jeanette christensen (of e-rotic) version of "charlene" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvNJ9muaW4k

I decided to check this out after a few members on this forum gave it a good word and said it's something new and special. This album/compilation definitely has its moments. On a few occasions the sheer level of ideas represented parallely reminds me of hux flux's heydays. Then again there's something typically idiotic about many tracks - pumping at 160 bpm and more makes me question the danceability of the tracks. Who can dance to this for more than 30 mins, meth heads excluded? I strongly think the top-end of bpm in psytrance would be in the 154-156 range. A fast rolling bassline is not enough for a great psychedelic track. I wish more darkpsy producers would understand this. This supposedly cream de la cream darkpsy compilation also suffers greatly of uninspired bassline driven moments and one/two layers of effects that often fail to give any harmonic/sensible rhythm to the track. There's not enough variation in the effects - now darkpsy hardly ever goes to melodic realms so at least I would hope the sound structure to have light effects to create some contrast (I think contrast is the keyword to a successful inspired psytrance track). Overall I feel exhausted (largely due to fast bpm) to listen this compilation thruout. I feel the wrong guys are in the spotlight of darkpsy - this isn't the best the genre has to offer. my verdict: 6/10 my recommendations for darkpsy: tutankhamon 9000 / lost in luxor (2008) m.m.c. / alice in space (2007) m.m.c. / worlds i.d. (2009) arsenic / arithmetix (2009)

`Hate` would be too strong a word, but I`m with you - I dislike most darkpsy with passion. I listen to none of the examples I gave you myself, but thought it might fit you as you mentioned gabber. My personal favourite would be Tutankhamon 9000`s Lost In Luxor. It combines dark and melodic elements with a little suomisaundi touch, yet there`s intelligence to be found in the composition side. oxezy is excellent. twisted and funny in a way with some darkness to it http://www.myspace.com/darkoxezy check out the artist M.M.C. and the albums Alice In Space and World`s ID. Google the keywords and you`ll find the goods. another major artist is artifakt. his albums artifakts 2 and the magus are excellent. you can read a few reviews on this site too if you want to see impressions. melodic full-on would be much harder genre me to introduce you. here`s couple nice examples thou/ (old school as it should be )

sounds like you might enjoy darkpsy. darkpsy`s typical elements are rolling bassline, lots of fx, usually quite non-melodic and runs in 150-180bpm territory. some names/ penta derango osom kindzadza psykovsky

epic fail. (no offense to artha's music thou)

This is worth my deepest recommendation. Can't stress enough how much I enjoyed listening to Bit-Head's music.

I'm really starting to feel goa is alive again <3 <3 Artifact303 was like a flashback to old pleiadians sound. New Born was just what I was expecting to hear after the magnificent "observer ep". Amanians track was kind of goa I've never heard before, really cool. I guess it's not necessary to say I enjoyed all the samples lol! All in all this seems like a must buy.

Celluloid Dmage doesn't have an album, but you can check quite many of their tracks on mikseri.net

Try Rhythm & Sound. That's the stuff. Albums "See Mi Yah" and "w/ The Artists" are the ones you should check out.

New school gems that never got the recognition they deserve

Cosmic Delusion - Pixel Freaks http://www.mikseri.net/player/player.php?n...arameter=323153 They pressed a few hundred cds but have no distribution anywhere. Too bad... -
One of the best free releases in a while. Excellent mix of light and dark. There's no excuse, go get it.

Shell Shock's "Shell Shock" is even better if you ask me. You can find it on youtube aswell.

It's ok. Maroko's review on discogs sums it up pretty good. I like Galaxy Journey and Filteria rmx a lot actually. The rest fails to do much of an impression. You might perceive the album differently naturally, but from my point of view I won't recommend it for just 2 tracks.

Yggdrasounds II (Yggdrasil Records)

Sounds good. Can't wait to meet you guys on friday.... -
I agree to certain degree. ^_o I also happen to think the title track (#2) is the standout. And listening to this album through-out makes me a little exhausted. Separately the tracks do work thou. Antic I think you have a pretty similar taste to mine (Being a Cosmosis whore'n'all!). Would there be any recommended dark psy albums from your side, with a little intelligent/melodic edge?
-
Seems you're a melodic sucka. That's cool. A good way to find out is to read reviews on this site. They span from early 90s to this today. But to make a bit easier for you, here's a small list: modern: Ra - 9th Khetzal - Corolle Agneton - Horizon In Your Head old (=better ^^): Hallucinogen - Twisted Hallucinogen - The Lone Deranger Astral Projection - Dancing Galaxy Astral Projection - Trust In Trance Shakta - Silicon Trip MFG - New Kind Of World Etnica - Alien Protein Pleiadians - IFO That will get you started.

To be honest I heard the album over a year before it's release. I had unmastered mp3 copies of it. The music's intelligent, little suomish, at times melodic, but still dark psy. That's how I perceive it. You can call good music dark psy too u'know...
