Cubase SX Output advice needed
sirade replied to sirade's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
I have never gotten the hard drive to give me an issue. In fact i have never seen it show 1 pins. I do however get the CPU to max out, but that can easily be fixed by freezing a midi or converting to an audio track. I have been in the Information Technology <I.T.> industry for the last 6 years. So with my experience i might recomend the following. Simple stuff 1st. 1. Defrag your HD. 1st cleanout temp and recycle bin 2. Make sure all drivers are up to date. Including your mother board bios. 3. Depending on your hard drive ide or sata I'd swap out your ide cabel or ribbon. there is new technology with the cabels that allow faster bit transfer. Cheap fix 4. power supply issues, lack of power due to video card or other internal hardware can cause issues and a chain effect through out your computer. Try opening your box and unplugging your CD rom. Easy fix. Cheap enough to purchase a new more powerful power supply. 5. New hard drive. Newer technologies have faster bit transfer. Hard drives are cheap enough to get a decent HD with fast Bit transfer. 6. Memory. I have 2 gb of ram in my pc. Ram is cheap but make sure you get the correct type of ram for your mother board. Don't know if this will help but it might help somone out there. -

Cubase SX Output advice needed
sirade replied to sirade's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
NVM i figured it out. I was able to port all 8 speaker out puts correctly to a stereo output in cubase. I need a better sound card but sb live beats te onboard card i have. -
me: SB live 24bit with asao4all V.2.7 , 2 in 8 out Cubase SX v 3.1.1 My question is in the output bus section im using the 6.0 music out and placing certain track on different speakers locations. However when i try to record it only offer me the first two channel. How do i record the midi to an audio track and keep the speaker output location. further more how do i keep the speaker locations with the final mix to CD? I have done some more experimenting witht he outputs. I can get the 6 speaker output correct if i export to a WMA file but all tries with export to wave or mp3 states that only the 1st 2 channels will be recorded. I'm hoping i over looked something simple here. I have been experimenting with the output buses and the 6.0 music is my fav set up so far.

Thanks for the feed back. Often an outside perspective can point out areas in need of work and offer techniques not thought of. Well let me see started messing around with rebirth and fruity loops and Acid in the mid 90's. Got Cubase and Reason about 1 year ago. Been strugling with writters block til recently when i went to the Love Parade and had sensory over load with all the different types of great music. Since the last 2 weeks i have been laying track after track. Feels good to be rid of the writers block so serious making tracks for about 6 monthes. I presently use Cubase SX, Reason, alot of VST's. I also have Fruity loops, Alberton live and an Emu xboard25. pc is a 3ghz 2gb ram I know i need to work on my mastering techniques alot more.

You been workin on your track to long When
sirade replied to sirade's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
Yeah that shower one happens often. pretty funny stuff -
Notice: Requires 6 - 12 hours working on the same song. 1. In the last hour, the 13 changes you made to your track brought you back in a complete circle sounding exactly the same as when you started. 2. When anyone trys to talk to you thier voice sounds Phased, Flanged and reverbed out like the Voices off Hallucinogen's shakey snaker. 3. While out in public any sound that has the slightest rythm you are able create a song in your head and claim it is your ultimte masterpiece, then counting the moments til you get home. 4. You catch yourself walking everywhere at 145 Bpm. 5. Your girlfriend wakes you up in the middle of the night asking you to stop using her back as a Synth Keybord. all i can think of for now.. please add if you have any.

Tips, Tricks and Music Theory
sirade replied to sirade's topic in Music Making and Production/Industry
great feed back. thanks... Also why do all the great ideas come while i'm in the shower when there is nothing to write these great ideas down. I'm going to invest in some crayon soaps. the stuff i played with when i was a little kid and write them on the wall in the shower 8). -
Heya, Thought i'd start a post were we can discuse any tips, tricks or methods used for creating songs. Well, i just started making music again. in the past i only used fruity loops and rebirth. I have finally upgraded. I now use cubase sx3, reason 2.5 and have an emu xboard 25 midi keyboard pc 3ghz, 2gb ram, 180gb hd. I'm creting Psy/Goa trance. My biggest problem i have encountered with making songs is knowing where to start. So i was hoping if some of you guys could discuse your ideas in the creation of a song. For instance, Do you lay a drum, bass, or lead down first? Do you start at the begging of the song or middle? I have made some great combinations of tracks <patterns>. but i'm finding it dificult knowing where to use them at . What i have done so far is make a patern, drop it in the middle of my song and work my way out towards both the begining and the end. Also allow the song to morph to the intended pattern in the middle. Well any tips or tricks would be useful. Sirade-
