Double Dragons has to be my fave! Had the good fortune to see Doof live at Big Love in the UK back in 1996.

I think Merrow's album Born Underwater sounds very much like 90s Goa too. I was listening to it again last night and there are definite MWNN and Infinity Project likenesses.

Personally I don't like music to carry a political message. For a start, if I don't align with the message's point of view, I can't enjoy the music. Psytrance / Goa should be primarily music to dance to and allow the listener to take whatever else they can perceive from it.

I used to think that about Kindzadza and Psykovsky even more so. You really get used to it after listening to this kind of music for a while though and the high BPMs stop being so offputting!

I thought I'd really gone off Orbital and hadn't played any of their albums for years. I went through their first four again recently though and was pleasantly surprised - much better than I remembered!

I'd agree with that. The book was a worthwhile read, although quite depressing (in a similar vein to Dr Bloodmoney - which I thought far superior,) and not as well-developed or believable as the film. I certainly didn't feel much sympathy for Deckard in the book!

It took a couple of listens to get into it, as it's quite a departure from the sound of the last two albums, but I love it now!

Well spotted & thanks! I can't recall why I started storing them latest to earliest. I think probably so the newest release felt like it was on top / at the front. Please don't make me switch them all back!!! I love looking through the albums people have collected on this thread!

I liked the fist part of the opening ceremony, but it went off the boil after that IMHO. I'm a keen mountainbiker - so will be watching the MTB XC racing and enjoyed the road racing too. Will watch the time trials and possibly some track cycling. Mostly (other than cycling) I tend to find the more obscure sports interesting - like shooting & archery, but must admit, have also been amazed by the awesome gymnastic displays! I think it's always great to see someone perform, right at the top of their game. The human body (and mind) is an incredible thing.

I bought the English version of the book (and DVD) and must admit, I liked it a lot. I think the fact that many of the chapters are by different authors is good, in as much as it gives several different viewpoints on the complex and contradictory Goa / psytrance scene. It's not an in depth study, but then it's not just a lightweight "isn't trance great" advert either. Some of the authors' standpoints I side with, other's less so. Overall I think it gives a reasonable overview of the scene and is a worthwhile celebration of the music, visual arts, people and major psytrance festivals. It makes no claims to be comprehensive. I'd say it's well worth getting for the photos alone. They are really stunning. The DVD is good too IMHO. Mainly a montage of festival and outdoor parties set to music, but with a few snippets of interviews dropped in at opportune moments. Only part I didn't like was the Spacetribe "Deep Purple Haze" track towards the end, but that's just personal taste - it's not a style of psytrance that I enjoy. The package is quite expensive, enough to put a lot of people off maybe, but considering it's going to appeal to a pretty limited market, I don't reckon it's too bad. Certainly Waterstones have similar size and quality books at the same kind of money.

Hi everyone! I'm from the UK. I got into Goa Trance back in 1995, after going to Spacehopper in Birmingham. Defected to techno at the end of the '90s when the local scene died out, until I re-discovered Psytrance in 2008, immediately embarking on a mission to buy loads of music that I'd missed out on. I like most of the spectrum of electronic psymusic, right from hi-tech darkpsy to chilled out dub. Not so into the more commercial stuff, though. Joined this forum as there is a big emphasis on releases and reviews.
