  1. Wasn't the topic, tracks that are RUINED by bad mastering? I think that isn't the case with Suntrip material So, back on topic I guess...

  3. of course that is not a reason, but if all the other modern music is treated that way... and it sounds better on a dancefloor, there is no reason to stay behind, limiting yourself and go back to minor 1996 mastering. What do you think! MWNN, Simon Posfor, Shakta,... They all master their new tracks MODERN, not like in 1996! And that has a reason... You will always have people that are stuck in the past... But we wan't to have a modern interpretation of the past, and that is working damn good I actually wanted to revive the old school music... (not mastering?) Which we did clearly. But we didn't want to copy 1996 all the way, we evolved to a modern interpretation of the old music. Which is exactly where I hoped for... (I never stopped listening to other types of modern psychedelic trance!) About the dynamics, in Adobe Audition, you have the "Spectral Frequency Display" button. And you can see a lot... That's why I say not all dynamics are gone at all, but of course it is less then before... But I told you already as well. For instance Dimension 5, they were super enthousiastic about the new mastering and liked it much more compared to their old stuff... Are all the "old" artists deaf? or are they willing to evolve?
  4. More maximal = less dynamics compared to before, more loud and crystal clear
  5. Goa is over 20 years old in the mean time. Time to have a retrodelic look! For this I dug in my huge cd & vinyl collection and decided to make a mix for every year for the period 1994-2014 to show the "new" generation of goa people how goa-trance evolved, and never really died The first mix is about 1994. Have a look, a listen, a free download in WAV quality and make sure to buy the music if you like it! 1. 2 Puissance 30 - Transpyramid Express (Psychic Lovers Remx) - Step 2 House Records 2. Temple of Dreams - Return to Forever - Phantasm Records 3. Man With No Name - Evolution - Concept in Dance Records 4. Hallucinogen - LSD - Twisted Records 5. Total Eclipse - Transparant Mind - TIP Records 6. Technossomy - Electron Bender (Willie Rmx) - Platipus Records 7. Doof - Double Dragons - Dragonfly Records 8. Shanti Druid - Insectattraction - Celtic Records 9. Aural Traxx - Brainworm - Aural Satisfaction 10. Prana - Indigo (Rmx) - Matsuri Records 11. X-Dream - This - Tunnel Records 12. Dazzle Pulse - Discourse - Trust in Trance Records 13. The Overlords - Gods eye on Goa - Zoo Entertainment 14. Blue Planet Corporation - Overbloody flood - UFK Records For download: https://soundcloud.com/anoebis/anoebis-the-history-of-goatrance-1994 For listening on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8jO1A3MmlQ
  6. True! The big names managed to stand out, not only musically, but also music quality/mastering-wise Because of that they are still playable on serious soundsystems... many others didn't manage from 1995-1999, and still you have the people that praise that kind of mastering into the sky. Unfair imo...
  7. I did already on page 2 here, but here is my copy/paste: "Powerful, more maximal mastering. This doesn't mean there is no dynamics of course but less then before... But it doesn't infect the music in any (negative) way imo :)"
  8. @Happyhhorse: Well, what we do is quiet simple... We use Tim Schuldt That was known before We and 99% of our public are happy, and will keep using him @ Djuna: modern, maximal mastering does not mean there is no dymanics at all. Less compared to before, of course. But not, non. And that was my point, you can't master music like in 1996 anymore if our tracks are played on all big festivals... I saw it many times before. The modern goa tracks that take the crowd into oblivion, while the old school ones have less effect (on HUGE soundsystems) simply because of their mastering. Honestly... 30% of the tracks I would like to play in my sets, I can't mix with modern goa tracks because the difference is too much. Who wants to go back anyway? For the people that know nothing about mastering, you can have spectral views pretty easily in many programs. There
  9. Powerful, more maximal mastering. This doesn't mean there is no dynamics of course but less then before... But it doesn't infect the music in any (negative) way imo And I think Agenton is right that many people indeed don't focus on mastering so hard, it's more something for music geeks and freaks
  10. I met tons & tons of artists of course, and I had loads of great experiences. Around 10-15 bad ones, but I prefer not to write them on the internet... The top 5 nicest artists must be for me: - Graham (Dimension 5) with who I spend 10 days in Japan like a friend always smiling, brittish humor and full of energy - Seb (Shakta) who came to eat in my house several times, and because I cooked, he told me to stay at the table after diner, because he would do the dishes... Shakta doing your dishes!? Yes Extremely nice & passionate guy!! - Kristian (Nebula Meltdown), with who I talked for hours and hours about the most philosophical questions and science. Amazing - Afgin (Afgin), who is the biggest music freak I ever met. Knows every melody, and is always there to help! Drove me specially all around Israel to show me nice places! - Tsuyoshi (Prana), who is very humble, friendly and interested in cultural things! Spended great times with him Which is clearly a difference to me: goa artists are usually nice (although some are fucked up because of too much hallucinogens), while full on artists are generally more "star attitude" kind of guys.
  11. This is true of course... As a promotional thing I use this word. Because people know what to expect. I, myself, will never use it when talking to people about music or dj sets but you are right...
  12. You'll always have people that don't like certain things that are "different", "modern" or whatever you name it. When the guys of DimensioN 5 heard the remaster, they were super happy... Specially because they thought the original mastering was bad, and almost non existent. And when the artist is super happy, and we think it fits perfectly on a modern dancefloor, it is cool for us Tim Schuldt does mix maximal (like some say, he did stop that a little since Blacklight moments), but that is "his" sound autograph. Unfortunately we are 2014, and our tracks need to sound good on festivals like Boom, SUn, etc as well, which means modern mastering is somehow a must. We try to keep the best of both sides. And also, the re-release of Psykadelia is not even sure to be remastered As for, why not taking someone else; very simple: we are happy about him. And I didn't like the Mind Rewind 2 mastering for instance.
  13. Actually I think Belgium will go to the quarter finals for sure. They have a very strong, young team with lots of experience from big competitions (England, Spain and germany mainly). I think Brasil or Spain will become world champions
  14. Exactly as Dolmot said... This track was always written by Asura vs Aes Dana (which was called just Asura, back in the days, but they wanted to be credited now as Asura vs Aes Dana This the exact 99 version
  15. You must be kidding, right? on fb one of the comments was: "too much melodies" Of course, no in your face melodies (well, in Ayahuasca and Mission Aborted they are in your face), but more psychedelic, subtile melodies... but that's what I love so much about E-Mantra. The hypnotic and subtle melodic compositions... I do feel a lot of energy in the tracks John, although there are no climaxes like with so many other goa-groups... This is more trance-dance music, repeating compositions with slight changes allover the place For me, this album is like the return to Arcana I agree Pathfinder was a little weaker...
  16. Serious, that party is not the typical German party... I did great parties in Germany with lots of freaks dancing like crazy... I think it is more or less the same as Belgium. All the alternative people know somehow about goa/psy trance... Which is at least like 20% of the 18 years old (as a teacher it is easy to notice)
  17. The Astral Projection remix from Mugen is a MONSTER track! One of the best tracks released in a long time! Amazing melodies, power and emotions!!!! On the dancefloor this track is amazing, and the climax does the trick every time
  18. The best albums/compilations are always the growers And well, true, if you don't like Crossing Mind, you are stuck (although the E-Mantra rmx doesn't sound Crossing Mind at all imo) And last but not least, if you release 3 cds, of course not all the tracks will appeal everyone... Hopefully many will do in the end
  19. I'm curious for your full review when you have listened to them a few times... I'm wondering which tracks you found sleepy (except the ambient ones, héhé)
