Psytrance and the culture around it is like any other genre; dependent on the social, political and environmental issues happening in the lives of people who attend these gatherings. Nowadays I feel a certain level of alienation to society and its course of action and it definitely shows when I attend a party; I'm not so eager to meet new people (although not against it either) and I think a lot of people are the same; we don't connect or find a huge interest towards each other. It has to do with decreased attention span. In general I feel people have become too obsessed in constantly see or hear something "fresh" that it conflicts with the ability to just be in the moment without expectations. Sometimes it's different, sure. Give me a forest party with a free entrance and all the artists playing for free and the odds are you might find the spirit of freedom, too.

I went to see a local 2nd hand shop for used cds and little did I know there was more psytrance than ever before hehe. A lot more I just left there, too dark for me.

The news is we had to replace the Vincent track (no good rip was found) and replace it with 'Encens - Howl', not a bad track that one either. Now the compilation is pretty much finished with mastering and sent to the pressing plant.

One of the better forest artists I've found on ektoplazm compilations. I wish only that this had been a full length, but still a nice release.

Well the Finnish DJ Lupu who specializes in proto-Goa sound is definitely one. You ought to check out his mixes on youtube if interested in the old stuff? Paul Eye on this forum is great with chill-out sets, but his knowledge of that music is very deep, too. But honestly, I value artists much higher than DJs. Takes a whole different level of dedication, passion and yearn to become an artist with a signature sound.

I believe they're greek. (??) And even know the name of one guy but let's keep that a secret as the producers would like I suppose. Really would like to see an album from them, too. They made really unique dark goa with lots of direction changes within tracks, very storytelling atmosphere one can't but to admire.

This compilation has received a lot of attention, so I thought I'd chip in and tell a few thoughts that spurred in my mind listening to this a couple times. It's a fair thing to say that the overall quality is pleasant; there's no really mediocre tracks on any cd. The bad side is, like noted by an earlier reviewer, the music is somewhat stagnated to sound very alike (with a couple exceptions, sure) and listening to this thing throughout on one go feels like an attempt I'm unable to accomplish. I've noticed every little niche of a genre tends to progress into something quite homogenic, and goa trance is no different in that matter. As a producer myself, I hate to trashtalk any particular track. It's very much a fact not everything is meant to suit my taste. The only exception to that rule is, and I feel compelled to say this, a small statement about the Merr0w track: it's mixing is a bit brutal. The mid-level sounds, especially in the later half of the track, are blurry and hard to identify. I think overall the mids are a bit too high as well. This track sounds very different from a production angle to anything else here. There's many good moments sprinkled on these three cds. Here's what caught my attention: - Psy-H Project's "Precession Of The Universe" has a great melody near the end of the track. Gives my a feeling of Slavic melancholy in its most delicate and beautiful form. - Everything by Celestial Intelligence is great here. It's very small details, even impossible to mention in written language, they do different that makes them stand out for me. They're really at the top of the game at the moment. - Centavra Project's "Capsula" has something special to it. Very coherent track with well placed elements, like they used to do in the 90s! - Artifact303's "Family Of Light" is a great ender like many seemed to think. I love the spoken sample!

Hah! It's not my favourite style, but I do listen to it with one of my friends. Here's a couple that I like: +1 on that Commander Tom suggestion.
