  1. Neither do I, but I also don't support bad or unethical science when it's being used to further an argument.
  2. When you start talking about certain kinds of speech needing to be banned, you get into very nebulous territory. Some will claim one thing violates the ban, some will claim another, then they fight about it, and it's all a big mess. That's why here in the US the courts tend to side with free speech even if it's irresponsible and dumb. Only when it gets defined as "hate speech" do they side with restriction of speech.
  3. This other article calls foul on the researchers.
  4. It's funny how that stuff always seems to happen when you're altered. I had an experience once, not a paranoid one but just incredibly weird. I was really stoned and watching TV with my roomate, when a commercial for a Chevrolet truck started doing something weird. There was a scene where it was kind of jumping over a little bump in the dirt trail it was on, while the narrator said "...the pickup truck..." And it started looping on that one scene, jumping over the bump again and again while the narrator kept repeating "...the pickup truck..." Both of us saw it, so it wasn't just me, and it probably went on for at least 15 seconds before it turned off. We were so weirded out, and it was just funny that weird stuff like that never happened when I was sober.
  5. It doesn't really sound like such a large number to me. There's a couple main melody/harmony tracks, bass, drums, and a few background noise sounds. Counting all the drums as one, probably not even 10. I like that where a sequence builds and builds with new sounds to a peak.
  6. It doesn't require a login. The words "Cellar door - Remix pack.rar" at the top are a link to download. Click it.
  7. ^ There's no LFO use in "On the Run", the filter is manually played. There's a documentary called "Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon" in which the keyboardist explains creating that part. Pretty cool video actually.
  8. I don't think there's any particular term for it. The "On the Run" synth is just a simple looping sequence, the 'evolving' character of it was created by just playing with the filter cutoff. Often the "twisting, evolving" character in trance loops is due to effects, especially heavy echo. It sounds more complicated and swirly than it actually is when a filter sweep is echoed.

I think it was first shown almost a year ago, and has been coming out in more theaters slowly. It just recently opened fairly widely in the US, including one in my city.
  10. I haven't, but that could be cool for some. When I first started listening to trance (regular trance at first), a lot of popular/famous/classic songs I first heard in DJ mixes at slightly different speeds than originally written in. Sometimes I liked the speed I first heard better.

    So is the film!
  12. I've seen comments like this a lot in the time I've been here. Psynews definitely isn't dedicated to goa trance over other styles, the only reason it's talked about more here is because the users do so. Psynews can't be more diverse if fans of more diverse styles don't speak up.
  13. Well...unless we had moderators who were fluent in all those languages, I think it's unlikely. Besides, Psynews is an international forum. Like it or not, that has so far meant English language. Besides, we're not really looking for numbers, we're looking for an active, lively forum. Psytrance is still an active music scene, we just want to know what people are interested in.
  14. This damned situation pisses me off. Start with one asshole intentionally trying to insult people, add another bunch of assholes who take it too seriously, bring to a simmer, serve with rice. I especially hate that the U.S. embassy gets attacked, as though the U.S. government has anything to do with this one asshole. Should I go attack the Saudi embassy because their restrictions on women offend me? Some people I swear are actively trying to create a religious war with Islam, because they know how touchy they get about Mohammad. "Why can't we all just get along?"
  15. That's a good idea...which we've been talking about already!
  16. Sorry, I couldn't get very close. I think switching to a pulse with width a little over 50% helped, but there's a tonal quality in the sample I just can't recreate. Probably the filter of whatever synth made it. Possibly some kind of effect. What I thought was noise at first is actually distortion/fuzz.
  17. Ah, but that's more like sociology, not politics. I think psychedelics go well with sociological discussions, and as such psychedelic trance might also.
  18. I don't understand French either but I managed to get the file. There's nothing 'improper' about the link. The sound could be made with a variety of synths I'm sure. It's a saw wave with filter modulation with a moderate decay time, a little bit of noise, a slightly longer release time than usual for bass. Maybe I'll try to recreate it tomorrow.
  19. Politics has occasionally mixed well with music - such as '60's anti-war songs, as well as Rage Against the Machine. Lots of punk bands are often political too. But in psytrance - no thank you.
  20. How is the filter? I think I read elsewhere that it's a little weak-sounding. If I had the money, I'd go for a full-fledged Doepfer modular system.
  21. By 'noise' I meant the psychedelic atonal sounds that come up. Not actual noise.
  22. Sounds good to me. Some of the noise sounds may be a little loud, but overall it sounds good.
