going up electro panic butterfly hallucinate also, unfortunately ive never seen him play live or heard his dj sets, but if any of you have and could give me a brief description of what it was like, it would be much appreciated.. we need more producers like Yahel! peace!
  15. Yeah, JBL's are pretty damn powerful, add a subwoofer to the setup and you're gonna have parties going on whether u like it or not no im not from thailand, im from switzerland. i used to live in northern thailand when i was a kid, then moved back to switzerland to finish off highschool. Now I just finished the audio engineering diploma at SAE Bangkok...this city is alright, its big and theres a lot of clubs, but because of all the new laws they've introduced over the last 3 or 4 years things have gone downhill. Anyways, psy trance is pretty much non existant here, so i'd consider myself to be probably the only one trying to push psy trance here. im the only person in the whole city who does live acts (any form of dance music that is), ive played at big SAE events, been on the radio, tv, and going to be playing at the biggest music festival in thailand next week..(although i dont think its going to be full on psy, more tech-trance, techno).its hard though, clubs close at 1am so people dont even bother to go out. the police are a pain, they sometimes come into clubs, lock the doors, and make everyone take urine tests, they randomly pull over cars and taxis and search everything...last night i was playing at this one club and down the road they were having a huge halloween party and there was some sort of bomb threat so people were asked to leave and lots of cops showed up...i dont know this city is falling apart day by day, and its really sad..but the people here are great, the culture is amazing, and u always have the islands and fullmoon parties as a fallback if the city gets too much, so thats a relief... all in all, its a cool city, and i see trance being big here again in 5 years or so (music here is a trend, whatevers cool at the moment is what people follow) so yeah, maybe theres hope, but anyways, there is a small group of us djs and producers that support eachother and try to organize as much as we can, so yeah, things are moving forward slowly but surely..unfortunately, im leaving back to europe in about 3 weeks or so cause im going to be continuing SAE's degree program somewhere there...but hopefully ill be back to thailand regularly to bring some psy back to this city.. below is the link to element of life, the organizers here, if u want to check out some pictures or events that have happened. www.elementoflife.com if u have any more questions, im more than happy to fill u in on life over here.. i dont know if uve checked out any of my tracks, but if u click the link at the bottom of the post u can check out a couple of my songs.. peace!
  16. i have this one cd that a friend burned for me a long time ago, and on the cd the only description reads: "guitar goa." i dont know if thats the official name of the compilation or if he just wrote that on the cd because every track has some guitar part. Due to this, i unfortunately don't know the names of any of the tracks, although i can describe some of the tracks on it. tracks include: Pink Floyd - The Wall (i dont know what the remix is but it kicks ass Panick - The Punisher Prodigy - Breathe (a kind of tech-tribal remix) the song i really am curious about though is one that contains the sample "i see dead people," not taken from the sixth sense, but from Scary Movie two, u know, the one where shorty gets rolled up into a big phat j and gets smoked by his own plant..anyways, the last part of the track has the heaviest guitars ive ever heard in any psy tune...seriously, this track is so massive that if u finish a set with this track (and believe me, ive done it the last 4 or 5 times ive spun), ppl go fucking nuts...there's no holding them back.. anyways, if anyone has any clue as to what compilation im talking about, a link or a full track listing would be very much appreciated, as i want to know what exactly it is im playing and hopefully buy the real cd cuz every track is insane in its own special way.. many thanks, abn
  17. i know u've scrapped them from your list, but i just wanted to give u my feedback on some monitors ive used. my school had genelecs in every studio this year (nearfield) and so i was working with them on a daily basis. they truly are the most accurate in terms of frequency response, but for me, they lack a little bit of character (nemo feel free to disagree). They are so "flat" (which is a good thing) that on the occasions when i did try mixing trance on them the bass just didnt explode for ears, and therefore i kept making the bass louder and louder which turned out to be a disaster back in my car stereo and at home. for me, when i mix psy, i need to be sucked into the music, and the lack of bass and no subwoofer didnt cut it for me. However, i did get a chance to mix a song in 5.1 (jump on the opportunity if any of you every have the chance) and with a corresponding genelec subwoofer, the studio turned into my own little party set up...so yeah, subwoofer definately helps with the genelecs the other speakers i used regularly throughout this year were JBL. i have know idea of the price range, but they definately offered me a lot more bass than genelecs. problem with all the JBLs is that they were bigger and heavier...anyways, as i was in the last month of school they replaced all the genelecs in one studio with a brand new set of JBLs, and these monitors blew my mind. they come with a remote control (some kind of frequency analyzer i think, not exactly sure) but you could go to each speaker with this device in your hand and the speakers would automatically "tune" themselves to the frequency characteristics and dimensions of the room...was pretty cool.. anyways dont think ive really helped in your search for monitors, just thought id throw my opinions out there anyways.. good luck!! p.s. pahana, u never responded to something i said on your last post...i was asking if you had any of your songs online (the darker the better) cause i have 2 halloween parties to spin at, today and tomorrow, and i thought it would be cool to blast some of your tunes at party people over here in bangkok. anyways, cheers!
