  3. That he may rest in peace altough it never was my style of music... This is sad news indeed
  4. It's hard to give a certain border... but let's say that the music at least should be released on a psychedelic trance label, or the group should be trance-related... If there are really many people that want to make a top 5 of NON-psytrance we can maybe do that too
  5. Hello everybody! We decided to set up an "official" Best Of 2005 psychedelic trance music topic. Please, write down your TOP 5 (in the right order)! Even if you already did in another topic, please just copy and paste it here! This topic will be closed on the 1st of February, and then we will start counting... Every album on place 1 gets 5 points, place 2 gets 4 points etc... And then we will know Psynews's best album of 2005! Also, we have a very transparant way of voting then, EVERYONE can check that we are honest! Thanks alot and we hope to see TONS of replies here! Edit: To make it easier for you, we add these "clauses": - All posters can edit their threads as much as they want. The thread is open until we close it, on the 1st of february. So yes, you can still change your minds. - You can freely post your "best of 2005" list, may it be even longer than 5 releases, may it be splitted in genres and subgenres. We just kindly ask you to add also your Top 5 at the end of your post... like a best-of of your best-of. This way we will be able to make a calculation and present you a chart. Edit 2 : On the 1st of February, around 10:00AM CET this thread will be closed.. Thank you for your understanding.
  6. I'm 100% pro also but as said here, probably some people, that had to look years for certain cds/vinyls will not easily share it... But if you have any real plans, let me know, I'm willing to help as your point is véry true
  7. Nice thread indeed For me the story starts around 97-98 The thing is, I was listening to electronic music as long as I live thanks to my dad who liked Jazz, Blues, Classical... and Early New Beat, héhé (and now trance ) So I heard my first Goa-track, without realising in 94 because of an early trancemaster cd (Trancemaster 7, with the track Goa Subliminal on it, an early track by Asia 2001), I didn't get my attention tho, same for a Transwave track on a Trancemaster in 96 (I think nr 12) That changed in 97 I bought some cds back then, and one of them was "after-hour 2" http://www.discogs.com/release/139254 On this cd there were several goa and goa influenced tracks (for instance Grace was Paul Oakenfold, the Warlock track is 100% goa and also the Palefield Mountain track sounds very goa-ish), but the tracks I fell for 100% was Bypass Unit - Higher Spirituality I searched my collection and discovered another track of them called "Cruiser" on a cd called "Generation Tripomatic" My Webpage This was the point of no return, I checked the internet and ordered a cd of these guys... (Green Dreams), and there was a sticker on it " 100% goa trance" So I know at that time how my favourite style was called, soon I could find some Goa Heads in stores and there it all started of course! The first party for me happened in 98, it was mindblowing, I HATED going out before that because it was so dumb (for me) on those small local parties... But it changed SOOON I started to go out once every 3-4 weeks (lol, that was the amount of goa parties in Belgium) while the amount of parties increased my going out-amount increased too Around 2000 I also started dj-ing, and since that moment I go out almost every weekend and I spend most of the time with the music somehow (party-ing, running the label, dj-ing, just listening,...) Aaahh, Good old times
  8. Aha, it's my lucky day Arrived: The new James Reipas Solar Quest - Acidophilez Banco De Gaia - Maya Makyo's new album Celtic Records compilation (and some promos) All of them are lovely imo
  9. Well and untill today I haven't seen any cd!!! Altough I sended 2 cds in PERFECT condition
  10. You probably didn't crawl through all 4 pages, but it will be there next time (new version will come in a few days )
  11. Anoebis

    cd

487 sold cds and 750€ loss... (but I bought it )
  12. As said I'm not really familiar with that, so I made a branch of non psychedelic ambient (with FSOL - lifeforms as example). There are probably much more and much older ambient artists in different styles, but that is supposed to be a different scene I guess... maybe it would be an Idea Nick, to make a mindmap like that just about ambient? like that it can be linked with the psychedelic ambient... (in fact if you start like that that mindmap can become SOOO huge as you can link the Psy beats with Breakbeats/breakcore/DnB, the housy progressive with house etc etc) @ Seraph: héhé, thanks I was thinking of giving nitzhonot an entire branch, but it was never that important
  13. I'm listening to this very loud now... And oh my God... If they would release more "full on" like this I'd be in love again with this scene For me this is 100% Forest music, way too mad and psychedelic to be full on, even the basslines don't have the typical rhytm

