I'm guessing most are able to see past this not-even-an-attempt-of-objective review, but to those that aren't: don't worry, this is just as bad as you would expect, generic cheesy full-on. Unless you, as the reviewer, have strong memories connected to the melodies that are remixed herein, or simply enjoy this (I am tempted to say horrible) kind of psy, then stay away from it. I must add however, that I've always found California Sunshine unbearable, even though some of their melodies are very emotional, so losing half their brain power for this album obviously did not spell well for my liking.

Dont listen to this, psyfactor! I much prefer you as a chillout artist =) -
What is ingenious about "lifeforms" and "the gathering"? One-word generic names.

Tron - Biologic Review 1. Chopsquad 2. Pollyphonic Pineapple 3. Homegrown 4. HD (feat. Beatnik) 5. Wawawa (feat. Pollyphonica) 6. Prawntrance 7. REsync 8. Freebass 9. Life This is the second part of Tron's discourse to creature full-on for adults. An even more fitting description would be full-on for people with extreme patience, because this sound is so damn dense you will give up on it unless you already know its good. Compared to the previous "Existence", undoubtedly a masterpiece, "Biologic" is a step down in complexity, yet a step up in denseness. This, seemingly a paradox, is explained by the replacement of percussive elements with melodic ones; far from a step towards traditional melodic full-on however. Tron finds melodies that are barely alive, that are just a stone's throw away from being words in a foreign language you neither understand nor care about. "Biologic" balances on the line between full-on muzac and something quite groovy, either way its a relaxing experiences, even in the face of its typical full-on tempo. Its greatest strength is the unobtrusiveness of the sound, its greatest weakness is that it never makes you yearn for it. It wont make you want to move your body in any particular way, but it will make you wanna do something else while still being tickled, but not disturbed, in the musical parts of your brain. As such, it has to be categorized together with, for example, Zen Mechanics and U-Recken, and compared to these names, it surely holds its own.

Can't wait to get my hands on this one. Hopefully he laid off the horribly cheesy voice samples this time around.

Karash - All In Review 1. Grouik 2. Blurb 3. Rainy Monday 4. Ratatouille 5. Deeper in the wood 6. Shinobi Killer 7. Sinus and Cosinus 8. La lutte finale 9. Behelit 10. Furious Indus "All In" is traditional dark psy with occasional semi-melodical climaxes. Let's start with the style. Often, the kick-line gets muddled in the bass and other low frequency sounds creating a beautifully chaotic mess that ranges all through the frequencies. This style is distinct from the more mathematically oriented dark psy, such as for example Bodhisattva 13:20. Psykovsky and Furious are other examples of this distinction. In this sense then, "All In" has more in common with Psykovsky than the latter. But it also differs from the funky dark, such as Mumbali, since Karash uses the bass as a skeleton for the song, rather than means to add to its complexities. While "All In" is climactic in parts, it does not play all its cards on the climax. Usually, climactic music is all but made for home listening, my favorite example of this is "Headroom - Artelligent" which is simply useless for everything except going somewhat nuts on the dance floor. Karash keeps the interest up all through the tracks with interesting although traditional darkpsy madness of short high frequency noises backed up by a plethora of FX sounds of all kinds. Ah, how we love this rare occurrence in music; when I play Karash or his brethren in style at school on my laptop, half of the people passing by think my computer is dying some horrible computer death and the other half think I'm simply whacked in the head. Who can respect somebody listening to Lady Gaga anyway, right? Right. Actually I think Lady Gaga wouldn't sound half bad if you took one of her records, smashed it with a hammer and then randomly pieced it together again, playing it at 150 BMP over a solid kick and bassline. "Ratatouille" probably doesn't sound very far from this, right with the screams of the horrified bystanders. Speaking of "Ratatouille", its one of the standout stars of the album. Here, the concept is perfected; we have rhythmic bursts of noises that wonderfully tickle you in five places, we have a perfectly hidden kick behind a deep and grinding bassline that simply does not quit; and finally we have a climax that takes the left half of your brain to hell and the right one to heaven. For some reason i feel like saying that this is music for real men. I just can't see a woman liking this, but if I ever do find one that does, I will make sure to marry her, unless she is fat, or looks like Lady Gaga in the face. "Sinus & Cosinus" is another of the exceptional tracks. Judging from the name, one might expect a track from the more mathematical school of dark psy which I talked about previously. The only connection this track has to mathematics however is that its probably an accurate depiction of what goes on in the head of a retarded person (or someone equivalent, lets say an economics student, or a Lady Gaga fan) when this person tries to understand basic trigonometry. More on note, this climax is damn beautiful and actually a melody (if I am not mistaken, which I might be), which I guess would make it the only melody on the album. Final comment: get this if you like dark psy.

