Here's some history to put it into context: Originally the mastering engineer was the person who created the master disk from which the (vinyl) records would be produced, from the studio tape recording. It basically consisted of applying the compensation EQ curve (RIAA or its European counterpart), and operate the cutting machine. More responsibility was placed on these people eventually like matching levels from track to track if they were inconsistent coming from the recording studio. Then labels wanted their songs to stand out more on radio compared to the other songs, so they started asking mastering engineers to compress the music so the average level was louder, and EQ it. This also helped signal to noise ratio on the noisy vinyl format. When CD's were introduced it was up to the mastering engineer to create the master disk, including the PQ codes that dictate track sequence, start and end times, etc.

Albums you dislike, but the reviews say otherwise
Veracohr replied to Neogoa's topic in General Psytrance
Most Filteria; it has no space, just a constant barrage. Mindsphere - Patience for Heaven. Somehow it has all the right elements but fails to combine them into something interesting. -
I don't think it's very complex. Most of it tends to stay in one key for a whole song, and tends not to even move around in that one key much. To me, lots of notes in a melody don't make music complex, that's just scales. The production can be complex with all the layers.

If you're looking for a venue and hope members will help, probably the General Psytrance forum.

Sure, if they're imagining Motley Crue in the 80's. I can't believe anyone would think goa producers have lives like that.
-
But why? Why I ask you, WHY??? Shitty dynamics, shitty frequency response, wow and flutter...what on earth is there to recommend it?

Comfortably Numb But of course.

I haven't paid attention to the controversy but I know the story. I agree that the zoo and the parents are responsible for protecting a child, but if something like that happens because children will do fucking anything they can, the priority should be the life of the child. This is a subject I disagree with my girlfriend about. She's really into animal rights, and generally hates humans, and honestly feels an animal's life should take precedence over a human's. I'm concerned about animal cruelty too but I can't put the life of an animal ahead of a human.

What about an instrumental non-electronic piece of music? On another topic: Another forum I frequent is devoted to electronics, designing circuits and such. Often people there use the word 'transistor' to refer to only BJT's, but not FET's, even though the T in both acronyms stands for Transistor! Also every once in a while someone will refer to a transformer as a 'trafo', and then I want to punch a wall. But then I assume they're new to the field and saw that stupid abbreviation on some stupid website and then I can relax in my feeling of superiority.
-
I feel the opposite: I get irrationally angry every time I see people use the word "track" instead of "song". To me a song is a piece of music regardless of whether it has words.

I used to have commercial cassettes, I taped radio on cassettes, and my first multi-track recordings were on a cassette-based recorder. I don't miss them the least or have any nostalgia. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

While I agree with you 100%, why are you posting this here instead of telling the authors? My opinion is to let the people who are duped by this shit have their illusions. They apparently have money to burn and not enough to occupy their time so let them contribute to the economy by buying stupid shit.

Dimension 5 & Chi-A.D. I like 100%of what I've heard. Haven't heard Second Phaze or the last two Chi-A.D. Albums. Portamento, which is easy because there's only the one album and it's all great!

Using physical objects to colour sound

This is awesome! -
A thought just occurred to me that I'd to read specifically some first contact science fiction. As in: human beings meeting an alien race for the first time. Not alien invasion, but a meeting of a more congenial nature. I'm not sure why I suddenly want such a specific story, but does anyone have a suggestion?

Eating. Drinking. Unfortunately smelling the disgusting perfume of some nearby people. I spent all day trying to get a TI microcontroller IDE up and running and start figuring out how to use it. My brain hurts.

Try Portamento's album The Portal.

One of my favorite books! I just started Ender in Exile by Orson Scott Card. It takes place between the first two Ender books. Pretty good so far, unlike the prequel books which are mostly written by some other dude from Card's ideas.

I don't skip through songs ever. I like taking the journey as the artist intended. I usually don't even skip from one song to another, I tend to listen to whole albums.
-
Hmmm....we skipped 2015!

How old were you when you started listening to goa/psytrance?
Veracohr replied to XoArK's topic in General Psytrance
About 25 I think. I don't remember exactly when I got into it. -
The Witch Fucking incredible! Except I had a really hard time understanding the accents. It takes place in early America, so I suppose they were supposed to be more or less English accents, but I had a much harder time understanding them than English movies I watch. Still, great movie!

Top 3 most psychedic goa albums in your opinion?
Veracohr replied to MrAnarchy's topic in General Psytrance
I'd have to agree, although that doesn't mean I don't also like melodic goa. For me (today anyway): Hallucinogen - Twisted Etnica - Live in Athens 1996 Dimension 5 - Transdimensional