  18. i've had the same problem with 3 or 4 of the tracks i made when i first started messing around with software music...at the time i was frequently visiting parties and consuming way too many substances, and so my old tracks are actually a lot trippier and more complex than what i make now...problem is, i didnt know a thing about mixing, it was all about feeling.. basically the best thing to do is, as you already mentioned, divide the stereo track into frequency spectrums, so that you have maybe 4 of the same stereo track, each with filters applied with extremely steep rolloffs. that way u have some control of the bass, melodies, etc. the problem i had with my tracks is that the bass and kick were really really muddy. what i did is just lowered the level of the originaly low end frequency range, and added a new fresh bass and kick line.. i never actually finished the track i set out to fix because as u can guess, its a terribly long process...but some songs are just worth fixing up.. i probably havent told u anything u didnt already know, but anyways, i think this is the best (if not only) way to effectively "redo" the track. anyways, much respect for attempting to take on such a task, and good luck!! peace
  19. basically u can make cool voice effects any way u want...u can use any combination of distortion, delay, reverb, phasers, etc. to manipulate voice's...but basically what i think u're aiming for is a vocoder...a vocoder basically takes two signals (usually a voice and a synth or drum) and modulates one ontop of the other according to specific frequency bands...vocoders are available many hardware synths, but can also be found in a bunch of different software configurations. for example, reason 2.5 now has a vocoder (truthfully i havent been able to get any sounds that i really like out of it, but other ppl surely have), and there is the well known VST plugin called Vokator, that i personally havent used, but again, my friends tell me its awsome. I'm sure there are plenty of other soft-synth type vocoders available, so just look around and im sure u'll find something u like.. but again, try just taking a sample, chopping it up, do a little time compression/expansion, rearrange it, any add any effects your heart desires as a final touch. i rarely try to mess with vocoders because i love the job of manually twisting and turning a normal vocal sample into something bizarre.. anyways, enough said, just try it! peace
  20. I use the electribe MX (the blue one with tubes) and personally i think its the coolest piece of equipment ive ever messed around with. the drum parts are awsome and the synth is really cool...i think it costs a bit more than the normal electribes but i think its well worth the money...the tubes are small and the effect is subtle, but it definately adds energy to the music! im all for electribes, so whichever one u decide on, you'll be happy!
  21. damnit my browser is going nuts, keeps posting a new message when i refresh the page...sorry, had to edit this post because it was a double... my bad..
  22. mm, another one of these posts where i could on on forever.. mmm, the most interesting live act (in the sense that i got a could mindfuck) was psysex...they were doing this constant thing with their high frequencies and panning...it was like dental floss for your head if u know what i mean..im talking high frequencies just being blasted at you, but with moderation and with skill, because it was at the point where it almost hurt your ear but never quite got to that point..i saw them live 2 last year at festival where son kite headlined the day before..although their music may not be my favorite, their live act was impressive.. the other most impressive live act ive seen (ive seen a lot, and i dont want to sound commercial) but 1200 mics put on one hell of a show...they had so much gear and they were just tweaking the hell out of everything they had...was truly amazing.. i do live acts myself, so im gonna say the two live acts i saw were definately the most inspirational...of course i could go on and list paste, haldolium, timetech, etc..all great live artists but they just didnt show me the innovation that psysex and 1200 provided... peace!
  23. vocals are cool...if you know how to use them in small doses at the right times...to me a small vocal breakdown can give a full on psychedelic track just a small touch of beauty and sanity, without having to go cheesy with a lot of pads and other melodies... sesto sento has one track, damnit i dont know what its called...the 3rd track from the album "the bright side" which has a small vocal breakdown in the middle....its cool cuz it takes the song in a different direction, slightly more progressive...and then bam, the track turns around and smacks u in the face with a nice psy feeling towards the end.. and then, as ive mentioned before, Timetech - Sensuality is kinda based around a couple of words that this girl says, but to me its one of the most beautiful tracks ever.. but dont even get me started on vocals like that found in eurotrance...mmm..wait, i think i have to puke..
  24. i played an hour live set last nite on a big radio station here in bangkok, thailand...as far as i know, its the first time any music resembling psy trance has been on the radio in this country... its pretty cool, just thought id let u know because the psy infection is spreading i dont know if any of you ppl know channel V, i think they have it in australia and some other places, but me and the guys i play with live have also made it onto Channel V here a couple times doing workshops and small live sets together with the SAE institute in bangkok.. in a city where all u hear on tv and radio is some soft rock/pop and really cheesy hip hop, i think its a breakthrough!!! so happy to be able to spread what all of us love so much to people...open their minds.. peace!!!
  25. no worries no problem at all....i just had someone nagging me the other day that i should change my name because it sounds too much like asian dub foundation...mmm, what can i say, this name is just what im all about, cant change it.. again, no worries!! peace!!
