  1. I gotta get that custom member title.
  2. I just don't see how genetics would have any part in it, unless there were some ethnic group that had a physically different range of hearing than other people, and passed on genetically, and whose music made use of those frequencies. Not that I know much about genetics.

I don't disagree with your points but they don't address what I said: gold has no significant inherent value. Why should rarity affect value unless the rare thing is of immense practical value? My thoughts on gold were less about economics and more about people's concept of an object's worth. I think the monetary value of gold is way above it's practical value in manufacturing, and that doesn't make sense to me.
  4. I'd have to disagree. Enjoyment of music is socially influenced in my mind, not genetically influenced.

On the subject of gold: I don't get that either. People see gold as a standard hard currency, and here in the US there has long been criticism over the government's abandonment of the "gold standard" as the physical reality that dollars represent. But what good is gold? Historically it's been a currency because it's pretty and shiny and people like pretty shiny things. But I'd like to think society is evolving away from a concept of value that is based on "ooh pretty!", and toward a concept of practical value. Gold has little practical value. It's too rare and soft to be used in large quantities for most applications of metals. It's best practical value is as an electrical conductor, which is not as good as copper or silver but is less susceptible to oxidation. But there's nothing about gold that makes it inherently more valuable than any other resource we use. I'd say water has more inherent value.

^ The subject at hand is just debt. Nothing else. It's a staggering amount of money.
  7. I'd say they're pretty much equivalent. Greater sensitivity at high frequencies means you can hear them better, which means your frequency range is greater.

Economics lost all rationality when people moved away from buying and selling just goods and services, and started buying and selling money.
  10. All right, I just now discovered one must have 3000 posts to have a custom member title. I've been here 5 years and I have only half that! Commence spamming: now!

  12. Thanks for explaining Jon. I thought that might be what you meant but I wasn't sure. I like the idea.
  13. What would differentiate your idea from what we currently have? The "General Psytrance" forum is pretty much the place to discuss all artists, labels, styles, and of course we have the Reviews section.

    M-Disc

I dunno, did anyone say when CD's were introduced that they had a limited lifespan? I dimly recall it being unexpected for most people. Maybe the people who made the M-disc haven't forseen something.

    M-Disc

The quote he posted said $7 per disc, which is relatively expensive but still less than DVD-R's were when they were released.