Woow, you should start a label then! Copyrights are MUCH more expensive then 200€ when you are registered you forgot promotion (for a half page in Mushroom Magazine it's around 500e) you forgot mastering (at least 300-400, when done by big names more expensive) you forgot sending the cds everywhere (and if you print in Belgium and send cds to the distributor in London with DHL it is 200€ at least and I'm not talking about promos or something) And then I'm wondering which labels still sell more then 1000 cds (not we for sure), yeah, I'm wondering, what are the usual sales for a normal psy release these days?
  15. yes indeed... Can you make a list for me...? Like this: Old School ambient: -1 branch: psychedelic old school ambient: - Ethnic (for example Amaruvision) - Real Ambient (Solar Quest - Orgship) ..... (so there I need help) -1 branch not psychedelic old school ambient: There I need all help...
  16. Ok, I've just add a branch of psychedelic Trance (on my comp, not the one you can see) Old: - Kox Box New-er: - Morning Psychedelic Trance (classical Mushroom) - Psychedelic Trance (Logic Bomb) - Darker psychedelic Trance (Space Tribe - Religious Experience) @ Le Lotus Bleu Yep, but I need some more info about old school ambient... Maybe I should split that part into psychedelic and non-psychedelic... I have the feelink Nick Imzomniac knows alot about it... So where are you! Help us @leprachaun, please put them all in 1 post, that's easier
  17. That is for SURE in the clubby goa trance category for me (altough I love it)
  18. Go on, good one, you are right, I couldn't really label them in my categories... Are there more styles within that psychedelic trance style?
  19. the aim was to give a clear view to all people that CALL every party a goa party... While everybody really into this music knows that is NOT true The best option is, like Le Lotus Bleu said, calling it Trance and give it another main branch then... but I don't know enough about it to help... or otherwise I'll change it in: "Trance which is psychedelic" or (psychedelic) trance a big ps to everyone: who can give me an example of the subgenre Psychedelic Trance?
  20. Ok, thanks all for the input About the name for the whole genre... I have been discussing this a lot before I made this, and I decided to use the term psychedelic trance, simply because it is trance (that was my first idea), but as there is LOTS of other kinds of trance (club trance, dream trance, hard trance, trancecore,...) I called it psychedelic trance. Maybe I've should have written (psychedelic) trance, or even "trance which is psychedelic". So Psychedelic trance is not named behind any subgenre, is is just trance music which is psychedelic (and that's where our scene is all about I think). It's think it's terribly wrong to use the word GOA for today's full on or Progressive... Also because so many people hate the word GOA today for their music... (I hear artists complaining they've never been to goa... if I'm not mistaken Elysium, you said that too? So why calling it goa trance then) @ SPacemonkey: Dark madness, I used Grapes of Wrath for it, but I could have used Mushy Mystery for instance. For Dark minimal, I used Creeping Ambivalent Tendencies... Ambivalent Records has a very minimal but not progressive, dark sound... @ Cinos: Derango not forest music? You must be kidding! I know lots of forest artists and they all think it's thé modern definition of forest music! @Le Lotus Bleu: If you feel like making a part about modern trance, go ahead! That would mean old school trance (so everything you mentioned and all subgenres) but also all new kinds of trance (I mentioned more above) If you could make that all trance music would fit on 1 map!
  21. Well, Highlight Tribe & Secret Vibes do fit in some parts the ethnic goa trance, ethnic progressive (when it is more just a bassline with ethnic elements) or ethnic ambient (as you said). If they make "real" tribal music, without any trance aspects, they do not fit here, as this is not really part of psychedelic trance In the ambient part there should be a dubby section indeed (OTT, East of River Ganges,...) Let me explain my idea of downtempo Downtempo is all psychedelic music under 125 BPM more or less but with trancy elements I used to call all beatless music Chill before, but I've changed my mind to "real" ambient This is all personal of course But if some people want to help with Ambient, please write down how you would organise the old school and "new" section
  22. Good point, trance used to be melodic all the time, so ok, next version I will change it to morning... @ Dajek, which artists would you simply call "psychedelic trance"? Isnt there any category they would fit? And The Lone Deranger fits partly in the Typical Goa Trance branche and partly in the Acidic Goa Trance branche (depends on the songs) The same for IFO, partly typical goa trance (Alcyone!!) and partly acidic goa trance (Taygeta!), and the last track is ambient... About "dark trance", I know it is mentioned 2 times, but that's where Dark trance had it's existance of course... And putting it only in dark trance is not enough imo as there were quiet alot of dark goa trance releases (so that Dark old school is really a hard subcategory) @Nick Inzomniac, I'm not really into old school ambient, except for all RTTS releases, so maybe you could help me there, which branches they had back then? What's the difference with todays psychedelic ambient?
