I'm thinking about getting the Akai APC40, which is a controller for Ableton Live. I'm not sure if it's a good idea though, because I'm mostly hoping it will spur me to get into live playing. I've wanted to play live for a while now, which is the whole reason I got Ableton Live, I just never made it happen. Part of that is because I write so slowly, but also because I'm lazy. I've started thinking recently about writing with live performance in mind more than finished productions. Maybe if I got a good Live controller I would get serious about developing a live performance process. Do you think it's a bad idea to buy something with the hope it will encourage me to get serious about live playing? If I buy it and end up not doing much it would be a sad waste of money.

Damn Rotwang, you shouldn't have explained it yet!

Yes, I have this Gramophone: Actually, I have a cheap ($100) belt-drive Neumark. It has minor speed fluctuations that bug me on long synth pads where I can really hear it.

^ Holy crap, were a lot of those at big festivals, or do you just go to tons of shows? Also, are those countries where you saw them, or were you just saying where they are from?
-
I just started watching that - it's pretty good!

I'd like to eventually, but I can't justify the money. I like the look of the Doepfer stuff.

best album so far, has anything come close to artha?

Hmm....at first listen, it doesn't work for me. It doesn't flow nicely, it's too disjointed. -
I don't remember specifics, just that the verdict was: fake.

Call it psychedelic trance, they'll get that.

^ I've seen that before, including discussion of its fakery.

I haven't heard the Mindsphere or Crossing Mind albums mentioned, so my opinion may change, but I'd lean towards: Portamento - The Portal Although I've really been enjoying the Zion 604 VA - Flight 604. It's sort of a scrappy underdog story. It seems it hasn't been reviewed here yet, so perhaps I will, although I'm not much of a reviewer.

Added the location to your thread title.

I killed that thread. At first I did just remove offending content, but the OP defending and trying to justify his opinion and posts was working others into a fury. I thought it prudent to shut the thing down before it grew into something even more nasty. I don't think Psynews should be a place where that kind of content is acceptable. However, the admin & mod teams can always overrule me.

Odd selection, considering many of the most popular tracks are missing from the artists represented. This song doesn't do anything for me musically, but I've always loved the name! "The Flame" is a version that appears on Infinitism. It's the same verision in the video Procyon posted. I think I like it better because it's more aggressive. But I also like "The Flame of Eternal Life". Edit: Redid my votes.

The only reason I know I'm not the only goahead in my city is because I've found some goa records at the local DJ store. Then again, that means someone sold them... There's one DJ I know of who has done a couple goa mixes, but just stuff provided over the internet. At parties he doesn't play goa. The 'scene', such as it exists here, is darkpsy and fullon pretty much.

I think "10 Ragas" was also the first release ever with a TB-303. Came out right after the synth itself did.

Direct neural link! That's the ultimate goal in music technology!

Well if we're going to count DJ sets, I saw Dick Trevor from GNOTR at a party, where he played about 1.5 hours of GNOTR before moving into other stuff.

Infected Mushroom twice, AP once (same as one of the IM shows). AP was less than entertaining.

Nice bass used by Astral Projection

When I was in audio school I fiddled around with a TX-81Z a little. I had no idea how to use the thing, I don't think I'd even heard of FM synthesis at the time, and I was just barely getting into electronic music and synths at the time. Theoretically you'd be able to use Native Instruments' FM8 as well. If you could reconstruct the exact patch. I don't think I could, I can never seem to get exactly what I want out of FM. -
I must have missed notification of a reply. I wasn't trying to "spread bad vibes", I was reacting to your comment that "the price is right". I doubt I would have said anything if I hadn't seen a comment I completely disagreed with. I don't think my comment was any more pointless than yours, and neither really matter. If you or anyone else chooses to take my comment about a price personally, I say godspeed. I'm not going to feel bad, because my opinion doesn't apply to personal feelings, it applies to business matters.
