What music are you listening to right now?
Oopie replied to Sputum Rotgut's topic in General Psytrance
Lunar Asylum - Lost In Space proper ol' skool! oh my... -
Heh, Colour of Time as whole is actually not much better than Cosmosis' here. It's perhaps not the best of examples... yet 'I Saw Your Saw' is gripping, great goanish full-on. That's the track that made me mention him. It's my idea of energetic and good use of melodies yyys sir. Tbh, not even sure if there's a 'Dragon Tales' in full-on, where every single track is close to perfection. My picks for good full-on are something such as: hux flux - time slices rmx, post 100, abracababra squaremeat - mankeli, golden accordion scatterbrain - infernal angels troll scientists - zemel dance, vill du ha luft ... Glad to see you like Intriga... and your description is wonderful! I've always thought him as the follow-up to the Classical Mushroom era I.M. Stupify and Abortion of the Innerchild seem to be favourites of both of us. As he's a friend, got a few promo tracks that are absolute belters! They'll probably get released on Ektoplazm later this year. Keep your I(ar)s open.

Drawing comparison to Cosmosis' older material is a bit unfair indeed, naturally the times have changed and so has the music. Still, it would be fooling myself not to remember Billy's potential (eg. Synergy) and not comparing it to the outcome of the present. U'know, the best part of this album is probably 6:30-7:00 on the last track 'the eternal now', pitched +5. That's the Cosmosis recipe yours truly enjoys, deeply twisted and challenging melody - it's the only truly enjoyable part on the album, could Billy make more soundscapes in this direction? You bet. So the thing is, Cosmosis' and Oopie's vision of good psytrance split in 2001 (Intergalactic being the last stand-out in 2000) and that's I guess all there's to it. Would also have to disagree this being the 'Dragon Tales' of 2009; it's sounds unfinished in ideas and just 'poppy', too easy on experienced listener. There's far superior music in the melodic full-on dpt. Cosmosis does nowadays. Take Tryambaka's The Colour Of Time for example. I'd also bet my stinky socks the forthcoming Intriga album on Ektoplazm will blow this out of the competition... But that's just me and my stinky socks. =)

Found this dull and uninspired. Yes it takes slightly more old-schoolish route will give you that, the analogue touch is there. Yet it lacks charm and soul, just to put it short. The magical twists and good sense for harmonic/uplifting melodies you got from the man in the 90s is missing - it's obvious one compares this to the best Cosmosis tracks and this album doesn't even come close, unfortunately. *goes wonder if Billy ever writes a good track again...*

some would argue the field is just a ableton geek caught on loop but... the repetitiveness gets on you after a while trust me. Would draw comparison to Gas' music; both are seemingly repetitive yet small details change constantly. Both make good background music.

how on earth could one forget... VA / PSY-HARMONICS VOL.3 - HACKING THE REALITY MYTH Just took it out of shelf and not a single bad track on it, quite the opposite really. When it comes to aussie goa trance there's no comparison.

This review doesn't end up really saying much new... it's a solid album that could've been even greater if all the tracks had such a strong use of melodies as infernal angels. The irresistable bassline on hex is also a brilliant moment. All in all this album doesn't get the highest grade, but is still a fine example of better full-on.

Heh, Finnish is pronounced exactly as it's written... -
Damn. I heard some tracks at age 9-10, but didn't "get it" back then. A few years later a question was asked "wanna hear sum' suomisaundi?", got a cdr filled with tracks by texas faggott, ILO and the likes... some weeks later Hallucinogen and Astral Projection - no turning back.

Hitler really hates the new Infected Mushroom album
Oopie replied to Ormion's topic in General Psytrance
Seems you like to stick to your right/wrong delusion. The definition of revolutionary you gave, that we can agree on; and I.M. fills the criteria by a long shot, I'm merely one of the many with this opinion. How one perceives sound is virtually impossible to perfectly transform into words - first of all they're two different things, music and words. Secondly, yours truly is one of those people who lack the ability, or the vocabulary, to write in english about the sensation CM gives. Elysium gave a list of artists he thinks are the ones I.M. copied - I could always tell apart GNOTR track and I.M. track, or any other artist's work you compare to I.M's CM. But it's getting so personal now... the answer you're ultimately looking for is - music is always personally perceived, and the perception varies from an individual to another. What there's left to do is realize this, get little humility on your character and 'listen and let listen'. Since you asked, yes I know goa by heart, take some odd few releases here and there aside. -

You seem to fail to grasp the idea this is not a right/wrong discussion in the first place. It's up to individual's own mind to give or not to give an album 'revolutionary/pioneer' status; a large number of people find CM to be a stand-out release and certainly amongst the classics, no need to be bitter about it just because your perception differs. -

To measure intelligence - would be hard if not impossible, not only because we simply lack devices to give exact results (let's say you make a test and answer certain questions - the only thing this test factually tells is whether you can answer the questions. All further conclusions are assumptions of some sort.) and secondly, because intelligence is such an open field: there's social, mathematical etc. types. Mathematic skills might be the easiest to measure, yet something such as a 'good person', can you give more than an opinion about it? That smiley there might be a hint of you not being all serious, hopefully so. Making such harsh a claim as all BS listeners (sorry for the pun ) being stupid - is plain and simple, a bit rude. Cherish your taste by all means, but being a tad sensitive for people with different preferences to music is not really too much to ask, no? -

Curious to read such a bold statement as I.M. copying former pioneer artists. Taste and music, they're often hard to discuss as it's clear all of us, we perceive sounds in a unique way. Guess if you want to be in some way factual about it; one could provide a list of technical gear all the mentioned artists have used. Based on own hearing, would put my money on I.M. having quite a different setup. You know there's a good way of telling an original artist: You hear a random track by them/him and you can say - aha! It's x. Etnica (early), Hallucinogen, I.M. - they all have very identifiable sound you can instantly spot and not confuse with other artists. -
Cosmic Delusion - Explorin Yourself nice finnish full-on...

how you like it? Personally I find his Balance 009 to be vastly overrated (not worth the excellent Discogs rating). that reminds me, (you too) should check out balance 014 by Joris Voorn, lots of good words have been said about it. -
Yes, it's hard to explain... It must be the sense of speed and the beatiful scenery that make it happen. Watching a beautiful sky while listening to something such as AP's Mahadeva, feels like God itself visits my soul...
