The "Not as much love for IFO as everyone else" thread
Oopie replied to Veracohr's topic in General Psytrance
Might be the only one, or just was the one saying it out loud. -
The track had potential in the middle to venture into totally unique goa track but kind of lost it in the end. Nevertheless, thanks for "tubing".

Made awesome trade with him. Recommended!

Uni's "Red Resonant Moon" copies The Muses Rapt "Spiritual Healing" if my memory stands correct. Son Kite's "Focus" @ 5:03-5:30 is ripped straight from some track on "Other Side" by Infected Mushroom. I lost the cd so I can't check.

The "Not as much love for IFO as everyone else" thread
Oopie replied to Veracohr's topic in General Psytrance
It was more of a general remark to make people understand there's no need to battle whether IFO is good or not. Only thing directed at you was "These sort of threads are the most idiotic of em all. It's obvious a thread like this leads to two sides, the ones who like and the ones who don't like, having friction." See? This thread hasn't made anyone change their taste in the direction of yours. If that's not what you're after then what's the purpose for such topic to begin with? It seems to be ~IFO's not as good as generally considered~. "there's nothing about it that really stands out" "in contrast, other artists have songs that really stand out to me. There's nothing by Pleiadians I've heard that I would remember a melody or anything from." Now there's nothing wrong with such opinions per se. But in the end, throwing such bold negative oriented statements on an album hailed as a classic and loved by many people inevitably leads to people fighting over nutn. It's clear this topic would cause friction and it did. Hence idiotic. -
let us know if they were any good...

The "Not as much love for IFO as everyone else" thread

Saying "this is bad", "overrated" etc. is pretty pointless. Especially when it comes to old releases which don't affect the current scene in any relevant way. Only circumstances where such style of writing or behaviour is any good is when you strive to change something. Will people who like IFO suddenly stop liking it after you express your negative opinion about it? No? What is the point of bashing something that is there and will stay there? IFO is what it is, won't be any different and won't be erased off the existance no matter how much you say it sucks. These sort of threads are the most idiotic of em all. It's obvious a thread like this leads to two sides, the ones who like and the ones who don't like, having friction. -
+1 Besides. This cd is extremely hard to find, and furthermore, not the label or the artist would get the cash at this point.

"this is so 92" is just a humorous punch, not meant to take literally. of all the trax.
-
"vintage" might be an expression I'd like to use in positive context. Prolly all the trax were major when they were released - the true test is if the ideas are so good they still stand as fresh and listenable. And hey to my ears, about 50% of them don't in this mix. It's obvious this isn't old school goa mix. I don't think it's really acid/techno mix either. Trance is the most fitting word I can come up with. But fuuu...nk the genres. all best, Boobies Oopie

I remember listening to this once. As I'm not a DJ myself I can't go into detail about the technical side, but the mixing was mostly pretty well made me thinks. The tracklist was so and so. Some choons were excellent and had that innocent, deep analog vibe. Fav'e tracks were, surpie surpie, by Infinity Project. Then some made me go "this is so 92..." and I don't mean it the good way. Seriously dated to the point I pushed forward button. Then again I can't index the good/bad tracks so I'm not sure if my critics is any good here. Old school can't compete with the new stuff when it comes to dynamics. It's only competent in the song structure area, melodies. So there's my obvious hint. Still waiting for the hard techno mix...
-
It's not because there wouldn't be good full-on with great melodies. It's because there's such an amount of stuff released these days it's really hard to find the good tracks! If 1 out of 20 tracks is good it's really time consuming job to find out the goodies. Especially if you don't download. Also tell me, have any of the above mentioned artists released a whole album where every track is class? Perhaps not? Many old schoolers have! So in conclusion, for one major track I strongly hesitate to buy an album...

that remix is... there are no words. big pile of poo would come close I guess.

If you don't get it - you forget people hear music differently. Even you hear music differently under influence than on normal circumstances. IFO's not on my top-10 list either. I enjoy Alcyone and Electra on it quite a bit, but reckon they've done better. -
