This interview is done by Ambientdroid for www.psybient.net but he wanted it to be published here as well! Thanks for contribution! ENGLISH VERSION Interview with Emil Ilyayev (Zero Cult) Author: RB Date: 8 April 2007 1. Tell me some things from your early musical steps. Tell me about your musical background. I started my musical experience with playing acoustic and electric guitars, writing songs and recording them in my home self made studio. I have no musical education and all I know is self learned. 2. When did you start producing electronic music and what inspired you to start dealing with this genre? The reason I picked electronic music is the great variety of possibilities that it provides and the directness of working with musical materials and also the technical convenience. 3. Before creating Zero Cult - in which musical project have you been involved? I haven't participated in any particular project but for several years I have been writing club trance tracks for my fellow DJ friends that are being used in their sets. 4. Is Zero Cult means something special? How this name was born? No associations, I've been searching for the project name and found it simple and interesting. 5. How did you met Nick Miamis - the boss of Cosmicleaf Records - and how did you get involved with his label? I sent Nick my demo recordings, he liked it and further on we began collaborating. 6. Before day of releasing "Art Of Harmony" - do you thinked that this CD will had so great feedback around the world? Every musician expects his work to be appreciated but the reactions to this album pleasantly surprised me. 7. Was there a unifying concept or vision behind your album? It's not a conceptual album. It simply reflects a period of my life. Almost all the tracks were written in 2005. 8. How would you describe your music? I don't know... maybe as "PsyPop in slow motion", hehehe. 9. What is your method of music creation? I don't have any special method of music creation, just working and working. 10. What equipment do you normally use? I have a small Behringer studio and almost all my equipment made by them, monitors, mixer, MIDI keybord and others. 11. What artists would you say have influenced you? I'm an oldschool guy, so my favourite artists are J. M. Jarre, Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream and the other artists from 70th and 80th. 12. What is your favourite album? My best electronic album ever is "Oxygen" of J. M. Jarre. 13. Where does your inspiration comes from? From my window there is a magnificent view to the sea and night sky. I think that's enough inspiration for any artist. 14. Which Zero Cult track do you like especially and why? Which of your tracks do you have a special feeling for? I do not have any special preferences between my tracks though my first ones have a special meaning to me because of the push they gave me in my work. 15. How do you like working in collaboration with other artists? Who would you most like to work with? My only experience in collaborating with other artists is recently recorded track with other Israeli artist called "Nun Project". It will be released in forthcoming compilation. I'm free to any person's will to collaborate with me. 16. Do you listen albums from the other artists from this scene, like Aes Dana, Entheogenic, Solar Fields? Of course. For example CBL's new album is amazing in my opinion. I like their music very much. 17. Do you like goa/psytrance music? If so - tell me your favourites artists. Progressive style is close to me more than psytrance. I love tunes of Vibrasphere, Lish, Liquid Soul and others. 18. Where and when was your best and worst party? I never played on the big parties - only on small clubs and there were two great events in Greece with Side Liner. 19. What is the best Cosmicleaf album without "Art Of Harmony" in your opinion? I like all Cosmicleaf albums, every album is interesting and must get attention. 20. With the new album on the horizon - what has changed for Zero Cult since "Art Of Harmony"? On which stage is now production of your second album? My new album called "Ikebana" will be released in October and has more dramatic sound. 21. Do you want to say something especially to your fans? I am fulfilling my dream and it's possible because of your support. I would like to thank everyone who listened to my album. All feedbacks are welcomed of course. I hope that my music did something...

MFG is better then Astral Projection for me.. This for 2 reasons: -their evolution, they start with classic crazy goa trance (The Propechy), evoluate to more psychedelic emotional goa trance (New Kind of World) and then to very evil somehow dark massive night stuff (Project Genesis) and finally a pretty good "new" cd for that period (The Message)... They showed they manage to create many styles, and they are good in all of them! -their crazyness, in their tracks is SO much going on all the time, pure psychedelic madness, while Astral has more perfect layers, and thus less, MFG plays alot with the melodies, which I love

I had the time to make some pictures now as well: The normal trance and acid ones (mostly not on discogs) and some vinyls (not on discogs)
-
well, thanks for bringing this upon my attention, but this is total ripoff! All our Suntrip cds are there, we never gave permission to get streamed... And we for sure never gave permission to give mp3 for download! I mean, you can buy the filteria album as mp3 for 80 cent? Who the hell are those fuckers?
-
legal downloads from Russia? lol, don't even think about it... groups as Asia 2001 never ever gave a license to download their music... and I know this from the source...
-
I will kick his ass again, but you are on the line up 100% confirmed, so he will get in touch with you shortly
-
in my case it's simply alphabetical... albums alphabetical, and compilations as well... This is simply the easiest way for me, no need to have the record labels together, in many there is no continuity (musicalwise) anyway, and too many labels with 1-2 releases... And when they are alphabetical the styles are closer to eachother... For instance my Asia 2001 cds are all next to eachother altough released on 2 different labels, same for Etnica etc...

