I found Laoss' stuff soulless but well made, not bad though. "Rigning" got a bit of attention on these forums when it was released. It is certainly his most accessible album, but I think his other two albums are at least equally worthy of attention. "Rhythm of Snow" is similar in its relaxed atmosphere, while "Will I Dream During The Process?" shows a more forceful and emotional approach to the genre. This one of my favorite styles of music, it was conceived by Basic Channel and I like the following quote by electronicmusicreview.net: "The Basic Channel sound, like other conceptually genius ideas, has a leg up on other styles because the philosophy behind the music itself [...]" There is something to this, I think. Any album that starts off with "Quantum Mechanics" has got to be good, right? Samples sound sweet, I'll check this out. Thinking of other examples of artists tragically dying young (Zolod, Cosma and Torakka), I get the feeling that their deaths add something positive (or simply an emotional dimension) to the perception of their work. That's no surprise I suppose.

Not immediately a health effect, but the primary negative with psytrance, for me, has been that it is so obscure, that music never is a topic which I can discuss with most people.

I like it not only because it isn't from just another movie (or from one of those movies which are so common in our music), but also because it points to the vision the artist had. The steam punk theme is obvious from the album title of course, but I think it is admirable when there is a theme, or a vision, to be found at all, since most albums, of any genre, appear mostly a collection of good-enough-tracks; although for any competent artist, they will follow a singular individual style, theme or not. The style of "Steamagination" is an interesting fusion of several sounds. Someone called it a throwback to the, so-called, good old days, but frankly I'm not sure that I have ever heard this sound in completeness before. There is a bit of Koxbox here though, I find. There are also plenty of gritty percussions that often sound great, some very tasty snares. The melodies are pleasing, never sublime, but always elegant and are not relied upon to carry the tracks. The second half of the album becomes a bit darker, a bit more chaotic; rhythm and darkpsy-like patterns become more important than melodies, in some of the tracks. My favorite track is "Cybermind"; this thing is a beast, it twists and turns into and out of melodies and funky screaming rhythms. Overall this is one of the most interesting and unique releases of the year for me, and it should appeal to lovers of all up-tempo psychedelia. Bust-a-move accidentally entering my playlist of metal and power metal while playing Warcraft III and afterwards I thought what the hell was that, that was quite cool. So I got all their stuff and when I needed more, I found this place and that's pretty much it.

Agnosticism is an interesting but odd position. Yes, we can likely not prove God's existence with certainty, but in the strict sense, we cannot prove any statement, save possibly analytical ones (all bachelors are unmarried). Rather, knowledge seems based on judgement calls from rationality, but in this case, what makes the God issue immune to such judgment calls? There are plenty of arguments for and against the existence of God by which one is able to form an opinion, therefore agnosticism seems to me like the uninformed's position, unless one has actually analyzed all arguments and found the conclusion indeterminable. But I suppose it can also be seen as the position of someone who does not care about the issue, which is not unreasonable, but I suspect most people don't actually feel that way.

I like this more than Erta Ale which I found a bit uneven in quality. Overall I think this is a pretty darn nice release, it has some of that darkness that a lot of people seem to miss in new school goa.

Mind rewound, and blown. Maybe my favourite release so far this year. So many tracks, pretty much all of them great. Stand-out tracks too many to mention. What a beautiful achievement and gift to the community.

I'll upgrade my judgement to best album of the year so far. I wholly enjoy also the first four tracks, and moreover how the style of the album grows from the trancey style of those tracks to the more gritty, aggressive ways of the last four tracks. I did not exactly expect such depth judging from his previous releases, which were good but not exceptional to me, but with this album he has shown considerable growth not only musically but also technically, and I look forward to the continuation of his work.

Save the Whale is where the action is at for my part. I would put this track among the top ten eternal classics of the chilled genre. Relaxed but emotional, only slightly milking the tear channels with the whale sounds; which reminds me of the following: George: I'm such a huge whale fan. These marine biologists were showing how they communicate with each other with these squeaks and squeals, what a fish! Jerry: It's a mammal. George: Whatever.

Great debut, smooth and pleasant. I prefer this over all the latest Suntrip releases, although it lacks the originality of Ra's work (which is not one of the latest).
