1500 with MIDI... but well, there are tons of 303 clones available, few of them build the same way with nearly the same components (without a stepsequencer though), sounding very very close. thats the reason roland can never build 303s again, so many companies depend on it. check them clones out if you want, depending on which model you want, you can get one at ebay for 100€ already (mam mb33), heres a comparison, samples provided: http://www.ladyada.net/make/x0xb0x/samples.html the comparison is on a 303 clone manufacturer though site, claiming his 303 (which comes as construction kit) to be the best anyway.

on another forum some dude compared his 303 with abl2. (provided samples to us) the results were pretty amazing, although i think the audiorealism filter is losing it with higher cutoff, the difference gets pretty obvious. i asked him what he thinks about phoscyon and he said that the accents are really bad.. ive never had a real TB so... i love phosyon and tau, though

+1 and you dont need a step sequencer... you sequence everything with midi (sampler) or just wav files. furthermore automisation is uber easy what are those things you have to click 40-50 times ?

eq. i´ve never done it myself, but i think it should be possible to cut (notch out) stuff like bass and drums and use only the leads... then put in your own bass and drums. or whatever you want to remix. actually i dont know if people really do this... it seems to be the only way if you dont have all individual tracks of a mixdown though.

buy core2duo as suggested, 2 gigs ram, sata hdd, and a decent soundcard (maybe 2nd hand), check out other threads for which soundcard to choose.
