There you go Sounds like the decent end of the fullon spectrum.

If I just saw the cover I would guess it's a new one from Mighty Quinn Records. That seems rather unlikely though.

Goastore.ch is good too. So is Wirikuta. Though every time I've ordered from either stuff has taken ages to arrive.

Well the meaning of numerical scores varies from reviewer to reviewer (which is why I no longer give them), but I should point out that 9.5 is the highest score I've ever given in a review. And with good reason, Wonderwise is one of the best albums of the decade. e: Oh, I've just realised you were talking about your score rather than mine. How on Earth do you assign scores to three significant figures? e2: By calculating the arithmetic mean of your individual track scores, evidently.

It's the Jam & Spoon mix, not the original, that is considered the first trance track IIRC. However KLF's What Time is Love sounds more like Goa trance than Age of Love, and that came out two years earlier.

Where's the ' PSYNEWS BEST OF 2010' thread at?
Rotwang replied to psytones's topic in General Psytrance
2010 isn't even over yet. For the last two years (IIRC) the deadline for voting has been the end of February, since many of us haven't got round to listening to all the year's releases that interest us yet, and even after we've done so it takes at least several weeks to form a reliable opinion. So what's the hurry? The Best of the Noughties vote, on the other hand... -
You like darkpsy now ?! I haven't heard any of the three comps you mention, but based on your description of what you like perhaps you should check out VA - Boom Shiva Freaks (my review). Big +1 to what people have said about Kindzadza - Insoluble, probably my fave psytrance album of the year (my review). Other than that, here's a rundown of 2010 darkpsy albums I don't think anybody's mentioned yet: Kiriyama - Reach Escape Velocity: amazing darkpsy/Goa crossover, everyone should pay attention to this. Axis Mundi - One Foot in Fantasy: I really like this a lot, though it won't be to everyone's taste. Tracks are filled with bizarre tempo changes and build-ups which resolve in unexpected ways, it's a confusing mess the first time one hears it but a real grower. Benefits a lot from being played very loud for some reason. VA - Brainzcrew: pretty typical Parvati fare, almost every track is fun to listen to but somehow it fails to make much impression overall. Mind Explorer - Swamp Shamaniac: kind of a weird one this, it's varied and many tracks are somewhat experimental but not all of them work. Some are great, but none of it is particularly memorable.

Also, to anyone who doubts the awesomeness of My Girl Farts, I say BEHOLD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2cdmxMlO9Y&fmt=18

Plenty of people here dislike the above genres.

Correct! Thanks. I made it all in MS Paint.

Maybe V/A - Air (Altar Records)? e: No, wait. Transwave - Helium

I'd like to know your opinion of this.
-
I have no idea. How about a clue?

I don't have any of their other albums, but based on what I found on YouTube it sounds nothing like their other work (which I didn't like at all). See my review for more info.

I haven't heard much AP but what I have heard hasn't really grabbed me. But I love MFG so I voted for them. As luck would have it I'll be getting a factory sealed copy of New Kind of World for Christmas

Are you after films that are specifically about stoners, or just films by/for stoners? If the former then The Big Lebowski might qualify (and is great). If the latter then I'm pretty sure that Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theatres for DVD was designed for people who are off their tits.

V/A - Boom Shiva Freaks (Digital Shiva Power) Press Release: This being a compilation of forest trance (in the sense of sounding like Derango, rather than sounding like Ka-Sol), I suppose I should admit something up front: all forest trance sounds pretty much the same to me. Although this may be a sign that I don't understand the genre, I do like the genre. But if I didn't know otherwise I could easily believe that this was an artist album rather than a V/A, made by any of the artists featured on this or other similar albums. So perhaps my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt, though I hope you will at least check out the samples (linked below) and see what you think. Tracks (click titles for Saiko Sounds sample): 1) Access Gremlin & Nxum - Computer Malfunction 7:26 Great opening track. It has a funky bassline and lots of gorgeous crunchy noise, as well as some fantastic use of stereo. Shortly before it ends a surprise key change opens the door to an awesome climax. 2) Farebi Jalebi - Syzygy 7:50 Another good one, Syzygy is a rather splendid collection of bubbly whizzing noises. Compared to the previous track it lacks direction somewhat, though I find this to be the case with most forest psy. The fact that it doesn't go anywhere is not really important, because where it starts is a good place to be. 3) Arjuna & Seb - Rusty 7:20 Like Computer Malfunction this is built around a cool bassline. Otherwise it relies heavily on scraping, metallic timbres (come to think of it "rusty" is a very apt description) which grate a bit, but is enjoyable nonetheless. 4) Savage Scream - Flux 8:10 This doesn't sound much like the rest of Savage Scream's output, but it does sound very much at home on this CD. Many strange echoey voices and tidal waves of swooshing sounds, while the meandering bassline sort of does its own thing. 5) Digitalian & Arjuna - Dosti Connection 8:15 Not much to be said about this one. It's more of the same and good as one would expect, but not particularly memorable. 6) BioSynthesis & Farebi Jalebi - Katja Dimensions 7:40 Katja Dimensions sounds a lot like Grapes of Wrath and the Meteloids' Tits on Fire album, and that's a good thing. It also features an oddly-chosen sample from the third X-men movie, which doesn't add much in my opinion. 7) Digitalian - Boom ShiVa Freaks 8:18 This one is in a very similar vein to the previous track, so once again there's not much to say except that it's very good; nice timbres, nice build-ups and a nice bassline to get your head bobbing. 8) Maniac Bubbles - Maniacs on the Run 7:04 This is excellent. There's not as much going on here as on most of the other tracks - it's one of the few with a conventional one-pitch darkpsy bassline, for example - but it's very effective. Strikes just the right balance between being psychedelic enough to be interesting and aggressive enough to make one want to move one's feet. 9) Alien Mental - Temple Bells 9:34 Rather odd, this one. It sounds somehow chilled out despite its 148 BPM tempo, partly because of the way it aimlessly doodles around without ever settling on doing one thing for very long, and partly because it's fairly sparse by Alien Mental's standard. 10) Mystic Mutants - Maharishi 7:43 Perhaps in deference to the tradition of ending with a chillout track, Maharishi is downtempo, though it's far too sinister to be called chillout. It's very well made (in fact the production on every track of the album is impeccable, and this is no exception) but it isn't all that pleasant to listen to - an interesting experiment that doesn't really work. Overall: This album will hold few surprises for seasoned darkpsy listeners; if you've heard Tumult or Ukalen or any number of other records then you know what to expect. But among the many similar compilations that have come out recently this is, I believe, one of the better ones. If you're looking for something to scratch a forest-shaped itch then look no further. Favourite Tracks: 1(!), 2, 7, 8(!), 9

Correct! Your turn.

Nobody? It's a darkpsy album from 2010.

Inspired by Ormion's fun game from a while back, how about another pictionary topic? Here's an easy one to start with: Reply with the artist and album name.

+1 Have you heard this? I don't know if anyone else likes it but I think it's great.
