  1. Signs you're spending too much time with electronics: seeing the word 'superstition' and thinking it says 'superposition'.
  2. I don't think I'd even heard of Deviant Electronics before I saw the post in the Label Announcements section, but I trust Zion 604 so much I checked it out and bought the album, and it's fucking awesome!
  3. I agree! I like that it's a bit of a new direction yet still retains the E-Mantra sound. Pretty awesome album!
  4. I just got Toi Doi's Technologic, and was surprised to see that it was mastered by Lior Perlmutter. I don't know if he's done any other mastering, though.
  5. This. Actually, most of it wouldn't even be that bad if it weren't such a prevalent formula. But once you hear so much following the same formula, you start to dislike even the stuff that isn't bad. That's why I voted "Very good". Because there is some excellent goa in the past 10 years, but it isn't as diverse as the 90's, so the scene gets knocked a point for that. +1 PortaMento is, in my opinion, the most original and awesome new goa artist that is firmly 'goa', and not some other sub-genre of psy.
  6. I don't think it's a real live drum sample, I think it's a synthesized snare in that song, but it has a gated reverb on it. That's probably what you're wondering about. It's a very cliched 80's rock snare sound.
  7. Probably a pulse wave, not a pure square wave (50% duty cycle), with moderate to high resonance, not really high. One oscillator. It's nothing really complicated, but depends on the right sounding oscillator and filter, and a sweet spot of resonance, filter cutoff and envelope settings.
  8. Spent the last 7 hours or so trying to learn Arduino and get a display working, to no avail. Also I discovered that my email stopped working today. I got on a chat with my web host's tech support to ask what the problem was and the guy tried to tell me my domain isn't even hosted with them. I'm pretty damned sure it is.
  9. I just placed two orders for two albums each from two different sources (so 4 total). One order was almost 50% more than the other.
  10. Lots of the classics, which may not even be that rare. Like Alien Protein, Rock Bitch Mafia, most of the TIP color comps, etc.
  11. I haven't heard it either. I wish I'd jumped on it at the time, but I'm not losing sleep over missing a CD. I have the second one.
  12. Sounds like someone equating bad, cookie-cutter fullon with the entire genre. Or dark psy, which can often be minimal in the melody department because it focuses on other stuff. Either way it's not accurate to equate the whole umbrella genre of psytrance with one sub-genre. But it might be accurate to say that fullon is the "face" of psy, from the perspective of non-fans, because it's the most widespread and prominent type. That doesn't mean I'm necessarily happy about the fact. Considering fullon grew out of goa/psy from the 90's, it's not like fullon producers are unaware of goa. They just choose to do otherwise. But there are of course those who do try to blend goa and fullon, to varying degrees of success.
  13. You'll probably have to shut out light, like with a sleep mask or hanging dark curtains over your windows. You have the benefit of artificial light when you're awake, so you need artificial dark when you sleep. I think yes, you can do it all at once, it just sucks for a while as you get used to it. Like jet lag when you've gone a far distance. When I went to London (8 hours ahead of here) for a week, I spent half the week waking up in the middle of the night and getting super tired in the middle of the day, and only at the end of the week was I used to it. Just in time to fuck up my schedule again as I went home!
  14. She's in the same city I am, and somehow I'm on her mailing list, but I don't think I've never heard her music. She doesn't have anything particularly psy-related does she?
  15. ^ To many of us in the world of electronic music, especially in the era of internet forums where we can discuss such things to great extent with people from all over the world, it doesn't seem that unusual to group things into micro-genres. But if you think about it in a larger context, 'neogoa' is just the current style of the continuum that is 'goa', which started in the 90's. Sure, we perceive differences in the style of goa between the 90's and today, but as long as we consider them 'goa' in some respect, there's no real point in considering "old school goa" and "new school goa" to be different styles. Because they're just different points on the same trajectory. Compare it to the history of rock & roll. There are clear differences in style between Elvis in the 50's, Led Zeppelin in the 70's, and Cake in the 90's, but we still consider them all to be rock, just at different points in the history of rock. And, realistically, if you step outside the microverse of psytrance and look at it from the perspective of the millions if not billions of people who don't listen to goa/psy, goa today really is pretty damned close to 90's goa.
  16. Weird. I don't use Facebook anymore so I don't really know what goes on there, but it seems odd that they would put much attention on a page that reached so few people.
  17. Pretty awesome. There's a couple pads that don't quite fit, like they're a chord patch which doesn't quite fit the key. And there's a break at about 4:30 that is pointless and disruptive. Otherwise pretty good!
  18. I was a bit confused by that story. What's the boiled-down version? The page disappeared and Facebook didn't say why?
  19. It says right in the specs: http://us.focusrite.com/firewire-audio-interfaces/liquid-saffire-56/specifications Those are ADAT optical ports (also called ADAT Lightpipe), or they can be reconfigured for optical S/DPIF format. Google those things to figure out how to use them.
  20. I played Civ 2 and Civ 4 a lot. I wonder about Civ 5, if I would be into it, but every time I start up a new game of Civ 4 lately, I get bored with it before I even finish the game.
  21. That player is able to play FLAC directly, without expanding it and saving as WAV? I wish iTunes/iPod could do that.
