Fantastic tracks ruined by mastering/mixing.
Oopie replied to Penzoline's topic in General Psytrance
1) That's very well said and I for one would like to think that when you run a goa trance label, you want to release the best possible art. I do happen to think goa trance as a musical form differs quite a bit from let's say, full-on. It has harmonic texture and is (at best) layered, colorful music like classical, both breathing and sounding the best when having a wide dynamic range. Ultimately one shouldn't try to master all the psytrance music the same way...:! 2) I do agree. Wonderful compositions but a bit flat sounding end result. I remember playing a track from the album after I just played one from Portamento's... the change of mood couldn't have been more obvious. -

I think we ought to remind ourselves the best artists of the 90s have quite a decent mastering, something you can still play at festivals (like someone here pointed out - Hallucinogen for example). Having good dynamics is the key thing in my books. Loudness & overcompression are ridiculous "pop tricks" in mastering that quite often turn the music texture into plastic sounding result. I do think thou, that as of recent all the major goa labels have been quite successful with their final products - the situation is better than 5 years ago. -
Awesome EP, finally an artist that I can safely say to sound like Pleiadians in their hey-days.

I have to disagree (only on the grading). It's a somewhat chaotic track by it's nature, but by all means there's no randomness in the notes, it's very carefully made. One of the best fast tracks Suntrip has ever released - I can see this one taking the whole dancefloor at the right moment.

Share you experiences with meeting psy/goa artists in real life

Hux Flux - Weird, but honest guy having this dark scandinavian humour. I don't wanna say what he answered when I asked him about the reasons after all these years to do psytrance... Talpa - We had a good chat about music and he told me how ageing makes him want to do chillier stuff like prog and downtempo. Aavepyörä - Honest, friendly and creative personality easy to connect with. -

Now when I gave it a go have to admit the new EU is horrible. It's very loud, compact and plastic - it's a shame as some of the tracks are really good ones. A prime example of "festival mastering for the large crowds" that holds zero value for home listening. -
You're welcome mate, hope you enjoy it!

It must've been a whole genre-turning point when this came out... but nowadays I find that the tracks on Cryptic Crunch are a bit so-so. I feel something's missing and honestly this kind of sound have been taken on a whole different level the recent years so this doesn't have the impact it used to have.

You're both very welcome, enjoy.

I need to echo that Schuldt's mastering of Transdimensional was indeed loud and 'jammed' as Earwall put it. It's a tricky business when you're remastering old classics, but for example Colin OOOD has been doing great work for Mind Rewind series. -

I don't want to bad mouth but... BotFB has had quite impressively bad mastering continously all these years and I can't but to wonder why. The recent example, a track that I find excellent compositionally is atrociously loud and can't be played in good PA: After Death -
Worth it for Phantasmagoria. Tiara isn't all that bad either. Abstraktd is also my least favourite here... Nevertheless, if you're a goa freak then there's no question you want this.

Do you give your music the attention it deserves?
Oopie replied to trancedigital's topic in General Psytrance
Very well thought idea for a topic, something I've thought about myself recently as well. It's hard to pin-point the exact problem that I'm facing with music on a personal level. I don't enjoy anything as much as I used to and I reckon it has much to do with this ever speeding information overload. How the society runs its course is forever connected to way we experience music and even to large extent, the physical manifestation i.e. what kind of music is written. The way I see it we have too many options and basically, on a collective level, don't give appreciation for any artist/music more than a few moments before rushing to the next thing. This is something that means we're attached to the music on a very superficial level and one could say we're almost on the level of just consuming it. I don't say that's right or wrong thing, it's just my observation. In the end, the pace of the whole western culture is rapid and there's hardly moments of pure relaxation and collective mentality. Concerts and festivals perhaps. What I'd like to see is more intimate, close, collective musical experiences in cyber reality. Maybe that's the next big thing... -
Very well, will send tomorrow.

You're welcome.

Not bad at all... progresses nicely towards the end. Cybernetika has the talent for making long, story-telling tracks. I haven't heard his music in a long time and I can only wonder why. I give this 7,5/10. (I apologize for the lousy mp3 quality...)

Those two are. If you are able to pick up couple more records, I might just and just be able to walk all the way down to the post office and send em for you.
-
Haven't heard his solo works, but Aural Float & Subsonic Park are A-class downtempo that I recommend wholeheartedly.

Genetic - Transmission Juno Reactor - High Energy Protons (Voodoo People Remix) Third Eye - Morphic Resonance

Selling all my CDs, lost left: Celtic Records, Pleiadians, etc
Oopie replied to Taika-Kim's topic in For Sale/ Trade
I know the guy and can say with confidence he's selling the collection. Might be he has to update the list...? -
Richie's gone. You can have those two... plus at least one more item of your wish and we a have deal. Aight mate, I'll bring it over one of these days. Sure.
-
Flux Trax is reserved. Maybe you can think something else to go with Chicane and Oliver Ho? My cousin took those MAs. You'll have the rest! Guys, please send me your addresses via PM and I'll start packing.

Sorry I forgot to mention one thing that's actually important. I won't send just one cd to anyone, as it's in all honesty quite a ridiculous deal for me to pay 4 euros just to send one item, now isn't it? You should pick Dan Curtin, Brother's Yard (!) and others to go with Richie Hawtin, just my suggestion. Flux Trax is a great compilation and you can have it... but read above post. I ship eeeeverywhere. That's the spirit! Good choices. 3 items is something I can almost start packing already. Still available. Maybe you find something to go with that?
