Remixes that sound completelly different that the original tracks
Paul Eye replied to Ormion's topic in General Psytrance
The original and the monkey mix (which I prefer) aren't that different: and then there's The Visitors remix: -
This sounds alarmingly similar to my situation. I used Impulse Tracker from '97 to '99 and haven't really made any music since. After that it's been random fucking around in Jeskola Buzz with endless experiments trying to do weird stuff instead of music, and in the past 10 years I've maybe started up the software a couple times a year just to see that my inspiration is still not really back. I still have all the files (IT and Buzz) and one of my tracks made in IT was released remastered on Neogoa's Celestial Transvibrations comp, but that's it. I've been thinking of releasing the best tracks I did in IT some day, but currently I can't afford to pay for proper remastering so the project is still on hold.

New cd's available in the Suntrip webshop :)

I've never received a single broken jewelcase from you -
The temporary new releases shutdown is completely intentional and AFAIK unrelated to the server migration, as Basilisk seems to be working on something unspecified. No official announcement yet, apart from this: from http://www.ektoplazm.com/distribution (scroll to the bottom of the page to the Status section)

The most ingenious use of Samples 2.0

One of my all time favourites Logic Bomb - The Third Revelation: "music is more than mathematics, and I am much more than a program with musical subroutines" Questionmark. -
16bit/44.1kHz and they're just as good as CD/WAV, as FLAC is lossless compression. Anything higher is obviously "better" than CD but it's always negotiable if you can hear the difference

Not much love for the downtempo section

No love for Key To The Innerverse? That melody at 4:02 and 6:30 until the final climax is one of the best ones ever made IMO Couldn't find the full length version on its own, but it's track 1 on this compilation.

Hands down best production quality / mixing EVER
Paul Eye replied to astralprojection's topic in General Psytrance
Androcell - Entheomythic Smooth as butter all the way through, perfectly gloomy mix and Kevin Metcalfe's mastering is fantastic as usually -

I'm mostly on the same tracks as Imba here. The first track needs to be a good intro to the set, not just 5-10 seconds of some random noise and then 2 hours of kbbbkbbbkbbbkbbb without any pauses if I'm playing goa or something that's to be danced to (I know enough DJs who do this and it's irritating as fuck). And concerning this, I also like to keep some chilly/cooloff parts every now and then, if for nothing else, then for dramatic effect and it also goes with my philospohy of playing music and not just a soundtrack for mindless partying. And I use effects very sparingly, most often a delay on the outro of a track (or at the transition to the next one), but in a way that it blends nicely into the next one. Maybe the occasional light flanger, but most often not, it just sounds like shit if you do it wrong

Yeah, Xones are *lovely*, unfortunately not too many organizers or venues have one (or not too many I've come across). Of course DJMs are nice too but basically anything else is either meh or complete rubbish. Don't even talk to me about Numark mixers

Easily my favourite of the series so far. The tracks on the previous volumes are stylistically a bit all over the place, but this is surprisingly consistent and to my tastes. The only track I could do without is Yet Another Version Of Let's Turn On that goes exactly nowhere. And not exactly a surprise but Hux Flux - Time Slices eats the rest of the tracks practically for breakfast And I just love that sample in Mystery Machine - Psychedelic Concentration.

What music are you listening to right now?
Paul Eye replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
Seriously the best psytrance I've heard in years. If this doesn't make your head nod and you booty shake I don't know what -

You might like these ones, a Finnish guy -
I have quite an eclectic style of DJing, especially when it comes to playing downtempo (which is still my forté and my preference). I don't do much tempo sync but prefer mixing tracks in keys that go well with each other. Of course I don't usually do completely ridiculous tempo changes from one track to another (but it happens sometimes if I'm feling adventurous). And even if I don't do much tempo sync I like to align measures when transitioning from one track to another, and not just play intros/outros on top of each other (because I usually like playing tracks practically from start to finish). And yes, I use a laptop. This style of mixing would be a bit tricky (if not impossible) to do with CDJs. And also, I can't beatmatch by ear for shit so the laptop is rather necessary especially when playing goa, but in the end it's a tool and doesn't exactly do anything automatically (because I've set my software not to do any of this). As for the structure of the set, I think of it as a dramatic curve. It can have lots of different shapes depending what I'm after for a particular set, but it's still always a curve. A flat line would be the most boring thing ever And at this point I actually need to do some planning if I want to play a satisfactory set. My music collection is nearing 14000 tracks so even if I know it quite well I still need to do some digging to find suitable tracks (and tracks I haven't played that much).

Well that was an emotional rollercoaster, spiced with some rather corny dialogue every now and then
