Aavepyörä - Hengen aurinko
Paul Eye replied to Taika-Kim's topic in Artist News and Labels announcements
That must be one of the most beautiful album promo texts I've read in a long time (if ever). Will get it, sooner or later -
It's there for sure, it's quite old so you need to scroll down, or just go to my downtempo playlist Japanese

Some stuff worth downloading: Fuzzonaut - Fictional Grooves. Goa-ish stuff with a funny twist. Limiti - Information Is Creation. Goa-ish foresty stuff, quite interesting. Nibana - Ask The Universe. Downtempo with a steady beat (deep trance). Haven't listened to this in a while but I remember it as being quite nice. JaraLuca - Perpetuum Mobile. Another fine recent Neogoa release. Atman Construct - Weaver's Dreams. Glitchy nice downtempo. Hinkstep - My Forest Queen. Marvellous downtempo goodness. Not much CD recommendations beyond what you already posted. Maybe the new comp from Goa Madness Records, and Skizologic - Robotized.

So those people from southwestern Finland decided to throw another round of this rather oddly named party. I played 22-23 so I decided to take it quite easy this time. Tracklist: Prometheus - Arcadia Magik New Born - A Fairy In A World Of Machines GoaTree - Memento Mortis Prana - Alien Pets (Trinodia Remix) Electric Universe - Rain (Astral Projection Remix) Radical Distortion - Sunrise Zone (Acid Mix) Artha - Vocal Distortion Omnivox - Weapon Of Mass Enlightenment

Some highlights from my current Steam wishlist, won't get anything new before autumn anyway as I spent most of this winter inside with my games Now it's summer, parties, gigs, festivals, fresh air, sunshine (hopefully) Dark Souls II: Scholar Of The First Sin (was about to get DSII when I got tired of Skyrim until I learned that they're doing this new version) GTA V (after the hugely disappointing fucked up PC port of GTA IV, I hope they did it right this time) Postal 2: Paradise Lost (well the original P2 was hilarious, this should be good Styx: Master Of Shadows (my characters in Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas turned sneaky, so this might be just up my alley as it's sneaky by design) Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell (maybe an overpriced DLC disguised as a standalone game but I just adore the silliness of SR, will probably wait until it goes on sale)

Some things would be better left untouched :/

I can already see someone taking a more, perhaps "unconventional" approach to goa trance and releasing something along the lines of stuff from Koyote, Matsuri and Blue Room (to name a few). And then along comes someone whining that this isn't goa trance at all, where's the euphoria and the cosmic swirling melodies and so forth. To be fair, what happened to me in 1999/2000 was the same kinda reaction when things started to go prog-tech-minimal-fullon. I hated it, but still tried to get into it until I gave up and took a dive into the downtempo pool. Which also brings me to another point, I started going to parties in 1999 when the sound was already radically changing, so I never experienced a "proper" goa trance party back in the days. My current goa trance rediscovery has been going on for 5-6 years or so, and I'm also finding shitloads of music I'd probably have hated 15 years ago (actually much of the mainly German tech/techno-ish stuff like The Delta, Children Of Paradise, X-Dream post-Radio, Montauk P, Cwithe, along with the aforementioned Koyote/Matsuri/Blue Room and later TIP stuff etc.) Actually the only proper goa trance parties I've experienced are the once-in-a-summer oldschool parties we've had since 2012 (hi Oopie!). So I'm not really "chasing my youth" as someone put it. I'm (re)discovering it in a way. And now that my social awkwardness is finally easing up at least to some extent, I'm actually learning to know some people (I know almost exactly nobody from my first about 10 years of going to parties). And Psychaos, Slide, UX, Cydonia, Process, Xenomorph, Technossomy to some extent, Darshan, Infernal Machine etc. You know what I'm getting at. And those you posted are all more or less pure gold (Tales From The North maybe not so much). Don't forget PortaMento and BlackStarrFinale and Omnivox and Crossing Mind, and...

Most underground psytrance you ever listened to?
Paul Eye replied to Manuser's topic in General Psytrance
My own tracks from ~16 years ago. Maybe 5 people (excluding myself) have ever heard them. -
I thought it's quite common knowledge in the psy scene that Jake is no more. From Discogs: "Jake Stephenson passed away on the 22nd of January 2005 after an epilepsy attack."

Yes but you still didn't answer why it's in the natural trance section. And actually, why is Kataphasis - Earth Magick in there too? Because they're tagged as "Tribal" on Ektoplazm? Overall I find it a bit odd that you include tribal/natural as a genre/style of its own. You said Isn't tribal/natural also more like a colour?

From UX's facebook page a few days ago: "New song UX - Aud‡ssey [ The Realm Of A New Dawn Mix ] completed 127 bpm a big trip of 10:54 min for the forthcoming album in the making" So it's still "forthcoming".

Yeah it's quite odd that I even remember this as I don't really follow the suomisoundi scene... Forum topic here

And please don't take this as me being a selfish know-it-all prick. Chillout/downtempo/psychill/psybient/etcetc just happens to be quite close to my heart It's what I started my DJing with.

This goes to show again how wildly differing opinions people have on genre definitions Some people would probably put all of those albums in my list in a "psybient" genre and be done with it, I'd like to stick them in a (psychedelic) downtempo genre. Also the psybient genre (being an amalgamation of psychedelic+ambient) has become somewhat convoluted as people's view on what's "ambient" differs wildly depending who you're talking to. I like keeping the (almost) totally beatless soundscapes as "ambient" in the classic sense, and the slower/chilled stuff with a beat as "downtempo" with influences and touches from basically anywhere, psychedelic or not. Some people again define "ambient" (or psybient, see above) as basically anything that's not psytrance or goa but "downtempo". Yes, it's an endless swamp you get stuck and lost in and can keep arguing about until the end of time and then some Sorry for the mess, I'm having troubles keeping my thoughts together.

As the downtempo (as I like to call it) genre can be broken down into practically as many subgenres as psytrance, this would really need its own presentation instead of being an offshoot or subgenre of psytrance Zero Cult "original psybient"? No way.

Nice work, must have taken quite some effort to put it all together. Still, I don't think I've ever seen the term "goa ambient" used anywhere else than here on Psynews (no, really). Or here's where I first encountered the term (after 15 years in the scene) along with rather vague and/or wildly inaccurate definitions. But that's just my nitpicking And your psybient recommendations seem to consist mainly of Ultimae artists and/or releases (I could possibly help getting some variety in there if necessary).