Not bad at all, but I prefer the comparable release "Full Face - In Every Place" also from this year. Multi Evil doesn't really get completely nuts, even in the climaxes, also most tracks are very low on lower-mid frequency action which contributes to a sound that isn't very absorbing (or perhaps "full" in some sense.) A third point is that most complexity in the tracks come from just a single typical dark synth sound, as opposed to a plethora of blips and blops and what not (see Full Face). All in all, I can't really call these points weaknesses, because they are clearly part a cohesive style chosen by the artist, a style well applied. The rest is simply taste.

New Mindsphere tracks on SoundCloud
longloststar replied to Somazoid's topic in Free Music Promotion
Are you working on a new album currently? Your previous is really excellent! -
I much prefer the old Funckarma sound with the warm/nostalgic/emotional-yet-subtle melodies. Here, there is little of that (same holds true for most of the duo's previous album.)

Artha - Influencing Dreams

I'm very impressed by this, sounds like a mixture of old Infected Mushroom and new school GOA. Production is excellent but not without soul, a beautiful release for sure. -
Your opinion is wrong. P.S. This is my opinion, you don't have to agree with it.

This is a solid GOA album, that I have enjoyed quite a bit all the way from its release. Among its merits are some highly energetic melodies with a pleasant emotional touch and overall uplifting breath, we find nice some variation and boring moments are very rare. This is however far from a masterpiece. Its visions are too disjunct and the musical style is too simple to create an interesting spiritual and intellectual unity of the tracks. This feeling of "obvious compositionality" - that is, the elementary musical pieces are too clear to the listener - runs deeper than the structure of tracks composing the album, it is in fact true also for the tracks. Most tracks suffer from the very common condition of being much climax dependent, and as a listener I find myself often more waiting for melodical climaxes than enjoying interesting musical structures. These negatives are unfortunately more rules than exceptions for music in general, and it is easy to bypass them. Overall, however, this is an enjoyable album that is on par with other high quality GOA releases, but lacks compared to the true masterpieces (Ra - 9th is one such current.)

Actually good full on? I'll be all over this for sure. The sound is very thick and often quite groovy, pretty much devoid of cheesy melodies. A solid addition to the slim list of full on with integrity.

Maybe Vibe Tribe?

Nothing short of an amazing album. A thematically consistent and gorgeous journey through the deserts of the east and mystical times since long past, Astralasia's style and sense of simultaneously mellow and beautiful yet-only-slightly emotionally melodies has only been matched by themselves historically. "Whose Sane Hussein" is indeed a misstep, but the rest is classic stuff.
-
Clearly the style is generic progressive. The problem isn't that it sounds bad, because it does sound good, the problem is that it just sounds slightly better than roughly two thousand other progressive albums. I guess this is a critique against the genre rather than the album however; overall a good progressive album.

I would like this album much more an octave lower, find it hard to relax to music this high pitch.

I think, sometimes a movie concept is too vague to give the creator any kind of ownership of that concept. I mean, in this case its just two people fleetingly meeting away from home. But I guess that if you like Before Sunrise more than LIT then it seems unfair how much acclaim the latter has gained.

I think the fractals you make look best when observable fractal level is low, that is when repetition isn't too "small". In the picture above for example, the smaller patterns look like distortion or something. Others look cool though.

Saw it yesterday and hated it. Unlike the book and the older cartoon i didn't find the nonsensical story charming, it felt more like a bizarre fantasy movie, thoroughly predictable, lacking both a real sense of adventure and likable characters. I agree about Alice being hot however.

Home made darkpsy
longloststar replied to Toxic Amygdala's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Pretty cool stuff you made. What program are you using? I just started making my own dark the other week, so I don't have anything ready yet but when I do I'll post it. -
I listened to Light Combusting and some melodies are off key, read some basic music theory if you haven't already. Its not very difficult to learn. Good luck in the future!

Steve Roach - The Magnificent Void An incredible album, the track "Infinite Shore" is probably my favorite in the genre.
