Artist: Sephira Title: Imagination in Motion Label: MerKaBa Records Released: October 2011 Tracklist 1. Where's My Map (Intro) 2. Learning To Walk 3. More Than Human 4. Memory Access 5. Life Changes 6. Destiny 7. Lost Vegas 8. The Beginning Is The End 9. Shamans Lullaby What??!? No review for this record? I hope the reason is because all of you are lazy writers, like me. What?? 30 pages of useful information about the new-upcoming-and-outstanding AP album? Well, then it can't be your lazyness, must be some sort of slipping under the radar. Cause I think that a lot of you would like this. Matthew Crick's debut as Sephira is released through Ektoplazm and MerKaBa Records, got really good feedback there and went quite high in Ekto's Best of 2011 Poll (no.4). I would place it even higher and for sure not only because of OOOD's mastering. Where's My Map is, well, an intro and I'm happy that Sephira hadn't searched for too long how to get into this record. Learning To Walk starts with some gentle breakbeats and you can already here where this ride is going. It takes its time, it is spacious, it is moving slightly, nice melodies and spirals are passing by. If this is how Sephira learned to walk, I can't wait to hear him running. More Than Human goes in the same direction, slowly built, melancholic and trancing. Whale-like sounds, an ongoing melody and these well-put breaks and effects give me an underwater feeling and let me dive deep. Memory Access starts instantly, but we are still at 120 bpm. Well, what to say, after the first two tracks I don't feel the need to describe more - I only love how the tracks are evolving and rolling and sounding. And I want a shot of hazelnut schnapps right now. And to push repeat. Life Changes and so the tempo. It's gettin faster, we're in progressive territory now while still enjoying Sephira's deep rolling basslines, spacey feelings, subtle melodies - I'm writing this while standing and assshaking. Destiny seems to mean here still lovely melodies, thoughtout effects and breaks, outerspace and melancholic yet dark overtone. Same recipe in every track? Boring? Well, I'm still standing. Lost Vegas is another great deep and dark track. But it is somehow outweighed from the great journey which was going on here before. The Beginning Of The End is the longest track on this album and I really really hope that this won't be the end for us to experience your music, Matthew. This is another beautiful building and sedate walking piece of trance which brings you back with a slow build-down. I'm sitting again. Shamans Lullaby is the closer and honestly I don't care much for it at all. Imagination In Motion is a beautiful Deep Trance Album, full of emotion with a dark overtone and a great journey to listen to completely. The structure of the music may sound repetitive and simple, but believe me, it's well thought out, uplifting and knows how to entrance. And by saying simple I don't mean brainless uninspired sameness. You can rather hear how this music flows out of Matthew's hands easily. So, what else to say? Nothing except: Wow, still surprised that this hadn't been reviewed before. What went wrong T2MU? You get everything, don't you? Well, it's never to late, pull off your Iono underwear and have a listen. I'll go for another hazelnut. You go here!!

hi jon, how was that ? thought about to read either Clavell's Shogun or this one... btw, finished Josh Bazell's Beat the Reaper and was highly entertained. it's bloody, bizzarre, hilarious - easy read and completely meaningless but with the most brutal ending ever !!

this might be one of the best ep's i've ever heard!! all tracks are twisted, funky and melodic in-your-face-journeys. there's not even one minute which sounds like another, always evolving, changing and twirling around, and when you think you reached a climax, it turns into another direction. gives you multiple goosebumps and huge smiles. rarely a cover described the music as good as here. u love diverse unpredictable music - TRY !!

i don't see that. especially in reviews which have more replies, people talk about what they like more and what they don't like at all. and if you read the reviews from the busiest reviewer alive (thanks a lot, btw) you can't see a lot of five-stars if the intention of the "post a short review" topic is to share some simple first thoughts about releases i would definitely change the topic title. in "recommend whatever or sth", i don't care, but delete the word review! because the title and the thread themselves undermine the review section. look, there are 3 mentions of the new digicult album, and the first mention isn't even a short review - add a picture and it fits the review rules. and on top, T2MU reviewed this release one month before. i mean, why to bother to write proper reviews when people comment it elsewhere?? so, at least to me, the short review topic sends the signal "don't bother about the review section, wanna share some thoughts? - go here!". proof? - most of the albums mentioned there with more than ten words were already reviewed (no offense Sideffect, but i don't understand why you haven't posted them in the proper section?!?) so, my vote: change the "short review" topic in sth like "recommend sth", "share first impression" or whatever and don't write more than one or two sentences. if you want to write more (which means it is more than just a thought) open a new topic in the review section and don't care about picture and tracklist, you can edit it later. to me, discogs or psyshop link is enough for the beginning. thus, don't oppose the review section, change their rules! that said, i have to vote for yes???!?

oldschoolhommage !! nice intro, nice effects, wild gallop !! i think when i had heard this in the beginning it would be a straight 10, but it is my first time today, so maybe only 8 or 9 ?... ah fuck, i really like it, why nitpicking, this is a mad ride - 10/10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db_t9s3ds0c

holy shit, a genius

i know only his ep - dreaming in pieces, i like all the tracks there, so since it's a free download you can't go wrong according to the samples and some opinions in the review section his latest output as terrafractyl is also worth it. i like the funkyness and playful melodies but i don't know if it that's good. i mean it sounds like full-on, damn, i listen to the samples right now again and i rrreally like the cab calloway skit -
some more: future sound of london - lifeforms leftfield - leftism hidden orchestra - night walks phew, well, there is not so much psytrance out there, but the first albums which come to my mind (besides zubzubs - primate which i recommend to every psyhead) are cosma - nonstop subconsciousmind - intermezzo extended (free!) klangstrahler projekt - im rausch der sinne

hot girls ??!? i heard that there was a topic about sexual fantasies...
-
wow, that's a pretty hard question !!!!! cause what you mentioned is like the top of their genres. you want something similar? nearly impossible i believe, cause everything would sound like somehow copied (like shulman, entheogenic...). you want something else, but organic, melodic, psychedelic? hmmm, maybe try Capsula for psychedelic downtempo, try Massive Attack for intelligent trippy ambience (although i think you already know them), try Zubzub for psychedelic and funky uptempo (band of former Ozrics bass player Zia Geelani) or try Tool if you're into progressive rock

old and new combined - what does it mean? only few sentences but combined with picture and tracklist?
-
exactly!! imagine this thread is evolving, countless pages of short reviews to dive through, okay, would be also nice, but it belongs to the review section! i don't mind if it's only a few sentences. it causes attention, look at the digicult mentions. minimal standard for reviews? picture, tracklist, tracklength, bpm? pfff - post a discogs link