for me one of the best albums of 2006, and probably one of the best chill albums ever... I like the melodic, sensitive soundscapes alot, and specially when he combines it with the piano like melodies! on top of that some whales singing and some IDM elements and you have something new, fresh and perfect! 9/10 for me! Favourites: 2-6(!!)-8-9-10

well... Remember our talking a few months ago? I still have 1 brand new copy waiting here on you (and the booking as well, héhé)
-
and I forgot hypnorhytm of Transwave... Damn
-
For me, at this moment, my most wanted albums are: Blue Planet Corporation - Blue Planet Hunab Ku - Magik Universe Trance Experience 1 (Discobole) Ptzatzot 1 Accidental Occidentalism and when I have those, I must start a new hobby, because then my collection is reaching completion, and its rather a sad then a fun moment as I want more music... (well, I can start collecting ambient then, haha) Etnica - Juggling is indeed very much sought, and 80€ seems like a fair price indeed... Tatsu, my housemate sells a sealed copy of Boyd in the void if you are interested..
-
lol, yes, we met on an old school goa party
-
well, that's not always the truth... it WAS like that as well for me all the time, but now mine is starting to learn the dj basics as well, and starts to become pretty damn obsessed as well... and last week something véry scary happened... I wanted some ambient after a whole day of uptempo stuff and she said I was a pussy and she put up Asia 2001 - Live..

After this weekend I found out that quiet alot of my friends that listen to goa trance have a boy/girlfriend that don't like it AT ALL, In my case, I can't even imagine if someone could be together with me if she doesn't like goa trance! So well... Lets have a look if your boy/girlfriend shares the same goa trance taste or not? In my case I must be pretty lucky, she loves melodic goa trance very much, and she loves the emotional side the most, etnica, california sunshine, Astral, the morning masters, and the second thing she likes alot is spugedelic/suomi... her favourite there is Luomuhappo Her ambient favourite is Zero Cult and Electrypnose... What she doesn't like is dark trance and acidic old school goa trance... But ah well, then I listen that when i'm alone now you

well, that's what I said above here! This is a total unique thing that will happen... no more re-releases! Just this one, because there is a link between Ra and D5... And well, as said, this is the perfect warming up! This was the only cd I wanted to re-release anyway...! We have so much good music now for the future that we have albums and compilations planned for the next 1.5 years, only NEW music of course! so don't worry... no sell out
-
Well, thanks alot for all the reactions here... I want to make 1 thing clear first... This is the one and only way, the artists will get money for their music... even after 10 years! (specially meant to the guy that thinks it should stay untouched), they have no message on a 350€ profit of some guy, they do have a message of 10€ cds sold to all trance lovers allover the world! Like this they will get a decent reward for their work back then! About the artwork, it will be close to the original, and chosen by Kerry Palmer himself, soon we can show you how it will look Pleiadians - IFO then... no way we will or can re-release it, for various reasons: - this may be sought, but it is not as insanely rare as D5 which is at least as good imo - Max asks too much money for it - we don't want to concentrate on re-releases, simply because we have enough very good music for the future! This D5 re-release was simply because Ra's album needed a little more work... So we thought this would be the perfect teaser...
-
The Only Process So Nice you name it Twice Klein Aber Doctor I like them in this order, and almost all the tracks released after these 3 great ones were much less good imo...
-
hey I almost only post in the music sections, i'm not enough online to react alot in off topic, because if I post in a thread, and I read the replies the next time I come online, I always discover there are 4 new pages... Anyway, it's just an emphasis, when there are some good releases, it will revive, don't worry, it goes in waves
-
Check the full Bodh Gaya - Ayahuasca cd, all the tracks have Indian singing in it and lots of tribal drums
-
Some nice ones Etnica - Juggling Alchemist (Double) Technossomy - Synthetic Flesh Darshan - Awekening (Double) Kox Box - Dragon Tales (original version)
-
well yes, Kalle said everything is printed... and the cds are in his cellar but he never found decent distribution... And now he's busy with other stuff... maybe in the future? or maybe not anymore at all... Ethereal will start making music again together with Jim Granlund (Dreamweaver), they want to make a double album now, 1 trance cd and 1 ambient... And besides they will make a project with Merr0w Yspsilon 5, I haven't heard much since his release on Apsara... pretty weird actually, I should try to hunt him down again
-
honest and trustworthy guy! Recommended! A++
-
well, he isn't lying, I bought some cds from him on discogs for redicolous low prices...
-
As you said supply and demand... Simple as that Discogs price = highest ebay price + 30% But, the more people that put their cds for sale on discogs, the lower the prices are because of competetivity So the problem will be solved soon... altough some cds will be very expensive forever...
